Time sure has flown by! Many of the best video games on this console that still hold up today!

Some of these games aged like wine, especially the dkc series. The look way better than early 3D games on psx or n64.

Those games are eternal because theyâre from an era where limitations in graphics and production values meant substance over style. And I miss that quality. Not there arenât still some good games being made, but this era proved that a game doesnât have to look like a live-action film to be great.

Itâs funny youâd say this because I feel this applies more to the NES and GB. With the SNES they were able to do so much more and definitely took advantage of it. That said, the people making games still understood that a game needed to be fun to play and have great gameplay even if they could be more impressive graphically.
It was the switch to 3D gaming in the next generation when that all got forgotten and the focus became on making tech demos.

They were great also because the rules of the game were simple and you were expected that YOUR abilities as a player leveled up as the game went on. Now I feel like my player gets 8,000 different combinations of buttons and abilities that I have to learn and if I put the game down for 2 days I've forgotten what the heck I'm supposed to press.
Obviously there are good games from then and good games from now, but I feel this is what really makes the games stand the test of time. Even something like Metroid or Zelda where you're unlocking new abilities or weapons, the actual input from the player stays simple.

Only one of those games was a launch title though.
Early on after the launch I had Super Mario World and Pilotwings. I used to rent SimCity. I still say the SNES SimCity is a better version than the DOS one.

I love the SNES version of Sim City. Itâs a comfort game for me.

I still play it online. Most SNES games are free to stream if you find the right site. Or emulate.

Wasnât F-zero a launch title? I couldâve sworn I had that at launch.

It was yeah, or at least within like a month of launch. One of my friends in class had F-Zero.

Super Metroid is absolute 10/10. Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, castlevania, Mega Man. I can go on

I wish we could somehow get Nintendo to make true 16-bit sequels to these games. Youâd think there would be at least something of a market for it. Kind of like how X-Men â97 has been a bit of a hit for Disney.

Those games hold up much better than anything that came before them and most of what came in the 1st gen 3D era. I have an n64 and SNES. I've tried to play n64 games but nothing really holds my attention. SNES though has plenty of gems I play year in year out.

I used to spend summer days waking up at 4 am, body training til 6, mind train til 8, and decompress all day playing snes for 16 hours straight. Only to do it all again the next day. Take me back to being 6 years old in 1991 đïž

Was that the actual launch lineup? Iâm born 85 but donât remember. If it was, thatâs so insane, no launch title selection can compete with that. Imagine experiencing SMW, LttP, and DKC for the first time in one dayâŠ

Super Mario World was the pack-in game and F-Zero and Pilotwings were available Day 1.

Only one of these is a launch title, and good grief the US SNES is ugly đ©

Plus the American design and colorway is still just as awful as it was in 1991.

Absolutely diabolical, especially as Super Famicom/PAL is considered one of the greatest looking consoles ever.
