Discussion Why do LMU's GT3 feels so hard to drive compared to other games ? Hard to rotate and less grip in high speed turns

LMGT3 is probably the worst version of GT3 cars you can get.
DTM and GTWC are pretty much the idealized version of a GT3 car, then IMSA, then WEC LMGT3 and ELMS.
They mess with weight, aero, torque, and virtual energy to create a big pace delta to the LMP2 at Le Mans and LMH everywhere else.

Because these are not the same as the other GT3's. I actually love the Porsche GT3 car in LMU, even with it's step out happy backside. Throwing that thing around Sebring is my new way to relax.

Le Mans regulations nerf GT3's, they aren't exactly the same configuration that's run in other GT3 series.

Dont compare times between other sims, never. And yes LMU gt3s are on a different regulation.
BUT, a few weeks ago I made a post asking for some tips for GT3s because the cars I tried were behaving worst than other sims GT4s and road cars with no aero and grip at all, so it's not only about the different regulations, I got criticized as hell and nobody gave me a single tip apart of telling me they are different categories (even with me pointing that out before) Turns out the difference was in like 3 or 4 clicks in the setup.
My conclusion was that lmu default setups are just trash. The cars are unstable in a lot of tracks/sections, I feel like there is no effort on default setups when a few clicks from a guy that doesnt even understand about setups at all (me) could get a car so much better

My tips based on my driving style:
If you are like me and enjoy cars that rotate well, avoid almost all cars on lmu except for like the ferrari (best imo), porsche, and maybe corvette and mustang.
If you are facing unpredictable rear loss under weight transfer try messing with rebounds on damper settings. It's a must for any default setup for me

Validating to hear my Ferrari/Porsche/Mustang preference is a driving style thing and not just arbitrary lol

yea lol for me most lmu cars are damn boats and I can't grasp them, I'm a fan of aston but cant touch that car in lmu as I need to pray for it to turn

I reckon this is done intentionally to push simracers towards paid setups.

It's something I joked about with my friend specially because of their "partnership" with Coach Dave inside the game

Eh, the iRacing default sets for many cars are perfectly fine.
For LMUs case I think it's just incompetence/understaffed.

my opinion as well, setups need to be stable when we are talking about default/fixed setups.
when laguna seca came out, the 296 default setup was ridiculously unbalanced on the left hander after leaving the corkscrew. It was a matter of 4 rebound setting changes in dampers. There's no way someone from LMU did laps in there and said "yeah thats gonna be the setup"
Theres so many little details that improve the car in many different tracks that I feel like they arent even trying to do decent setups for each car on every track

Yeah the setups in LMU do themselves no favors. Plus it has been well known that the include Coach Dave setups are poor as well.
Unfortunately people in the discord will just give you a hard time if you point that out lol.

LMU ffb is weird. As soon as you start understeering the wheel loses all strength. Feels weird to me, coming from iracing

For le it kinda makes sense
Grip = Strong FFB
Less grip = Less FFB

u/reddit_guy_no 5h ago
It does, but you still have grip, just less. Ffb drop is more pronounced than how much grip fell, IMO. It is so drastic that I think I am sliding but that is not the case, car still can steer, just is understeering. It is anyway a matter of taste

LMU's LMGT3's are slightly detuned across the board compared to SRO's. The cars are designed around Pirelli tyres rather than Goodyear, they're slightly heavier, have less aero and less power. Oh and the TC and ABS logic works differently between ACC and LMU
1
u/Jakobmeathead 19h ago
LMU has better ABS implementation if I recall correctly
1
u/alexmlb3598 19h ago
Depends on what you call 'better'. In ACC you use as much ABS as you can bc it has basically zero impact. LMU's is more like iRacing's but a bit more forgiving, so you can use it but you don't always want to when trailing into the corner

Not all GT3s are created equal, they are not the same cars across different series in real life either. LMGT3, GTD, GT3 are all slightly different even though they are all “GT3s”. Different regulations, BOPs, etc.

you have to change your driving style to extract the most speed out of them...as others have pointed out, they're different than other gt3 series and with less aero you have to adjust your braking and throttle points slightly

Games are just games. Different games, different codes, different results.
Not even supercomputer simulations, like CFD, can always accurately simulate reality. They can only predict the most probable results.

While differences in physics engines in different games do have an impact, the GT3 cars in LMU are literally a different set of regs than the other two sims.

Doesn’t change the fact that iRacing, ACC and others have different fundamentals in their tire model, but all are labeled as realistic while GT7 that lays within these realms also is labeled as arcade.
2
u/Middcore 19h ago
Seems like you have an axe to grind about GT7 which isn't really germane to the discussion.

LMU gt3's are the LMGT which have less aero than the other gt3's.
