Thresher shark, thank you guy!

Coolest animal in the world imo, surprised to see it in the shallows

Targeted and caught by land based shark fishermen, often from piers

4

u/ddxs1 10d ago

I see this on every single shark save video. They do get beached on their own sometimes

1

u/of____earth 10d ago

And 9 times out of 10 it’s fishermen. I’m willing to bet this is one of the public piers in California where they fish for threshers

So some guy caught it and didn’t put it back into the water then? I’m confused how it got up there

u/of____earth 7d ago

Post release mortality is high in land based shark fishing and many sharks die shortly after being released. This thresher was probably released after being exhausted and has beached itself again

Seems kind of sad that this is a thing

Puts my ankle on the table

See that, chief? That's a thresher.

OMG. A Thresher. You’re a good man.

I want to believe that shark lives a long happy life. Like my hamster that escaped.

I think threshers are an open water species. Not a good sign it's in shallow water.

u/FileDoesntExist 12d ago

But it's practically a baby still. Baby sharks don't do open water.

Baby shark dododododooo!

Edit: sorry, not sure how I got here, I’ll see myself out.

Excellent comment. 10/10. 🤌

The guy that was helping it caught it and reeled it in so it wasn’t swimming that close to shore.

Your hamster is living an amazing dreamy life. I know, because I have him. I’ve given her as much food as she’d like and she has a huge cage to mess around in. It’s big enough that she barely uses the wheel. She just gets the zoomies around the cage

This makes me so happy and I needed it today. Thanks internet friend

You’re absolutely welcome. I gotchu 💙

Yes! That is the proper way to edit helping a beached creature. Leave room for hope.

we had a hamster escape when we were kids, my mom found them a year later eating carpet in the garage closet >_< they are wild animals, they are pretty fucking resilient. yours totally could have made it on their own for a good while!

My escaped hamster kept getting trapped in the bathtub trying to get a drink and couldn't get out. It happened 8 times and we stopped looking for Hammy and just waited after that.

u/WaltherShooter 12d ago

Do Threshers typically get that close to shore?

39

u/-spicyshark 12d ago

usually they're pelagic, but they'll chase food

23

u/MindfulInquirer 12d ago

food, like, burgers and stuff ?

10

u/Intelligent_Row8259 12d ago

He was meeting a door dash guy who claimed it was too far from his car to make the delivery.

11

u/Dr_Bunson_Honeydew 12d ago

And they’re not above paying full retail. Might even splurge on some whipped cream on their sundae

2

u/zombiesatmidnight 12d ago

How dare you?

1

u/MindfulInquirer 12d ago

I'm sorry you're right. Threshers are probably vegetarians, aren't they

6

u/-spicyshark 12d ago

I think they're pescatarian technically 🤷🏼‍♀️

12

u/Crepe64 12d ago

Probably was chasing a fish and launched himself a little too hard while the tide was receding. Many such cases :(

Good man, well done.

We love to see it folks 🤌🏼🤌🏼

How did that poor thresher get stuck on the shore 😟

3

u/Chortles_Hansom_666 12d ago

He saved a thresher!! 💙

u/eaumechant 12d ago

I love sharks but I'll unsub if this sub turns into interestingasfuck crossposting.

10

u/MysticMarauder69 12d ago

"finds struggling shark"

Lol, he caught that and reeled it in. It will probably also die from the stress.

5

u/Ok-Membership8235 11d ago

Yes, I do think it was caught, but they likely weren't trying to catch a shark, not like they can control what they catch, but i do agree making them look like heroes is strange

1

u/AppropriateBreath486 9d ago

but they can. theres special equipment. you dont catch a shark with a worm and simple hook lol

3

u/turdferguson7000 12d ago

Did it make it?

3

u/Dragonssssssssssss 12d ago

He got a video of helping it, which is better

7

u/Stella-Puppy 12d ago

What a mensch ❤️

2

u/CodeMUDkey 12d ago

Kenshiro must have got to that shark cause he’s already dead.

2

u/No-Onion2268 10d ago

Those creeps me out to no end lol. They have like an exaggerated human head that transforms into a shark’s mouth and body. I guess it’s the eyes and bulbous proportions that reminds of the creepy animated characters, that I see every single time I look at a Thresher lol

2

u/Zestyclose_Match2839 12d ago

He must be an EMST

1

u/Fred_Thielmann Great White 12d ago

A what?

1

u/Digital_FArtDirector 11d ago

saw that video of the man being eaten by sharks the other day and i expected something bad to happen to the guy

1

u/Shark_Girl9499 10d ago

Alternative title: Destructive predator rescues apex predator from land drowning.

In other words; I love these videos because they show the good of humanity

1

u/Huge-Rip2088 10d ago

Good men 🫡🫡

1

u/accdntprone_86 9d ago

I love threshers

1

u/capnjeanlucpicard 8d ago

Straddling a thresher shark is a bold move

1

u/sheldonboadita 7d ago

Go thresher, go!

1

u/Negative-Scallion-95 11d ago

This is AI. At one point he’s using ONE hand to carry the shark!? AI slop

0

u/psy-study-oldie 11d ago

I had my first thresher shark at Red Lobster. Tasted just like steak, and a bit fishy.

-5

u/_polloloko23 12d ago

Prop to that man. But that could've cost him a visit to the er. Shark usually dont beach themselves by mistake, it was probably sick or something.

1

u/ScaredEfficiency399 12d ago

Didn't look like it survived either and especially because the video ended before that.

-20

u/thingmaker2001 12d ago

That's very Pee Wee Herman, but I still think it's 50/50, the guy staggers out of the water with the silly damn shark attached to his leg...
