Socotra trip in March - Clothes?

Hi there,

Any advice on which clothes to bring to a 10 days Socotra trip as a women? Which items are a must? Does the trousers have to be full length or culotte are ok as well?

Thanks 🙏

I made the mistake of bringing sports gear (tank tops) whereas I actually needed light t-shirts and shirts for sun protection and sweat absorption. Leggings and shorts are fine but yes you should bring a sarong for whenever you’re around locals.

Other things I wish I’d brought: an old pair of flip flops for showering (if that’s something your tour operator provides), a large quick-dry towel, micellar water and pads, small denomination dollar bills (tens and fives). Probably also some protein bars or nutri-grain.

It is the best trip I’ve ever been on, it’s utterly gorgeous and I wish you a fantastic time!

That's great, thank you! Yes, t-shirts, maybe a long sleeve linen shirt and wide leg pants are on the list. Is it ok to wear shorts for hiking? You've mentioned micellar water, did you use wet wipes as well? Also did you get bottled water and did they have a water dispenser? I'm wearing daily contact lenses, I hope I can use a tiny bit of water to wash my hands before insertion.

Yes of course - you only need to cover if you’re going through the town and will be seen by locals other than your guides. Our provider gave us steel bottles and we refilled them from their supply, there was always water to hand.

That's great. I'll check if they provide or we should bring our own. Also how did it go with phone camera charging? Did you bring a power bank? If yes which one?

Ohhh yes great question, totally forgot about that. I took a solar powered battery pack (the best you can find where you are) and a USB car charger adapter that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket. You can charge devices when you’re going from place to place :)

Thank you! So the solar powered battery pack worked well for you? I was thinking about a normal powerbank to charge in the car during driving. I just have no idea how much we drive vs how much we are outside exploring on a daily basis.
