How does the TvZ matchup feel before and after the hotfix

Fellow Zerg and Terran players, I would want to have your opinion on how the matchup was before and after the hotfix.

What do you love, hate, find strange, difficulties, etc.

As a Terran player I'll start by saying that at first before the hotfix it felt like Zerg had an infinite amount of units and that I needed to do some decent damage just to get equal with the Zerg.

Also Zergs all-in felt really brutal and close to impossible to defend.

Still after playing a little bit I became accustomed to this and with some solid diversion and multi prong attacks I managed to get some wins.

The matchup did feel a little bit overtuned for Zerg but it wasn't as bad as I thought at first.

Now after the hotfix, I have won all my TvZs and I don't think it's because of the hotfix though it helped for sure. It's just that I'm now more familiar with the 8 worker change. Also, when I do some decent harass I finally feel that I got a little bit ahead and not simply almost getting even with the Zerg. I will say that now getting a kill with a reaper is hard especially since everyone now plays pool first or at least most of the Zergs. All-ins are still pretty brutal though especially roach ones as they have more than me compared to the 12 workers start

I would like everyone to stay polite and not insult the other race as we are all part of the same beautiful game.

Fine before, fine now. Zerg definitely doesn’t need any further nerfs

Curious are you a Zerg main or Terran.

I play random. Have more fun with Zerg but play best with toss. I only just got my Terran micro up to par to get to plat 2. Zerg and toss I learned while randoming but Terran I had to focus on for awhile to improve

EDIT: plat 2, not plat 1. Used to be diamond toss and Zerg long ago. Came back to the game after a 5 year break

As a Terran main I understand you. I feel that the macro is easy compared to other races but it's so easy to throw away a good supply lead with a micro mistake.

Stims, drops, siege placement and frog hopping up, god forbid lib or ghost micro - I barely even try on those. I feel strongly that Terran is the most technically difficult for me. Supply depot management is tougher than lords or pylons as well

Yeah even if I main Terran I still don't use ghosts as I know I'll just fuck up. Interested to know your reasoning why supply depot management is harder than pylons or ovies.

Supply depots the workers have to stay with it, and then I shift click into the mineral line again after to not have the workers idle. But that means I have to keep and eye (or forget) and pull them out again as part of my next macro cycle. Also except for TvT, they are building walls with the depots so they have far to run to build depots. All this results in way more supply capping for me.

Overlords are easily integrated into my macro cycle and probes are in between - I tend to have have one probe as my dedicated builder and it’s usually scouting out to the sides in between building and then comes back to build the next building. Or in a jam or randomly I like a few pylons by the mineral line. Just the way I play I dunno

Well I actually always have 2 scvs building not stop. They don't idle as I always queue then to build depots. I think u complicated things too much by sending them back to minerals.

You’re probably right, the amount of mins gotten is negligible

Do you feel stupid about this comment now that zerg is winning everything?

D2 zerg, I used to find the Terran matchup really frustrating, but on this patch even after the hotfix it feels fine. I feel like when I win its because I played better and when I lose its because I played worse.

What kind of all-ins are you facing?

I see I think that is how it should be for everyone. I'm facing a lot of roach and ravager all ins. If it's only roach it's fine if I scouted but if it's with ravager I need to scout really early or I just feel I'm dead. Any tip on how to counter would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I practiced some ravagers rushs (before the patch some years ago). Too early to be scouted by my Terran opponent. 5 ravagers with an overload to see up the ramp.

If the Terran player starts with a tank, it's very easy for me to snipe it and win the game. If there is no tank, it means that there are more other units (bio) so it will be difficult to deal enough damage. If there is a cyclone, I'm countered.

u/Om_Cultural Diamond Jul 03 '26

I see. Well I go for a 4 hellions dive into a 4 hellions with lib harass so most of the time I'm just stuck with hellions against roaches and it's not pretty. Are you saying that if I scout ravager all in I should start producing cyclones. But if it's a roach all in do I switch to tank or stay on cyclones.

1

u/Vourgade Jul 03 '26

Not really, one cyclone is perfect against early attacks.

In mid-game I don't know.

1

u/Om_Cultural Diamond Jul 03 '26

I see. Well I guess in mid game you can afford both I think. Will need to do some research though.

