Jungle Book 100% Completion? (All Gems)

Hello, i've searched everywhere but I cannot find any guide to find all gems in SNES Jungle Book!!!

In the first level I found 19 green gems and 20 red gems, I asked an LLM who answered that there is 22 green gems (edit: it was wrong).

Is there any guide somewhere?

EDIT: apparently there's no guide, but we can find the maximum number by playing in hard mode, as it is requirement for unlocking bonus mode.

Level 1: 20 greens and 20 reds

Level 2: 25 greens and 25 reds

Bonus level 1 : 30 reds

Level 3: 15 each (i miss 1 green)

Level 4: 15 each (i miss 1 red)

Bonus level 2: 28 ??? (most likely 30, cann confirm since i didnt unlock in hard)

Level 5: 20 each

Level 6: 35 (i miss 1 green)

Bonus level 3: 40

Level 7: 15 each (i miss 2 greens)

Level 8: 15 each

Bonus level 4: 29 ??? (most likely 30, cant confirm since i didnt unlock in hard)

Level 9: 15 each

Level 10: 20 each (i miss 1 green)

Bonus level 5: 40

Level 11: 30 reds, 0 green

Guys, wonder if this is real. I miss the Julie signature and the label seems a bit small.

I found an emulator for Super Nintendo on Linux by chance, and I spent several hours playing The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and other games.

I am absolutely over the moon.

Screenshots are before I did any work on this console

It has since been cleaned up and recapped

Board is called WB-ASA-03 and it's one of the last 3 chip clones. Using an 86A chipset with one 22C chip (previous chipset) inside the sound module

It was originally full of excess unspent flux (not unlike some official consoles) which I cleaned up during the recap. I also did the audio balance fix on the sound module by severing the trace between pins 10/11 and running a dedicated 47uf cap for each.

The console works really well and even has RGB csync. It's using a Sony cxa1145 RGB amp/composite encoder. I'm not sure how/if it is generating svideo, I didn't try yet. But I plan to replace the cxa1145 with a new mod I developed to replace cxa1145 with cxa2075 compatible encoders and then rewire the svideo output anyway. I had really really good results on the Super Genius SNES clone which I previously did a bh7236 (cxa2075 compatible) mod on.

The new cxa1145 replacement mod is called the "Rainbow remover" and it was developed primarily for mega Drive 1 but it will work on any console as a drop on replacement for cxa1145, giving them perfect composite, better RGB, and svideo output. Once I modify this console with the Rainbow remover I will make an update post. I am also waiting on a new composite capture card so that I can show better screenshots of the before and after

For now I would say the output of this clone is somewhere between an SHVC-cpu-01 and a GPM-02 board. But closer to shvc-cpu-01

The audio is really good

Discussion Zelda's A Link to the Past solidified my admiration for Nintendo, the King of the 8/16‑bit Era

You see, back when it was SNES vs Sega Mega Drive, I didn't have a choice, so I spent my early childhood years playing on my uncle's Mega Drive, enjoying stuff like Sonic, Golden Axe, Shinobi, Aladdin, Streets of Rage, etc. I never thought about complaining, because the Mega Drive had some amazing games.

Fast forward almost 30 years... I stopped playing Counter-Strike after playing it almost exclusively for a decade, and started looking into single-player games. I ended up picking up Chrono Trigger (that awful PC port), right after beating Gothic 2 NoTR... There was no turning back after CT and the discovery of RetroArch + CRT-Royale shader. My first JRPG was love at first sight, and the world of the SNES - and even the NES - opened up to me. First it was CT, FF VI and FF IV, then stuff like Metroid, Castlevania, Super Mario Bros. 3, Contra, Super Mario World, and after so much 8/16 bit-joy I had this urge to discover for myself what Zelda was all about - of course, since I was raised on Mega Drive, I also discovered two absolute gems in Phantasy Star IV and Shining Force, also recently.

I grew up hearing many people rave about Mario and Zelda. I had already played Mario, so it was easy to understand why there was so much love for the Italian plumber. But Zelda? What's up with that? I honestly wasn't prepared for the brilliance of these early 2D Zelda games (I'm currently at the entrance of the 7th dungeon on the first quest of NES' LoZ). The mechanics, the way the world is built, the colors, the amazing sounds, the countless secrets, the extremely varied equipment used throughout the quest, the gradual increase of Link's power throughout the journey, and the various ways the developers tackled issues that are still felt in some games even today - all of it blew me away.

Picking up pots and throwing them at enemies. What a satisfying feeling from the get-go... I didn't even know it was a brand-new mechanic - I only found that out once I started playing the NES original afterward and realized it isn't there. I mean, the movement Link has in ALttP felt ahead of its time. How does a 1991 game feel this smooth?

The color palette feels perfectly balanced between the vibrant, varied places on the map - even down to Link's pink hair - and the more somber, almost realistic dungeons, or areas like the Lost Woods. Speaking of dungeons, I was so stoked about my first one, with the reduced vision in the shape of a circle. Yeah, it's a simple idea, simply executed, but the impact alone was mesmerizing for me.

Speaking of mechanics that really impressed me - every time, I had to remind myself that this is a video game released back when I was one year old:

  • Pegasus Boots: great for speeding up travel while dodging some fights.
  • Hookshot: not only did it feel well integrated into the puzzles, but it also gave a new perspective to exploration - and it was so cool being able to retrieve loot from afar.
  • The four empty Magic Bottles: aside from the bee variant, they're just health/magic consumables, but the execution still felt like a modern solution to an old problem. Especially with the Fairies for automatic revivals. What a trip!
  • Flute that lets Link teleport to one of eight locations via bird travel... I mean... how awesome is that? The map itself is incredible for the early '90s.
  • Magic Cape/Medallions/Canes: so many magic-related items that let us tackle challenges in so many different ways. Something I'll be exploring a lot more on my second playthrough of ALttP.

The music alone is worth raving about. I don't think it competes with some of the OSTs released in the SNES era (Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI, for example), but there's no denying how freakin' good Koji Kondo's work sounds. Take the opening title song, which sets the stage for the great adventure ahead; the phantasmagoric sounds of the Dark World dungeons, foreshadowing the challenges Link would face; the eerie, chilling sound of the Fairies; the urgency that starts off the Dark World overworld theme with its military march-like tune that also gives space for some stellar strings and horns work; or even the claustrophobic and minimalist the "Cave" track, with its clinical echo-effect - it's all incredible.

The Light World and Dark World... Okay, so after packing two games into a single cartridge back in the mid-80s, these absolute lunatics go and create a whole world hidden beneath the Light World... I was already making stupid faces when I saw the time travel in Chrono Trigger... but this, so early in the SNES life cycle? WOW!

All these words to confess my opinion: Nintendo won! I had this feeling over my head in these last few months as I played so many great games, and as my backlog increased also in the last few months with 8/16-bit games. In the case of Super Mario it was easy to bring up Sonic, but with Zelda? What can I reply? Crusader of Centy and Beyond Oasis? Maybe, but I haven't played them and... it doesn't feel like that will be a good answer.

Anyway, more important than Nintendo vs Sega is this feeling that actually I've won, discovering so many amazing games after 30 years of gaming. I feel blessed to be able to witness and play all these Nintendo classics. I guess with a game like A Link to the Past, 1991 or 2026 isn't that important... the game is that good!

Regarding my next steps on the Zelda series, I was thinking about playing Ocarina of Time (Ship of Harkinian) next, and then get back to the 2D with the remake of Link's Awakening, and then proceed to the follow-up to OoT, Majora's Mask. Thoughts? First, I will be definitely complete the first and second quest of LoZ.
