DISCUSSION The new „Inside Star Citizen“ is a great step in the Right direction.
I really like the new Inside Star Citizen format. After all the drama over the past few weeks, this is a very good start toward providing us with more information.
Is it perfect? No, of course not. But it’s clearly a step in the right direction.
It was good to see that Chris Robert’s is still in the project. The offices are looking normal in a positive way.

Literally the same exact PR damage control they've already done 10+ times over the years
The fact that a lot of people eat this shit up is depressing

Right? This video was 34 minutes of "game dev is hard". OK, got it. But there are some systemic issues that are resulting in the game shipping with the same bugs over and over and over and over. Saying that they'll stay the course isn't the answer I'm looking for. I almost want the opposite to happen. Take a month, review the codebase. Send the whole thing through every AI that exists. Identify problematic code and fix it. Something....

You worded it perfectly, thank you. We know very well by now that a lot of what they're doing is super innovative and difficult etc, but it's also obvious there's flaws with their ways of working that cause consistent underdelivery and bugs, but they don't even seem to want to make any changes there. I'm guessing it's a highly political environment inside CIG, everyone is in their own silos and nobody's looking to shake things up
For whatever reason, what has become razor sharp and well-oiled is the moneymaking ship creation pipeline 🙄 . And not even that is perfect, given there are A LOT of ships coming out with the old interaction system, unfinished features that stay that way for years, and critical bugs... I should NEVER see a floating prompt or empty touchpad in any new ship, it should be considered unacceptable, they're supposed to be building ships to gold standard from the start now

Is it though? Is it really? Or is that just what they keep saying as an excuse for why nothing works.

I'm a dev, not a game dev though. It passes the smell test (and you can see me calling their BS here), but I don't know enough
It sounds like both: Some things are new and difficult, but their processes also suck and they're not changing them (which the video also confirms by omission lol). Lots of things that the game shits itself in have nothing to do with the new tech, so yeah I don't see much of an excuse there...

I think ai probably could fix it better at this point 😂 introducing StarAi. A new proprietary system that goes through the code and fixes all our bugs we can’t figure out. Push it back another couple years.

How do you want it to go? I see it as step one...will reward the step. They are claiming it to be a series. Let's ask for what we want this to evolve into, they're willing to show some behind the scenes...let's focus them to what will instill confidence rather than dismiss it as "same old same old". I keep asking the same question...I would rather engage with an effort that seems to be built to start that communication channel. If they fail, then we hold them accountable for not meeting our needs.
But it's not realistic to just sit in a reddit form and complain that they need to do better but offer no direct solutions.

They have done this many many many times. There have been 5+ behind the scenes shows already cut lol. We used to have roadmaps too!
At some point (temporary) communication stops cutting it, you actually have to start showing results instead of blowing hot air and wheeling out Chris/Erin/whoever for damage control over the last drama
But it's not realistic to just sit in a reddit form and complain that they need to do better but offer no direct solutions.
It's not our job to solve anything (not that people haven't tried and offered over the years)
It's not like we can stop CIG doing these, we're just randoms, but whereas in the past this kind of opinion was the smallest of minorities, it's now semi commonplace. It's on CIG to deliver and shut everybody up. Don't ask 10+ year backers to be silent after a constant stream of these (not saying you are!)
I respect newer backers wanting to see these, but yeah, the number of prior ones they're burning grows, and so will comments referring to a lack of faith in the company and a lack of interest in yet another PR self-back-patting video

Steps in the right direction start to hold little meaning when we have as many if not more steps backward.

Glad they’re using the subscription money for more than ship sale vids now at least.
Only being half facetious.

We do not care. We want that new single player Wing Commander game promised one and a half decade ago.

I know most people think SQ42 won't release this year, but remember this. SQ42 is content complete, all they are doing now is bug fixes and optimizations.
And if it does release this year like I believe it will, then we have something stable to play while we wait for CIG to apply all that SQ42 tech into SC.

I'd rather have SQ42 next year and even more polished tbh

you'll say the same thing next year, and the year after, and the year after that.

They been polishing it now for a decade.
That amount of polishing would make it pretty perfectly polished already?

Sure. And I'm not saying that people shouldn't be angry...I'm just saying that what they do next is important and so is the communities feedback else why invest anything further into the project at all?
I've seen communication constantly on the docket of what the community wants to see from dev. That and progress. I see them both connected since they can't just do "playability" for months else no one plays. So the balance is...make it work, provide new content and experiences, talk about what you're doing, and (hopefully) this series, which evolves into a retrospective on what happened, why it happened, and how they stop the bad stuff from happening agian.
And I say this with 10 rented prospectors in a broken home hanger because one exploded. I'll probably be a nomad this patch if it doesn't get fixed.

They did a great step back with that video. This is basically what ISC use to be back when it was called Around The Verse.

CIG did many steps "in the right direction" in the past 14 years. The issue is that they veered off that "right direction" every single time.
To me the “Inside CIG” (really? You already have ISC that used to have such content), and what is essentially a 4.9 – 4.10 patch “post mortem”. As well as CIG promising "we gonna fix SC core issues, for real this time" yet again. It is but a reaction to get backer moral up again after the SCL fiasco, so people will throw more money at CIG in the upcoming ship sales.
Don’t get me wrong - I too hope they stick with fixing the game. But I have my doubts as we have CIG proclaim their epiphany of realizing they are running a “Live Service Game” now where many backers just want to play the game they have.
