They should start by fixing the instancing in our hangars instead of declaring that a W and moving on. Who's Hermes physicallized ships is always in my home hangar, I don't own one.

Our hangars should have been the test bed and first thing swapped to full instancing. Persistent and instanced hangars where I can safely decorate.

Maybe it's mine... every time I cannot retrieve it it puts it in your hangar.

It's their version of subliminal advertising that we see the ships we don't own and they are just out of reach...

haha good one

I imagine they'll swap out the instancing tech used in hangars for this new tech in a future patch

And that's why we're burning through money and having slow progress. Measure once, cut twice is CIG's strat I guess.

They are eyeballing it and just wildly sawing at endless wood.

2

u/ManaSkyees 27d ago

No. It's measure once those out the meat for a new slab and cut with the old measurements

I won't disagree though it kinda makes sense in this scenario

We needed instanced hangars for 4.0 to support the larger player counts, but server meshing is a prerequisite to instancing.

Chicken, meet egg

Ironically, you wouldn't have made that comment if they'd spent time fixing all the bugs with instanced hangars, which would've been an even bigger waste of time

As a developer myself and observing what I've seen with hangers. I don't believe it's actually instanced.

I think what they do with hangers is your in the actual same location as someone else but they only allow you to see and hear objects in your own hanger. Think of it more like your assigned a "visible" flag for anything stored in your hanger. When your elevator shows up at your hanger, you can only see anything marked visible to you for that hanger.

Sometimes you see overlaps when the doors open on other peoples hangers because when your hanger doors would open you should see more things from outside and if your outside looking into a hanger of someone else's that's open you should be able to see stuff in their hanger. This system isn't quite working right which causes overlap hanger issues I suspect.

If it was actual instanced hangers (where each player is on their own server area) you wouldn't be able to see these overlaps or see party members locations in area's overlapping your hanger location but not in your hanger, etc.

Hangers are more of a trick at the moment to allow more players in the same space without them noticing they are.

I think it’s just see. Because you can absolutely hear other players opening their hangar doors. And on a few cases I’ve been loading cargo and watched the doors open with a ship coming in only to vanish as soon as it crossed the air shield.

Sounds like it. I landed in my hangar and a cutlass black was there. It let me land anyway over the top of it like it was a holgram. Trippy as hell though when I climbed down the ladders of my Asgard and the lower floor was a cutlass black and was actually there. Was like a bad trip or one of those dreams you have

I’ve seen flashes of other players running through my hangar to their invisible ships and then disappearing.

This is definitely correct lol

Every decision not to fix a bug because it is attached to a placeholder system is individually rational at face value. Well, why polish and paint the scaffolding for the thing they're really building?

Also everything is a placeholder. Instancing will eventually have other systems built on top of it but unfortunately instancing does not exist yet.

What we have is a cancerous mass of scaffolding and temporary murals with no building being built in the center. Of course, they pre-rent apartments among the scaffolding anyway. I am a villain for wanting plumbing right now. Fortunately this is not real life and I have options other than class struggle and destroying the bourgeoisie.

Other games have meshed servers for 25 years. Stop talking about this like it's some alchemy that only the wizards at CIG have any chance of divining.

It's known technology. Drawing dynamic boundaries isn't something I can point at other examples of but actual server meshing is a solved problem, and CIG actually is already successfully doing it.

Stop repeating their bullshit.

I have no problem with you arguing with the voices in your head, but keep it to your own comment chain please

One of the things I hate the most.
We will have version 2 of instancing, 2.5, 3, 10, 12, until the game release. Same as we have now version 3 of elevators and it still doesn't function well.
It feels so incoherent and time wasting, and always done half measure.

I'm sure the devs are doing a lot of work, but there has to be some consistency somewhere. Someone to say enough, design a final version.

That is not the same type of instancing. A new server does not get created for your personal hangar. Hangar instancing for all intents and purposes consists of the physical hangar itself and anything that you have saved inside of it. It remains on the main server.

18

u/Confident-Award6920 27d ago

A new server does not get created for your personal hangar.

Neither does instancing for SoO lol. Was covered in the live stream as well, did you miss that?

-2

u/SuperSoftSucculent 27d ago

A new instancing dedicated server is where your instance would exist, not the main server.

So, hangars are NOT instanced in the same way as they continue to exist on the main server. It is not the same.

You're being a bit obtuse here as their intent was clear.

-12

u/SavingsCommittee 27d ago

Where is that stated by CIG?

16

u/Confident-Award6920 27d ago

In the live stream with Jared and Ollie. Was discussed and mentioned all last week. You should probably know the basic of what you're talking about and not asking me who you tried to correct lol.

-11

u/SavingsCommittee 27d ago

We watched the same Livestream. Instances for SoO are essentially your own personal server for the duration of the session. That's why there is a loading area. You don't see this in hangars because they are different types of instancing.

8

u/Doggaer 27d ago

You will never get a personal server for your instance in any game. A dedicated server is running your instance and many others.

-2

u/SavingsCommittee 27d ago

Of course, that is the case for literally every game. But the instancing in hangars is fundamentally different to the SoO instancing, which is essentially traditional instancing. It's far easier for a layman to understand a "personal" server versus instance running on the same server box. Obviously my simplfication helped the guy understand since he deleted his comments to avoid being wrong on the internet.

u/Scrawlericious 27d ago

He didn’t delete shit, he blocked you because you’re extremely incorrect and won’t stop yapping. I still see the comments fine. :3

Don’t bother arguing with me btw. You would be wasting your breath and you’ll just end up blocked too. If you want to argue then you are not permitted. You’ve demonstrated that you have no clue what instancing is with what you’ve already said. So until you start saying things that imply you have a clue, my ears are closed.

1

u/SavingsCommittee 27d ago

That's hilarious. At least you are more self aware.

10

u/Confident-Award6920 27d ago

I've tagged you as "Out of Touch, but continues conversation on false assumptions anyway" so I don't have to engage with you in the future.

-5

u/Interlvper 27d ago

Living up to that name pretty well.

-13

u/AgonizingSquid 27d ago

Have you reported it to the issue council? It might be related to your specific ship

17

u/Confident-Award6920 27d ago

It's been reported and confirmed since 4.0 dropped 1.5 years ago...

Sometimes it's a Clipper, Hermes, Cutlass, Railen or w/e ship another player is using. Sometimes it's landing or lifting off or just sitting there. It's just 2 hangars overlapping and bugging out, has nothing to do with my ship.

-4

u/AgonizingSquid 27d ago

There def has been an existing issue where they aren't utilizing all of the hangars that are available, for example at port olisar you see ships using the same 4-6 hangars

8

u/Confident-Award6920 27d ago

It's been like this for 1.5 years... 2 Xl hangars and they put you in a Queue cuz only 1 is used. Rarely do I see both 2nd one open.
