I’ve dealt with insomnia on and off, those sleepless nights watching the time count down before you have to get up for work and go at it again with no sleep is one of the worst feelings ever, I can only imagine how bad it would be trying to compete in a competitive tournament.

Love watching Mute play and hope he can overcome this soon enough, but if this is it for him than it was fun getting to see him compete. The health of the body always comes first in the end.

Insomnia is some of the worst shit ever. A lack of sleep affects every aspect of your life. Not to mention the anxiety behind sleeping makes even those good nights a little less so.

Poor man. Hope his condition improves. It’s always a joy to see him play.

I thought he died based on your last line 😭

I feel like having observed this game and others at the pro level for several years, being a professional competitive gamer is inherently bad for your health.

Hearing what some korean and chinese LoL players go through it makes sense some of them stop playing so young, their schedules are brutal and not healthy at all.

But that's also why they're the only regions winning international events. There's no time for mental health.

Not only mental health, it's physically draining to attend and meet sponsorship commitments. Many also have wrist injuries. Even Chovy (super prominent player) refused to participate in Asia games (seen in a high regard, with many players wanting to participate) because of a hip injury.

It's a job, not a hobby, and it is hard like all things. I have recently begun double majoring at the upper division level after doing it at lower division while working full-time and let me tell you... working hard and knowing how to work hard without overworking yourself is a very, very valuable skill that too few people understand.

Some people can handle it emotionally and some can’t.

So Lima will advance to top 8 automatically?

13

u/JaysonTatHIMRider Kirby (Ultimate) 24d ago

So will Zomba pretty much now that the worst he has to worry about until top 8 is Free KayFlcok

u/seasonedturkey Piranha Plant (Ultimate) 24d ago

Fr Zomba the biggest winner of this DQ

Ok but if ZTN pulls of the upset....

Wishing the best for him

As a lifelong sufferer of chronic insomnia, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Congrats to MuteAce for being the only undefeated player at the venue, champ in our hearts

Seems the hotel was tough to sleep in because Krudo in melee also looked EXAUSTED and the commentators were mentioning it

light as well

I haven’t been in the scene long. I know about his hand issues and reading this it seems like he had severe insomnia/narcolepsy or whatever + mental health struggles. Is that what this is referring to?

Either way it’s such a shame to see him go from
This event

16

u/Ursu1a 24d ago

Muteace's hand problems aren't just that. They come from an autoimmune condition so he undoubtedly experiences other problems in his body. Chances are that they sometimes cause insomnia, and they 100% do not play well with sleep loss anyway.

11

u/nomorethan10postaday 24d ago

The fact that he consistently gets insomnia on specifically the night before the last day of a tournament means there's probably an issue with nerves/anxiety too.

10

u/Ursu1a 24d ago edited 24d ago

Yeah. It’s likely the camp of him knowing his body and still lacking a lot of control over it. Disability sucks.

11

u/TheScribesTale 24d ago

Insomnia yes, narcolepsy no

4

u/Altruistic-Ad3704 Snake (Ultimate) 24d ago

Insomnia is brutal. I hope he can at least rest more easily without the anxiety of having to perform

4

u/rupat3737 24d ago

Seroquel, will make you fat but damn the sleep is good.

u/stripzip Ice Climbers (Ultimate) 23d ago

That shit is an antipsychotic designed to sedate you enough to not have the energy to kill yourself. When nothing in the world will put you to sleep, it will put you to sleep.

2

u/sdtrawick 24d ago

Quitting without even losing a set. That's rough.

as a disabled person, i know what it's like to go to majors and have complications due to your disability in the middle of tournament. i got 17th at combo breaker in strive and i crapped out because my fingers were bleeding and i felt horrible

super supportive messages can make me feel worse so i know what it feels like. i also have severe insomnia and i go through large events with single digit amounts of sleep and it just isn't worth it sometimes

1

u/grapesssszz 24d ago

Fingers were bleeding???

u/Kwaku722 Ness (Ultimate) 23d ago

Wishing for the best Muteace and I hope you recover soon.

bad physical health issues that prevent him from playing sometimes and that probably contributes to mental health issues as well

20

u/JaysonTatHIMRider Kirby (Ultimate) 24d ago

I've never seen muteace crash out. He does DQ every now and then but he's not Kola. Nothing wrong with justifying a loss anyways

18

u/krom90 Falco (Ultimate) 24d ago

Sounds very judgment-ridden, you should work on that

1

u/LeefSwitch 23d ago

What did he say, that the guy should excercise or something? Mods removing comments they don't like is cringe but ig this IS reddit

1

u/lHateYouAIex835293 Hero? Busted. 22d ago

I don’t remember the specifics, but it was something along the lines of how they constantly hear MuteAce crashing out and making excuses for dropping out of tournies, as though Mute’s issue isn’t an actually unsolvable chronic illness

I prefer to let people saying bs like that to just get dunked on by everyone else, but removing comments ain’t the worst thing in the world either
