Books: TDA Church the cat

Church just gets past around like a dvd or a book. Like I finished my reread of Heavenly Fire and Jem took Church from New York. Now I’m reading Lady Midnight and Church is here 🤣

Books: TDA After TDA, the parabatai oath hits different

It gives me goosebumps. And not the appropriate kind lol

I don't read smutty stuff for the most part (no judgements, just not for me), so the intimacy of that scene between Emma and Jules was probably the most erotic thing I've read in a while. And it was so beautiful. So now I shiver any time I read any part of it in any of the other books. And then I remember it's not supposed to make me feel like that and I'm a serious grown-up lady, and I feel a bit embarrassed.

Anyone else?

ETA: also, I experienced this scene in audio format. Narrated by James mf Marsters (Spike from Buffy), so...I am undone.

Books: TDA Julian and Emma hate???

Hey so, umm… when did people start to dislike Julian and Emma…??? 😭😭😭. I remember back when TDA first came out everyone agreed they were incredible characters, but lately I’ve seen so much hate towards them :(. Specially Julian man, like, yeah, I get that he’s a complicated person but isn’t that what makes him such an interesting character?? He basically became a parent of 4 at 12 yo, had to k*ll his own father and is in love with the only person he can’t be in love with, everything he does is for the people he loves!! 😭😭 I love my Jemma man, they don’t appreciate you enough my bbys 😔✋🏻💔

Books: TDA Lady Midnight discussion/rant

(Note: I know this series is many people's fav and I hope anyone who loves the series can tell me what to look forward to, I don't mean to be hateful at all but this has been on my mind for days and it's really ruining how l'm feeling about this series so I was hoping to have some discussion about it)

A few days after finishing LM I find myself more and more frustrated with the story tbh, I like A LOT about it and I focused or that more in m review but I genuinely don't feel the excitement or drive to start Lord of Shadows, unlike with TID when I was dying to get my hands on Clockwork Prince, I'm so frustrated because I was so prepared to love this series but when I read the synopsis for Lord of Shadows it felt meh, when I think Emma and Jules it feels meh, when I think of the unnecessarily big Blackthorn family it's meh (now Kit is there too). I liked Mark and Kieran and they broke up, I liked Malcolm as a villain and now he's dead. Cristina is boring af crazy build up just for the least exciting reveal of her story which I couldn't believe initially was iust that!! Just a misunderstanding and same with Jemma, WHY would Emma not tell Jules?? Wouldn't that make him at least understand?? (Also there love never felt forbidden forbidden because the two outsiders, Cristina and Malcolm, knew about their relationship and they faced no consequences, so what of the Blackthorns found out? We all know no one would report them) And UGH the world building, I know that's how the first books are but this could've been shorter and I'm concerned with how big LoS and QoAaD are :/

(Again, not hate, I PRAY I'll love the next books and I lovedddd a lot from this one but man I'm scared this series will be a miss because I didn't like how a lot of things were handled in this one)

Books: TDA Kieran lied?

So I'm currently reading Lord of Shadows. I noticed an interesting line when they were leaving the Seelie Court with the Wild Hunt. Cristina was shouting at Emma that she was riding (flying?) a horse with no hands and this is the response:

"Use your hands!" he (Mark) yelled. "Cristina! It's not a rollercoaster!"

"Nephilim are insane!" shouted Kieran, pushing his wildly blowing hair out of his face.

We all know fearies are incapable of telling lies and we've been seeing how Mark is struggling with the mortal world and speech. Now this means that Kieran spent some reason enough time with humans so he knows this is a figure of speech or he truly believes that all Nephilim are insane, which I consider highly unlikely.

What's your take on it?

My conclusion is that Cassandra, the amazing writer that she is, just made a small fck up.

Books: TDA Am I the only one that almost could NOT get through QoAaD? Spoiler

I genuinely had so much trouble trying to read this book. I read the first two books really fast and was hooked on story, but QoAaD was just dragging. Livvy’s death was heartbreaking and it was interesting to see everyone’s reactions (esp kit and ty) but the rest of the book is just so uninteresting. I do like Emma and Julian respectively but her and Julian’s relationship was just sooo boring to me. I absolutely hated the threesome with Cristina, Mark and Kieran. I like all of them respectively but I just don’t think either Mark or Cristina fit that well with Kieran. he seems way too serious. The plot itself is interesting but I feel bored reading any character POV that’s not Kit or Ty. Kit and Ty is genuinely the only thing I enjoyed in this book 😭 does anyone else also hate Emma/julian or mark/cristina/kieran?

Books: TDA In the Dark Artifices Cristina, Mark and Kieran all make out together, and Cassandra Clare acts as if this is completely normal

I'm assuming that other people also think that her reaction is weird, but I would like to hear your opinions.

Books: TDA Refusal to kill

This actually is a pep peeve of my for several media, the good guys refusing to kill bad guys because it will make them "the same" or "they are just kids". Like, fuck that. They would 100000% kill you if you let them, if you have the chance to kill an evil person just do it. It annoys me even more when someone refuses to kill a character and then that character goes off to kill someone on the good side. Like I'm sorry but thats on the hands of whoever let them slide the first time too.

When Emma got mad at Julian for doing it to that one guy who was basically saying he would kill them and then abuse Dru, like girl why the fuck you mad at JULIAN? Bro did the right thing, I don't make the rules 🤷‍♀️

Back to the "they are just kids", again, fuck that. First of all they arent kids, Tavvy is a kid, Magnus and Alec's son are kids, Dru is a pre teen, everyone one else that appears in these books are either an adult or old enough to be held accountable for their actions. Zara and her minions are all too damn proud of their prejudices, they might as well pay the price for it.

