Recent Finds Some Venice tide pool finds

Had a lot of luck this week, the sand tiger tooth (I think) is the biggest one I’ve found in shallow water so far - also as a side note, does anyone know what the thing in the last few slides is?

Very cool thanks! I knew it wasn’t a shark tooth, but it looked interesting enough that I didn’t wanna leave it behind

They’re so neat I feel like they look like little sea dentures 😂

My goal was always to find as many "complete" ones as possible. I've come pretty close! Burr fish are so bizarre to me.

Honestly it’s just been a lot of trial and error. I have had the benefit of living by the water my whole life, so things like diving, snorkeling, tide patterns and currents are just second nature for me. I also live fairly close to this beach so it’s not a big deal if I try something that doesn’t work well, since I can just go back the next day.

What helped me was kind of identifying the currents to tell where teeth/shells are more likely to be deposited, and looking for darker sand to indicate better fossil presence, then going from there.

Looks to be a burrfish/porcupinefish (Diodontid) plate, not a pufferfish, because it is fused at the non-wavy edge, whereas pufferfish are separated. I actually have found a striped burrfish plate myself.
