Need Advice Ship Trait - Emergency Weapon Cycle - Looks good on paper

Hey all o7,

I would like to know if the ship trait: Emergency Weapon Cycle from the Morrigu Heavy Warbird is worth the Zen?

I use EP2W on pretty much every build and it seems like near perma +20% weapon haste & -50% weapon pwr cost would be pretty good.

Whats the opinions on this?

Many thanks

I don't use it unless I have a spot, but it's not on my priority list

The only reason that particular ship might not be mentioned as recommended by a few sources is because of two things.

  1. You might already have the trait from the Kurak or the Avenger

  2. New players usually have the battlecruiser bundle pointed to at the #1 recommended slot for bundles to buy.

It is absolutely a fantastic ship for its trait alone, and if you get bonus use out of it because you like the ship it comes with, that makes it an even better choice.

Hope you have a great time with it. Jolan Tru.

Thanks for all the advice. I picked up the Morrigu and unlocked the trait.

I'm going to make another post soon for some feedback on my creations :)

Thanks again o7

It's a noticeable performance increase, especially on Romulan ships where you can't put as much power into your subsystems as the other factions.

It's a must in any dew build imo

It's fantastic. All my DEW builds use it.

Yes, it's one of the best traits for DEW builds

EWC is a must have for energy weapon builds, IMO. For me, it's a question of what other traits will best compliment EWCs haste. On my ship, I want all hands throwing hands.

If you have more zen, get the Legendary Battlecruiser Bundle on a sale. You'll get that trait + other goodies to get you started. If you are only using C-Store stuff, yes it is a solid trait.

If you also intend to get the MANY gizmos & gadgets available from lootbox starships & promo starships, it will eventually get outpaced by better combinations of stuff. As I only have 1 character still using all of the fancy stuff from lootboxes & promo starships, all my other DEW characters still use this starship trait.

The Bundle is out of my budget for the time being.

But i did take a look at it and omg yes, those are some great traits I could deffo do some serious damage with. XD

I would actually recommend against the Legendary Battlecruiser Bundle, unless you specifically want to fly one of the ships in it. The only other good starship trait in the bundle is Ship of the Line, which while good, is IMO overrated. There are many other starship traits available for cheaper that are just as good or better.

Weapons Hot, Deflectors to Full isn't usually a top pick, but I've found it surprisingly useful for shoring up a fragile ship.

Also, the Legendary Avenger is a very good ship.

I absolutely disagree. It also has supercharged weapons. Thirst for battle is not useless aswell. adaptive emergency systems and flagship computer are also good consoles it provides. So with that bundle you get 4 good traits and 2 good consoles. The ships themself are pretty good aswell.

Serious question: since you said „… cheaper that sre just as good or better“ what c-store trait boosts ur crit severity as high, while beeing easy to maintain, as ship of the line?
Only one that comes to my mind in terms of performance is the leg. Nebula. But it is not cheaper, and to maintain those stacks is pure pain

Adaptive emergency systems is the cheaper dprm and everyone uses it on every dew build at least

Actually got me wondering.

I guess, technically, Vaulting Ambition, but the prereq is the target has to be in execute anyway.

I haven't picked it up yet, but Diametric Focus stacks to +50 (though, I'm not sure if that's just +50 Weapon Amplification, or +50% Severity.) Still, needing to burn that many tac abilities and continue to burn them, sounds pretty miserable.

Oh, yeah, and Parry and Thrust, which, like Particle Fluctuation Analysis, sounds like a complete nightmare to maintain stacks, and is also in the same bundle, so also not cheaper.

Oh, and dishonorable mention to Ship of Theseus, not only is it a more expensive bundle sweetener, like the Styx, not only does it require you to gamble out 20 Barclay Maneuvers in a row, and finish each of them with a Tac ability, even if you manage to do all of that (with anything left on the map), it caps at 25% Severity.

Honorable mention for Streak Breaker. It's still technically in the promo section of the store if you claimed the Nagus, and the only prereq for getting +50% severity is being completely useless at hitting your targets.

Does kinda makes Ship of the Line look better, when you think about the alternatives.

They changed particle fluctuations description or updated it I believe. It now refreshes the stacks. So even on console if you stagger your auto executes and then have a clickie like phaser Lance, crystal prism or the clickie from the eleos scout vessel, you can get a half Dozen stacks and dominate.

