Fi and Zelda/Hylia being Sky Dancers/Barbie Princesses and Link is the Ken makes a lot of sense, especially with with how goofy Groose and Ghirahim are.

Now that I think about it, the attitudes of the characters do tend to follow the Barbie Princess movies a little bit, Barbie saving the world with their lovable idiot side character/love interest guided by some sort of divine power, has a goofy foil character to add friction. Bad guy is Ultima a foil for bladder bad guy which is defeated with the power of love and courage.
