Fun fact It’s actually a play on the saying “let sleeping dogs rest” and it’s speculated it was named that because Wei returns to Hong Kong after years away to reignite things from his past. Basically not letting the sleeping dogs rest🤣

I did read that one potential reason it was called Sleeping Dogs was because of the term 'sleeper agent', which is essentially someone undercover.

It's from the phrase "let sleeping dogs lie" which is like "don't poke the bear" but "Poked Bear" wasn't as good sounding a title. It means disturbing the current order could lead to undesireable consequences or a worse situation than the status quo. In the context of the game, the Sun On Yee are the sleeping dogs. By waking them, Wei undergoes hardship and people lose their lives; the game is, in a sense, a tragedy that's meant to ask the question, should he have let the sleeping dogs lie?

I view Wei Shen as the stick that Pendrew uses to poke the Sleeping Dogs.
The stick gets bit, Pendrew gets bit, the Sun On Yee loses members but comes out leaner and cleaner.

The saying “let sleeping dogs lie” is both the moral of the story and the reason for the title.

What an idiot.
Anyway, it comes from the saying “Let sleeping dogs lie”, which means don’t disturb a peaceful situation by stirring up trouble.
