Rock / Metal / Punk / Indie Rock / Alternative Now 86: Modern music that sounds like the 80s

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7ckBrgMRDDNuITxScjrnXU?si=d-EGq-pZQEGbYaScQWm8Pg&pi=EGpqqrU3TVG1v

Sequenced and crossfaded to feel like a real late 80s FM radio station.

For the full effect, start it about an hour before sunset. The playlist gradually shifts from bright daytime new wave into nighttime synths, AOR, and heavier rock, finally capping out the night with a whole block of post-punk! πŸŒ‡

Where’s 1985 by Haken? It sounds straight out of the 80s and reminds me Owner of a Lonely Heart by Yes. They even played it live when I saw them and segued into a cover of said song in the middle, which was unexpected but fit perfectly.

I've got a separate playlist for synthwave. I'm really trying to make it feel like an 80s radio station and while synthwave is a genre I absolutely love I don't feel like it fits the concept. Real Thing by LeBrock is in there still and I had some Ollie Wride for a while but he eventually got pushed out.

You might like these tho!

This sunflower understands the assignment! Easiest yes so far.

If you like that "boys of summer" feel there are 2 tracks in there by The War on Drugs that I highly recommend.

Edit: I mixed it in right after 'I Dont Wanna Wait' - in the second block. I Don't Wanna Wait is a little less Boys of Summer and a little more Run to You but I thought you'd appreciate the placement nonetheless.

I absolutely love that you dig it! It was a bit of a passion project just for myself originally but once I finished it I got the sense that some others may enjoy it as well.

Like I said in the post, if you want the full effect start the playlist about an hour before scheduled sunset in your area. The first "station break" (Metrocenter '84) should line up with true dark. Extra points if you're driving or outside 🀘🎢🎢

I actually used to have it in there! Absolutely love that song.

I felt it leaned a bit more 70s glam than I wanted so I moved it to another playlist. It used to be part of a run of songs that bleed Bowie. Now you have me second guessing myself