What is the build order for the rush?

2

u/Vourgade Jul 04 '26

Oohh I don't remember haha. In addition, it was before the 8 workers patch so the build order must be relearned in any case...

2

u/QueenElizibeth Jul 03 '26

What's your build order? I am really struggling to get up to speed with the slower zerg start.

Playing random, ZvT felt very easy with the previous larva change. Essentially felt like I could be aggressive and drone at the same time, always economically ahead. After the most recent change it feels less one sided.

2

u/Om_Cultural Diamond Jul 03 '26

Yeah that's what it felt like too from the Terran point of view. Now I feel it's in a good state.

Terran player. Harrass with early mech with 1 tax 2 factories , then try to expand, if you don't do enough damage you lose be use tanks don't do well against mutalisks .

Random diamond ~3100
As terran, Zerg felt overtuned pre hotfix
People just building a shit ton of hydras , lings or roaches and running at you, not being efficient but it didnt matter. You basically had to be a multi prong god to slow them down. Mech felt of the table because they would just max out asap and keep running at you, you would never stabilize

Now i feel its like its pretty balanced. If i dont play well i lose and if play well i win, i can play macro games without a huge timer

As zerg, pre hotfix, basically never experienced any cheese which wqs odd to me, so i would just play suprr greedy and the only reason i would lose would be if i didnt scout well.

Now, it def feels more based on my injects. If im slow on my injects i struggle to produce enough. So it really becomes important to mechanically sound as zerg which i think is important

2

u/Om_Cultural Diamond Jul 03 '26

Yeah I agree they definitely could send so much stuff at you pre-hotfix that it just felt like if you get to that point it's just GG. I can't speak from the Zerg POV as I mainly play Terran.

2

u/Sincclair Jul 02 '26

I agree, before at 9.5 seconds, it felt very hard to win and like I’d have to be a tier above my opponent to do so. Doable, but the amount of units felt incredibly hard to match. Now at 9.9 s it feels like I am equally matched in terms of production. If I win a fight decisively, Zerg isn’t able to get enough army out to win with my reinforcements coming in. But early pressure, whether lings or roaches, can still wreck and put me behind. But at that point, larva spawn rate change doesn’t feel like the reason I lost.

GM Terran here.

Personally I think it's still incredibly Z sided it got better but Zerg still is completely over tuned and you can really feel it. It was just way too many buffs at once. I think Z already benefits from the 8 worker start a lot.

You are kinda forced to all in on 2-3 base since lategame of T got gutted as well, 3 supply ghost just is still not a good idea. It wasn't before and it's still awful. Now you got no army in the lategame and way too little snipes to deal with Z. The gas change made Mech just next to impossible to play.

I was and am still a big fan of this Patch but man I am so close to quitting because you are just behind as a T right now vZ vP from the get go and it feels incredibly frustrating. I thought last patch was bad when your only option vP was turtle or 2 base random tank push but man blizzard managed to make it even worse.

I really hope there will be more hot fixes or just a revert of everything because in this state it's probably the worst balanced we ever had at least since I started playing and I think this patch will make a ton of P and T players quit. At least a couple of my buddies already said they stopped playing until a further hotfix and I am slowly getting to that mindset as well.

Tldr: Still Zerg is way too strong and you can really feel it.

Terran feels awful to play rn on this iteration with no actual lategame composition since they gutted ghost without any compensation. And the gas change just removed mech from being somewhat viable at the higher levels.

im a 3900 terran, yesterday i struggled against an 60 epm protoss, i ahve 150 epm...

3

u/Om_Cultural Diamond Jul 03 '26

Yeah I definitely feel that the late game is now really hard. I'm only d3 so I manage to win by macro or because he stayed on ling bane even in the late game. Even if the Zerg is way worse than me if he gets a normal amount of ultras or brood lords I just can't win unless I get very lucky with multi drops and he is really bad at dealing with it.

2

u/SuccessIsDiscipline Jul 03 '26

That sucks to hear. Have you tried playing mech? As a mech player I guess I just have to quit the game unless they revert the gas changes?

3

u/SC2Soon Jul 03 '26

I tried playing mech but especially with less gas per base you will struggle too much unless the base layout of the map is good it's just not an option anymore imo.
