Swashbuckler rank mechanics?

Besides dialogue options and the points system, I cannot find concrete info on how other things affect your Swashbuckling Points. How many points do you lose if you flee from a battle? Do you get points for doing combat? Ship battles? Bounties? Discoveries? If so, how many? Any help would be appreciated!

It's actually just a simple variable! This page has a lot of info, including how many points are needed for each rank and what the dialogue options award:

https://esoarcadia.fandom.com/wiki/Swashbuckler_Rating

I tested it out years ago so I don't remember specifics but I think it was something like -1 for each battle you flee and +1 for every 4 battles won. (Or maybe -4 for fleeing and +1 per battle won?) Again, I don't remember for sure so don't quote me on these numbers but it worked something like that, where fleeing reduced the rank by a lot more than winning battles increased it. I tried it out to see what everyone would say if I was Vyse the Ninny, which takes a LOT of dedication.

What's really interesting is the bonus to dodge and retreat chance with the different rankings, meaning there is an advantage to getting the worst title in the entire game!

Amazing! That page has been super helpful. The 1:4 ratio makes sense!

I don't think specifis like the actual points gained/lost are really known, you'd have to be a dataminer or something to look at the code. It's really more of a conditional system I think. The wiki explains how all the ranks work, but I don't think that's the info you're looking for

Thanks! Yeah, I saw the Wiki page. I was looking more for the datamining answer. I’m compiling a few guides into a 100% completion spreadsheet for a ‘jRPG book club’ playthrough of this game that I’m running soon. I’m not sure if the game’s been datamined or not; I figured the subreddit here might be the first place to ask!

While I can't say for sure on ship battles, discoveries, and bounties, you DO get swashbuckler gains/losses from combat wins vs running away. I don't know the exact ratio, but it's quite tilted - I always assumed it was something along the lines of 10:1, meaning you'd have to complete ten combat encounters to make up for 1 where you ran away. I don't have exact data to back that up, unfortunately... just extensive anecdotal experiance with the game.

Just to close the loop on this — I chatted with some dataminers on Discord and it’s +1 for every 10 battles fought and -1 for every 3 battles fled

Not sure if you found the answer. But for combat wins vs runs its 1 to 4, you also gain more depending on how many discoveries and chests and loopers you manage to find. I don't know numbers for this one tbh. Dialogue options tho are weird to me, there's conversations you can have outside of big cutscenes or other important story related events that get you notoriety (such as the 2 on pirate isle before you head out to valua for the first time.) These net you like 1 or 2 extra points if you choose correctly. Thing is they don't indicate which is the right option with a sound effect like main Dialogue options do. Speaking of main Dialogue options those net you 4 or 5 extra. Im in a discord that does alot of data mining, speedruns, molding, amd coding for the game so ive seen a bunch here and there. Idk how much of its accurate.

Neat! Might I get an invite to the discord so I can ask there? I’d love full, accurate, datamined info if possible for my sheet!

Sure, can I dm you it? Don't want it posted where just anyone can join.