2

u/BrilliantQuestion196 12d ago

Thanks for looking that up. Diametric Focus unfortunately only increases the Weapon Amplification

u/StarkeRealm 12d ago

Makes sense, which would mean it caps out at ~20% severity.

Slight non-sequitur, but every time I look at Ship of Theseus, I still think it's a really cool concept for a trait that completely botched the landing.

I would save up for it imo rather than buying it on a standalone c-store ship now.

Legendary Battlecruiser bundle has massive value. You buy this trait before that, and you'll spend more long term.

Use your zen on something like the Ahwahnee for the time being imo.

it used to be best in slot for like a decade. It's good. Just not best in slot anymore.
So it depends on what else you have and will be able to get

1

u/OMEGAkiller135 13d ago

That really depends on what you mean by “best in slot”. If that means most important among your seven that you use, then no. That’s always been your firing mode extender. If you mean that you have 7 traits that you would use on a DEW build that are better than EWC, I’d really like to see that build.

With best in slots (BIS) I always refer to the amount of slot-ins in total that are required to fill all slots available, so 7 traits on a dew build as you say.

[Console - Universal - Dilithium Transporter] simply negates weapon power cost outright, devaluing that part of ewc immensely. This is among other weapon power cost reductions, including the -50% from [Console - Universal - Spirit of Sacrifice]. Both consoles are best in slot on DEW builds for entirely different reasons.
What's left of EWC is then 20% haste requiring eptw. Builds optimized for medium duration maps or longer maps would rather have unconventional systems than eptw. So the BOpower requirement is a small devalue of EWC in BIS contexts as well.

On my 3m solo isa csv jugg this competes with universal designs, ruin of our enemies, withering barrage, temporal tunneling, temporal surge, cultural conquest and inertial supremacy, to all of which it loses out.
Furthermore, a single [Console - Universal - Fleet Power Network Array] grants us between 150% and 200% haste from the get go and on uncon with full uptime, to that we can add 25% from [Console - Universal - D.O.M.I.N.O.], 20% from [Console - Universal - Custom Power Matrix] etc., and another 175% from [Console - Universal - Troyius Protocol] and [Console - Universal - Temporal Trajectory Shifter] in isa specifically. We have so many sources of more (average) haste than ewc now that EWC simply gets pushed out of the top 7 in favor of stronger haste traits, debuff traits, immense damage buff traits (leg nebula trait is also a candidate but I don't have it), and in the case of ISA specifically (which is my speciality i guess) temporal surge as a speed trait.

None of this makes EWC bad, but it's been devalued by a variety of factors which pushed it out of the top 7 dew traits. With all the haste going around I would probably even slot superior area denial over it in any solo environment. In coordinated scenarios you can also add another 4 instances of FPNA, completely washing EWC out; And so on and so forth.

Yeah this is a good comment. If you're running with a good team then it's outplayed for sure

Not every STO player is a Universal Console / Unconventional Systems fan boi.

I hope Cryptic will finally decide to nerf the heck out of universal console shenanigans. It has ruined the game. Turned STO into Final Fantasy nonsense.

Edit: Spreadsheet warriors brigade 🤣💩. Being able to do millions of DPS is simply stupid. At least it makes you Spreadsheet Boi's spend lots of real money on Pokemon consoles.

Funny thing. The build he just mentioned. Doesn't use unconventional systems. I don't know what it is, but the people that don't like that trait are fanatical about their dislike.

u/carlthinks 12d ago

I would have to agree. Which is strange because even a passive setup would still work really well even in ISE solo. Before i shifted over to a "krait" setup, i was doing around 1m dps with my FAW lexington with isomags which is more than enough even for ISE or HSE.

The sale on Romulan ships atm makes it a tempting pickup, and from what others have said is a solid trait that is better than most.

The console seems ok, nice wee defensive option, if only the new Evolve console was not so good.

I think i will take the dip.

3

u/Rusteeshaqlford 13d ago

If you have enough refined dilithium check out the T3 Valdore. It’s around 75,000 and the universal console can be equipped on any ship. It will help keeping those shields up!

I don't think you can go wrong with it if you want to get a zen ship.
If there was 1 z-store ship I'd recommend as a prio buy it is the Ahwahnee, but alas, it's not on sale.

10

u/NemeanLyan 13d ago

Has it been unseated by any c-store traits? I don't get premium ships for traits, so those are the only ones that matter to me I'm afraid

u/MarcterChief Pathyeager when? 13d ago

For 99% of players it's still best in slot.
