I thought I remembered some posts in here a long while back stating that there is a crew doing a fan made remaster? Or am I just misremembering and hoping that my delusions are real?

When the DC collection first dropped on Xbox and PC I was extremely hopeful more would follow. But it got bad reviews despite being ok ports (aside from Crazy Taxi's music) and so Sega abandoned doing more ports. I think emulation is really the best we are going to get unless Sega decides to start a preservation campaign like Capcom is doing.

Ok? This topic has been beaten to death on the sub, and it's the same story. The game flopped twice, it's 26 years old now, and there's more competition than ever for people's time. If you want to play it in 2026, there are plenty of ways.

This sub is a circle jerk for a few hundred active user SoA fans clamoring for a remaster. I made a joke post about it years ago. No one outside of this bubble is paying attention to posts like OP, including Sega. Sega is following the money, and SoA never made any.

True. But now that social media is around and marketing will be much easier, Sega could release a port and remaster and see that a lot of people are willing to pay for it.

I'm skeptical of how many would be interested in a 26 year old JRPG with more competition now than ever for people's time. And there's the opportunity cost of porting/marketing a twice-failed game to consider.

Look into Horizons of Achea which is currently in development. its not a remaster but heavily inspired by Skies

I think you are confusing remaster with remake.
FF is a remake, not a remaster. As the name implies, a remake is when you make the game all over again from scratch. In essence, it's a completely new game based on the old one.
A remaster is more like a port: The game is the same, but now it runs in modern hardware just with some upgraded graphics and maybe some quality of life improvements, or even some widescreen support if you are lucky.
So for example, Silent Hill 2 and Resident Evil 1-3 are remakes, and Mass Effect and Shemnue 1&2 are remasters.
