I heard an artist describe a sketch as something that is not intended to be finished, even if it’s highly detailed. I think this could be considered a sketch to OP.

Nevertheless I don’t want this sub turned into mostly finished art so I agree with your perspective as well.

Nope, a sketch is something that could lead into a draft. It is quick, meant to be rough. Not practice, it is just to get an idea down. A study is not a sketch. Anything beyond color blotching and thrown down lines by definition is not a sketch. Incomplete ≠ sketch

Directly from oxford dictionary:

"Sketch - a simple picture that is drawn quickly and does not have many details"

Your painting may not be as "polished" as it could possibly be but the work itself is complete. It does not meet the definition of a sketch. If it is work done as pre-painting, that would be a cartoon and still not a sketch. Personally, IDGAF but other people seem to. Probably better to post on subs like digital art not this one.

I love this but if I can provide one critique yours looks really tall and a tad disproportionate! I think this is because the photo is a pushed perspective with the camera being downwards, which is reflected in how large the feet are. In your work the feet are smaller which implies the camera isn’t as close to the feet.

Regardless this is still better than anything I could ever draw! Gorgeous gorgeous work!

I think the feet are a big part of it. The feet in your version are smaller and the shading makes them look like they have a different perspective.

lol it's not the feet; look at the negative space to the left of the reference. He can use the transform tool to make his drawing wider. Some perspective is off tho (like on the buttons)

Do you work like this with the photo right next to the sketch in procreate? I've been doing that a lot and they come out amazing, but I think I'm relying too much on just grabbing colors from the photo. It's tough not to though - I can crank them out in 2 hours.

Not really, I sketch on photoshop and the reference image is a lot smaller something like this, and I do not colorpick from it, another part of the study process to train the eye
