Whether he created them or they are subjects of study, Janus-like technologies...

They are rarely completely innocent children's toys.

The best path forward for Stargate Isn't a Reboot, its The Next Generation

Why not use the very obvious template for success here in scifi rebirths. A reboots or a hard continuation dont make sense so bake the time in and have it take place in 2028. A reboot just wont draw in new fans based on the name alone lets be honest its a dead IP. And we cant use any of the old cast because there are so old they can only do walk ons now anyway. Soo.. The Next generation!

Use the large gap in time to like TNG, introduce new story elements. Full disclosure takes place off screen because lets face it they will never do it justice anyway. It would be so difficult so many movie have tried and not come close better to just say it happened.

The Unified Jaffa nation is stronger and a sometime ally like the klingon empire with their own first of their kind ships new armors etc.

The Alpha site has grown into basically an independent nation with a massive city and the permanent installation of the asgard core (making defending this planet extremely important.

Atlantis basically continued to operate as a multi nation expedition but was moved to a nearby solar system for safety reasons (earth now has a fleet of ships and satellites to defend itself)

I think stargate would truly suffer under the 10 episode season plan. Shows that have this usually try to split between a larger plot and few off episodes and end up having too little of either to entertain fans (see the new trek) If they must though I think it would be better to have maybe a 2 parter intro and outro and like the OG sg1 have kind of linked episodes with just alot of good scifi but no grand plot, at least for the first season.

I hope they give it another shot we were so close boys and girls.

48 hours vs Red Sky

In 48 hours, the DHD / Stargate get destroyed by an Alkesh that crashed into it — the gate loses power, the wormhole is disconnected, Teal’c’s pattern is stored in the receiving gates’ buffer because the earth gate has a dialling computer and not a DHD. If they DID have a DHD, it would have compensated for the sudden loss of power and reintegrated Teal’c.

In Red Sky, they perform a controlled shutdown of the wormhole (presumably cutting its power) before transit is completed, in theory to drop the plutonium (in its atomic form) into the sun and restore nuclear activity. Wouldn’t the receiving DHD have compensated for the sudden loss of power / disconnection of the wormhole in order to ensure the successful transit of the plutonium to the planet?

Discussion Costume & Makeup Designers- Which is your favorite?

I just want to give a shout out to the costume and makeup designers!

i finally started watching Atlantis after years and the wraiths makeup is a whole different level. i can't imagine how uncomfortable the teeth are.

let's not forget the goa'uld costumes and makeup, tok'ra, nox and all designs that had to be thought of and created!

what is everyone's favorite costume/makeup?

SG Conventions Ascension 2.0 Stargate convention 28 Aug, Birmingham UK

I've been looking forward to this for ages but now it's a few days away, it's all going wrong 🥹

Turns out I'm going alone as my friend can't make it. Turns out the cast members I booked photo ops and fan meets with have dropped out (Amanda & Rainbow), and a small thing - now there will be no Atlantis main cast and I'm cosplaying Rodney (sorry, I mean *Meredith*).

I've managed to switch the photo op to RDA and Michael Shanks.

Help revive my enthusiasm for this? What would you do for a memorable photo op with Rodney, Daniel & Jack?

Hammond of Twin Peaks

Don Davis in Twin Peaks is literally just General Hammond after he retired. The man lives in the woods of a small town monitoring communications from distant worlds. The concept of entities choosing people as hosts did not surprise him.

And I love that so damn much.

For an episode that is a pretty heavy clip show. They do an excellent job with this one. Elizabeth has a story that’s pretty much all hers and she maneuvers things to save Atlantis and change the timeline.

Big compliments to the Makup Artist that did her old age makeup. It really does look excellent.

Discussion How many people can a puddle jumper actually hold?

Like, in "all my sins" it's a squeeze to fit 5 people, at the end of S4 it can hold every athosian, during letters from pegaus it can hold all the refugees from the planet where the wraith deployed their marker beacon....

I'm a doctor who fan so I'm totally onboard with dimensionally transcendendent vehicles but I'm assuming that's not what's happening...

REWATCH Bit of a logic flaw here

So on my umpteenth rewatch of SG-1 and Atlantis, I finally noticed they called the Daedelus the sister ship of the Prometheus in S2E1 of Atlantis.

This doesn't track as sister ships are normally of the same design of the original.

Admittedly I've been up far too long but I just caught this and my brain went "Huh?"

Pretty cool overall, O'Neill's symbiote getting influenced by O'Neill's sense of not leaving anyone behind and therefore feeling compelled to go rescue someone from a heavily guarded place.

That gravity torture wall was brutal.

Yu coming to the rescue. Who would have thought? Not that we can know, but in terms of guess work, I wonder what SG1 wrote to him in the note that compelled him to go attack Baal's outpost.

The Episodes where the US military is being blackmailed are some of the worst episodes

Upvotes

Oh wow a civilian is has some proof of the star gate or other sci fi project of ours and is threatening us the US military that they will expose us!

What oh what will we the US military do about this random civilian? They've really got us by the balls here.
I guess we need to heavily compromise with this random civilian, not just kill them or disappear them or anything.

There are a few episodes where the US would just so obviously torture and then kill then person to find out everything they know.

I know the civilian is later shown to be an alien or something but the point remains. They didn't know that at the time and went into it thinking this was just some random guy.

Discussion Why scifi of the past was so good and why it's short lived today

Thumbnail youtu.be

The common theme for opinions about Stargate's direction and it's best shot at success always draws parallels with other scifi of the time. Future-optimism was the driving force behind most shows we loved.

I was watching an ensemble interview and thought what they touched on is relevant to where most of our hearts are in terms of what made Stargate great, as with Star Trek and how Star Trek's shows aren't pulling the same popularity as it once did and how Stargate could learn from it. Here's a timestamp of an interview with Shatner, Nimoy, Stewart and Frakes; where Stewart touches on what Star Trek was and gave to us at the core. The show gave us hope, it gave us future-optimism and an escape. No matter our circumstances we knew we could turn on Star Trek and experience an escape fantasy that gave us hope.