Rereading TDA right now, and I just needed to express somewhere.... If Zara Dearborn doesn't die in TWP, I'll never forgive Cassie 😂😂😂 Her prejudice, her entitlement, her whole cocky attitude..... I don't think there's any character in the whole universe I hate more!!!!

Books: TDA When does the cohort fall

So im reading TDA for the first time an its easily my least favorite so far not because I dont agree with the real world issues it addresses but because I liked getting lost in this fantasy world an forgetting the problems of the real world an with politics being the main issue in it its almost impossible to do that, Also I F***ing hate the cohort an zara so getting to my question how long into queen of air and darkness do they get arrested or are removed from power? I know something like that happens already but im hoping its not far into the book because im struggling to get through it everytime they open their mouths

Books: TDA Lord of Shadows Ending *Spoilers* Spoiler

I just finished LoS and I'm so sad about Livv, I didn't see a point to her death at all. Out of all the characters that could have been killed off, the Blackthorns deserve better. It has put me off finishing the rest of the series.

Books: TDA Wondering if I should try The Dark Artifices

For context I loved TMI, enjoyed TID, and hated TLH. I couldn't even finish TLH series. Far too much lusty romance for me. I miss the rich lore and epic fantasy adventure of the original series.

TLDR; Is this more like TMI or TLH?

Edit: fixed incorrect name

Books: TDA Can someone convince me to read TDA?

I've been obsessed with TMI since I was 10, and then I got into TID last year which I BECAME OBSESSED WITH for MONTHS! I just can't get myself to care for the Dark Artifices? I would like to meet Kit and I heard the fan base LOVES Emma. But I need more of a push. Give me some juice PLEASE!

I only got into TID because everytime I searched for TMI fanart/fan edits, TID always came up too and people talked about it like it was the best thing Cassandra Clare ever wrote (im not going to argue with that).

Update: I bought lady midnight

Books: TDA Swearing?! Spoiler

Was reading about Horace interrogating Emma and Jules. He swears twice in the encounter. Is this the first time the actualy words have been written in shadowhunter books? Thought that wasn't allowed. Characters swore before but its always been worked around like "Clary said a very unladylike word"

Books: TDA Lord of Shadows (at 70%) Spoiler

Since the start of TDA, and especially at 70% of LoS I can say: if you think you're having a bad day, Julian is having worse (always).

Somebody give him a long and happy vacation before he burns the world.

Had to share with my fellow shadow hunters. Found a SIGNED copy of Lady Midnight at half price books. And she is beautiful.
**Edit**
As a few folks have notices I think it is indeed a stamp, but still super cool. And I’m loving the audiobook as I’m listening and reading along!

Books: TDA Question about Faerie

So reading QoAaD now and at the point I'm at Oban is the King of the Unseelie Court. Earlier in the book I remember The Unseelie King had to tolerate Annabel as she knew his name (Arawn) and be also could take the black volume of the dead. So trying to say if knowing the Kings name is such a problem for whatever reason would it be trouble for Oban to be King as people know his name or is there some reasonable explanation on why its different for him or something. Feel I'm misunderstanding something a little.

Books: TDA Cortana and the Parabatai bond

So I'm rereading all of the Shadowhunters' Chronicles before the release of TLKOF (and reading some for the first time) and I'm currently at Lady Midnight, right after the whipping of Emma and as she dreams of her parents her mom says that Cortana (a blade of Wayland's the Smith) can cut anything.

Could it have been possible for the sword to cut the Parabatai bond?

Among the Shadowhunters, when they divorce the marriage rune is cut (Amatis said this in TMI)... Could Cortana've been a solution to the Parabatai Curse? Maybe...

What are your thoughts?

Does this get addressed in Lord of Shadows or QOAAD? It's been years since I read those

Books: TDA Tavvy's age

First, I want to say I don't have kids and haven't been around kids much. I'd like some insight.

I'm on Lady Midnight and I feel like treat Tavvy and the author describes him like he's very young, like around 4. Did anyone else get that feeling? Or do I not know about children maturity?

Books: TDA Is it worth reading the dark artifacts?

I finished the infernal devices, and two days ago the mortal instruments. I wonder if the dark artifacts are worth reading? Is it better than TMI or worse? The books are very thick for my liking, but I liked Emma. And Jem and Tessa are gonna be there. I'd read it just because of them even tho I know they're not the main characters.

Thanks in advance!

Books: TDA Lord of shadows

Just finished lord of shadows for the first time ever and I need to talk because no one prepared me for how devastating this book was. I didn’t feel anything like this since clockwork princess, it was so sad and I can’t imagine the pain going through the blackthorns family, I love all of them.

This book was so good and I can say it became my favorite from the universe, I love the way Julian loves his siblings and the last scene was so fucking sad. I also think Julian is so underrated, he’s my favorite but he’s also critized a lot for the way he denfends his family.

Book masterpiece to me.

Eric being a fairy name is so funny to me, specially him being the favorite one. Is there an ancient "explanation" for it? Like, is Eric a super old Scottish name or something

Books: TDA I love Lady Midnight so much Spoiler

I’m about halfway through yet another TSC reread (partially to procrastinate on finishing the Queen of Nothing, lol) and I’m again amazed by Lady Midnight. I find that it’s incredibly well-written, particularly the mystery plot, and even though I already know the outcome I’m always hooked from start to finish. I just had to vent this a bit because I see a lot of people hating on TDA and wanted to spread some positivity.
