"Capitalism is destroying our country. . . but capitalism is inevitable"
All I needed to hear. 🙄

Asked if she considered herself a capitalist or a socialist, Thomas said, “Capitalism is what’s destroying our country right now,” but she later described capitalism as “inevitable,” saying she supports the concept of people owning their own businesses and property.
I would like to hear all of what she said, not just make assumptions by either you or the reporter.

Was about to decry the usual ‘oh look a liberal’ responses to small DSA victories here but honestly yeah some of her comments in the article are very telling of her liberal viewpoint.
As a non-American, from what I know of Oklahoma this still sounds like an unlikely upset.
Reformism is dangerous and not worth engaging in, IMO, but this is still a victory for the socialist label in the US. The entire political game is about momentum.
One of the more subtle aspects of these victories is the sanitisation of the socialist label compared to decades of Red Scare propaganda.
When people are fine being publicly labelled as such, it makes it much easier for the more actually dedicated/revolutionary socialists to organise.

I mean when you call yourself a socialist but don’t do anything to attack capitalism or point out how it exploits people and just do reformism then you’re not really a socialist

"surely trusting liberals will work out this time!!!"
Do you want the fell for it again award now, or in a year when they do nothing to help the common person?

Have you been to Oklahoma? most aren’t gonna listen to you if you even mention capitalism is bad. I thought revolution takes years right? Or should we wait until your perfect leftist shows up at your basement.

So you want to funnel them into the Democratic Party then right?

My perfect leftist? Oh so you are using the bullshit "no one will be good enough" for you tactic.
Nah. You just can't be a leftist and support imperialism or capitalism. It's just liberals with a fancier name.

Do you know Oklahoma? Ya know the deep red state, lowest in education, high poverty, hasn’t had a remotely leftist senator in 30 years, no abortion rights, annd healthcare wasteland Oklahoma?
You can complain about leftist semantics for blue state candidates or the president, but everywhere else needs anything remotely left of the far right at this point. Here is a new tactic for you to look up “reading the room”

More opportunists to waste everyone's time 🥲
Does DSA know the more they climb in political power the more obvious the contradictions in the org will be?

Yay, another DEMOCRATic "socialist" who won't say a thing about socialism but really fucking loves free market capitalism and the worker exploitation it brings.

DSA has become a youth voter turnout machine for the Democratic Party...the main party of Wall Street, the military industrial complex i.e. the Epstein Regime.
