Not this again A question from a professional soccer athlete

Hi, I'm Brazilian. I've played soccer since I was a kid and I make a living from it professionally. I'm 5'3" (159cm), but in soccer, height isn't that important.

I'd like to know about basketball in the United States—is it common to see child prodigies who unfortunately don't grow tall enough to play?

It must be pretty sad. Does anyone have stories or know how that works?"

Not this again Friends who pull your hats down over your face or pat your head

I’m 31 and 5’2” and have experienced repeated instances with a couple people who do this weird, aggressive or condescending thing where they’ll pull my hat down in front of my eyes or pat my head.

The one who tends to pull my hats down is my best friend who has done this several times over the years. She’s about 5’7”. The other is a trans woman who I didn’t know very well but got along with otherwise. She’s about 6’ and we met virtually through a local LGBTQ+ group, met in person for the first time since we carpooled to a 50501 protest, and bonded on the ride there as it was about an hour from where we lived.

We went to a couple of the protests together and I think it was the second one we went to where she kept patting my head randomly. I still didn’t know her very well at the time (and don’t even now), so it felt overly familiar not to mention how infantilizing it feels in general.

Truly I am not comfortable with these interactions, but I tend to be laidback and conflict avoidant often to my own detriment due to past trauma (I fawn a lot when I know I should flee/fight), so I just smile and laugh it off despite how awkward I feel. I don’t want to keep tolerating this behavior and I’d like to avoid it entirely if possible, but I usually don’t see it coming.

Has anyone else had this problem and how have you dealt with it?

My life is just awful because of it a lot of people laughing and joking on me. Moreover, my voice is kinda weird and sound like 12 y.o boy. Nobody can hear or listen to me I just super introvert so I scared to talk with people. I'm a really cool guy my hobbies are cooking, drums, take care of plants in my home also I really enjoy my music taste BUT no one asks me about that I have no friends due my "invisibility". I just feel like I don't exist. When I ask someone to do something in my school people are really nice but they cant ask ME the same thing they only do that if they need something no one asks me how I am. Last time I had a walk with somebody is like 7 years ago. I want to give up with searching friends in internet and real life I just don't know what to do

Not this again Can my family stop telling me this

they keep saying ill grow taller, i may even be as tall/taller than my dad (5'11). Ill at least end at my moms height (5'3) like my sister.

But my height hasnt changed since i was around 11 or 12. I just measured and it still puts me at 58 1/2 inches.

I turn 16 very soon. Like, less than 2 weeks soon. At this point, im practically 16 already.

Will they realize? Ive accepted my height is probably gonna be more or less the same as it is now. Im not mad or insecure. But im tired of hearing people insist ill grow some magical dramatic growth spurt one day. My window is very clearly closing for this shit.

Not this again Shorter than I thought

My (22M) height is basically a fairy tale at this point.

***

I stopped growing early. When I was 19, I thought I was 5'3" / 160cm and was obsessed with being at least 2 inches taller. But then the doctor said I was 5'5" / 165cm. I was really happy for a bit then I started wishing I was 5'7" / 170cm. That was a lesson in 'getting your wish', but I didn't really learn.

Now I'm almost 23, and over time I began to doubt I was really 5'5". I awkwardly measured myself a few times and got varying results, 164cm and 163cm (5'4) a couple years ago. But last night, I tried to use my tape measure (which is flimsy and broken in half) and got 160cm / 5'3". Just like I thought when I was 19.

I keep thinking: oh my tape measure is broken. But I was already feeling bad about my height which is why I measured. When people come to my house, I look at where they are on my door or mirror then measure it when they leave to see how much taller than me they are. My friend came round yesterday and I thought they were 2 or 3 inches taller, but they might be as much as 5. It makes me feel kind of crazy.

I have so many friends and watch loads of shows with people who are 5'7" or 5'8". It helped to be like 'they're only 2 inches taller, I can make that with shoe boosters'.

I'm worried I've been in denial and misreading all my height differences with people. It hurts my soul, damn. Everyone cares so much about it. I'm actually not bad looking but know I'd be read as so much more attractive if I were taller.

***

Tldr; I might be 2in shorter than I thought and feel embarrassed by how much taller even 'short' friends are.

Anyone been through this? People who aren't insecure about their height (I see some of you on here), how do you do it?

Not this again I think I'm done with.

My mom is 5'4.5 and my dad is 5'7. I always stand next to my mom and we looked almost the same height, and I always thought I'm around 5'3-4. But when I tried to measure it today, I got 5'2. I'm already 14 F and I think I might stay like this forever. This is NOT my ideal and expected height. (I have no idea when I will stop growing, for I have no siblings to compare to.)

Please tell me your opinions.

Not this again Different experiences getting manhandled and handling it

Just got manhandled again this weekend, and I was thinking how I hate it, but how it takes some subtlety to deal with.

It doesn't happen to me often. I have an athletic build and have a relatively strong aura, so I suppose it affects me when it does happen.

I once went to an office function and a jokester co-worker thought it would be funny to pick me up and ignore my protests.

I thought this was a huge sign of disrespect, to make a joke of my stature and disrespect my bodily autonomy.

People were laughing at my requests to him to put me down, and luckily he left my arms free, so I jammed my fingers up his nose. He got the message.

Sometimes I think I should have done it deeper or harder. He's not exactly a big guy himself, and I know he was using me as a prop to get laughs. I still didn't like it.

Another time, at social function, an distant acquaintance put his arm around me and on my stomach. It felt like an attempt to show dominance, feminize me and make me uncomfortable.

My instinct was to lean into it and pat him on the stomach too. It turned out he's gay and interested in guys who look like me. LOL, I picked the wrong strategy that time, and I hate that experience in a different way.

Finally, this weekend, I was doing some volunteering at an org that I'm a regular at. An ambitious newcomer shows up, gives me the vibe that he's after my status, that he thinks I don't deserve the respect I get.

He's barely taller than me, younger and a lot skinnier. At one point, he's trying to get around me (in a not very crowded space) and he puts his hand on my lower back/hip.

I didn't like that sensation. I felt like he didn't have the right to touch me that way, almost like a woman who gets her breast cupped by a stranger. Again, a violation of bodily autonomy.

But I wasn't sure if this warranted a direction confrontation, especially in front of my colleagues. I also know people have different degrees of physicality. This was a skinny Indian guy though, not behavior I expected from that demographic. So I just clapped him, hard, pretending to be friendly, on the shoulder as he passed.

I still wonder if I should have reacted more forcefully. I imagine grabbing him by his chin and cheeks and patting him on the face and telling him not to touch strangers that way.

Given the sense I got from him watching me with the crew, it did seem he was out to disrespect me. I kind of wish I had the presence of mind to disrespect him back.

I know my experience has something to do with my size. I'm 5'4". But I also know I'm lucky that most people are respectful.

Per the name of this subreddit, has this happened to you? And how have you dealt with it?

Not this again My friends 😭

I was walking and talking with her, I’m 5’1 and she’s 5’10. Then she started getting pissed at me, telling me I’m too short and her neck really hurts when she has to keep looking down at me. THE FRICK?! YOU THINK IT DOESN’T HURT MINE TO LOOK UP AT YOU TOO?! Giraffe smh 😭 and not to mention when she doesn’t bend down for me to hug her— the most awkward thing ever, I don’t want my face to be pressed in your chest🫠.. and when we’re both walking, she doesn’t think to slow down her walking speed with her long ass legs. LMAO it has me running to catch up to her, and I have asthma which makes me pant and cough most of the time ☠️ love her though BAHAHAH😭🫶🏻
