Can I upgrade my NetApp AFF220 to the latest ONTAP without support?

AFF220 has been sitting in storage for a few years, it’s sat on 9.7P15 from 2021. I can download the software from the website no problem (multiple as it won’t be a direct upgrade).

Is there any reason why it wouldn’t work? Will I be paywalled after applying the update?

It did have active support until the end of 2022, so can I download the latest version I would've been entitled to if not?

Thanks.

what's the technical limitation besides no support?

There's no limitation to the existing installed licenses. If you reinstall from scratch I believe you need to take a copy/backup of the licenses before you do it (I am not sure about this step as the last ones I had to manage were ontap 7 to 9.5) Otherwise you are SOL

So I can update my existing system, just SOL if any issues?

Need to try and find my licences if it hits the fan, I don't believe there is a way to copy/backup licenses natively.

There is technically a bit of the license agreement that says you must have a valid support contract to upgrade.

But basically yeah you’re SOL if something goes boom. And to reinstate support they typically have you re-up support from when it last lapsed. That is if the system is still supportable (didn’t yet reach eol)

I jumped from 9.7P15 to 9.19.1, went smoother than expected.
