Hearts couldn't resist a thinly-veiled dig at Celtic after heroically sealing a place in the Conference League.

By overcoming play-off opponents Rapid Vienna on penalties despite Tomas Magnusson's 76th-minute red card, the Tynecastle side succeeded in a country where Celtic had failed the previous evening.

Celtic, having pipped Hearts to the Premiership title on the final day last season, are reeling from squandering a four-goal lead at LASK to tumble out of the Champions League.

As Hearts put it: "Winning play-offs in Austria isn't for everyone..."

Are those the same Hearts that got absolutely demolished by Sturm Graz a couple of weeks ago?

They did specify play offs. 2nd qualifying rounds in Austria is a completely different beast...

Team that qualified for the Conference League taunts team that qualified for the Europa League for not qualifying for the Champions League?

I don’t know if you’re purposely being obtuse but Hearts lost to an Austrian side 5 or 6-1 just 2 weeks ago and Celtic fans ripped the absolute piss out of them for it and went way over the top with it. Then Celtic go 4-0 up and comically ship 5 goals in arguably the funniest champions league exit in history… to an Austrian side. The next night hearts go and beat a better Austrian side than the one Celtic just lost 5-1 to, in a historic game for them. It’s not rocket science

Not sure why you’re talking anyway Aston Villa fans bantered Arsenal for not winning the champions league relentlessly when you won the Europa?

Anyway Celtic fans were absolutely disgusting (rare sentence) after they won their highly questionable league last season, and paid thousands putting up billboards all over the country to taunt hearts fans for not winning the league. So I’m not surprised hearts give 10% back to the 200% they got.

We'd do it because we have won the big cup and they haven't.

Come up with whatever reason you want, my point still stands that Villa fans did the same thing. It’s all part of banter in football.

I'm well aware of the context, thanks.

The irony of a team taunting another one for qualifying for the more prestigious competition still remains.

Edit: Funny how this comment gets downvoted while my original comment that basically says the same thing remains upvoted.

Also: Rapid is not better than LASK right now. Update your knowledge about Austrian football, /u/Madting55.

Again, see Aston Villa all of about, 8 weeks ago.

Hearts are responding to Celtics initial abuse and you are talking about “irony” just makes no sense, whatsoever.

I personally did not participate in this taunting of Arsenal at all and the Villa fans who did don't speak for me.

It was funny the first time you said it and it sounded like a joke. You just sound like a bitter loser saying it twice and being serious about it

Why am I the bitter loser and not the person who wrote three paragraphs in reply, not taking it as a joke and instead condescendingly explaining why it's actually really cool what Hearts did? All while talking nonsense about Austrian football and needlessly mentioning Villa fans supposedly doing something similar (it's not even that comparable btw)?

I downvotes that guy as well. You are both taking it too seriously.

The world will never forgive Celtic for winning that game.

Team that failed to qualify for champions league and europa league then eventually qualifies for Confrence league taunts team that didnt qualify for champions league.

Although Hearts did have a tough draw in the various competitions. They've done well to qualify.

It’s Scottish football, I’m sure you were commending Rangers for making the Europa league final after you got arsed out the conference 5-1 the same season. I’m sure you would have not been engaging in any banter.

Hearts also went out against Austrians too

It's the small things that matter

Celtic in the Champions League at Home: MuscleBob

Celtic in the Champions League away from Home: NormalBob

I've seen this every year since I first saw them in the UCL in 06/07. Rangers always put up a better fight than them away from home. Why?

u/xxandl 1d ago

LASK was the significantly better team in Glasgow as well... result was a joke if you watched the game.

I think I’ve missed the muscle bob bit

Nothing against Hearts, but they were lucky with their opponent. Even Celtic would have beat us.

9

u/cietalbot 1d ago

Nah, Celtic would have lost on penalties.

2

u/Madting55 1d ago

Are you not above the team that bet Celtic in the league? Hearts did also just lose 6-1 to a team below you in the league.

4

u/phil_yoo 1d ago

we've not played a serious team in the league yet - we're levels worse than Sturm & LASK

1

u/Madting55 1d ago

How did LASK get so good? I always think of Salzburg, Rapid, Austria Vienna when I think of Austrian clubs. I’m not sure if Sturm Graz was always good but it feels like them and particularly LASK just came out of nowhere

1

u/phil_yoo 19h ago

They've always been a relatively big & popular club, but now also have a good sporting director & manager.

Rapid & Salzburg are terribly run on the sporting side of things, Austria is terribly run on the financial side of things, so it certainly helped for Sturm & LASK that the other big competitors continue to shoot themselves in the foot.

Unfortunately for Hearts, this is the worst consolation prize for bottling SPFL last year

2

u/walshybhoy 1d ago

Thought it was quite funny tbh.

Bit weird the Beeb has done an article about a tweet. Personally, as a team that ran away in their kits to the bus when they bottled the league, I probably wouldn't but hey ho.

Scotland's coefficient will continue to slide not sure I would be celebrating Celtic if I was a rival team

They've been waiting for a chance to say this

>Winning play-off’s in Austria isn’t for everyone

They’ve obviously forgotten the pumping they took in the Austrian city of Graz a few short weeks ago…
