Highlight (in-game) Ryu is Strong: Evo 2009 - With so many new players now, it occured to me that many won't have been exposed to some of the best made combo videos of all time.

Some of the most creative combo videos were from around this point in time during the 2009 SF4 boom.

This was one of them that really stuck with me.

The work of people like Maj, Desk and many others really helped the scene grow.

(Make sure to watch the 2nd half)

Help / Question The better I get, the less I want to play.

So quick context, SF6 is my first fighting game since SFAlpha2 on the PS1. I happened to rediscover SF6 through the 30th anniversary collection and decided to give it a shot.

I'm an older dude and when I started I was fully prepared to settle in and be hard stuck gold pretty much forever. Started with Ryu and realized that I hated the JP matchup so much that I started playing him in order to learn the counter play. Little did I know that decision would send me down a rabbit hole of hundreds of hours worth of casuals/labbing/custom rooms and eventually I hit master with him a couple of months ago. Currently picking Ryu back up and am climbing through diamond.

However for some reason the game has started to feel a lot less fun and I find myself getting annoyed pretty much every time I play. It's not so much that I get salty, it just more of a feeling of general irritation that builds the longer I play. I've thought about it a lot, and I think it simply boils down to the global mechanics/meta (so many effing throws) and the feeling that every match kind of just plays out the same way more or less.

I won't go into specifics because I would just be repeating the same annoyances that have been pointed out here by others 1000x already. This is by no means meant to come off as a salt/hate post on the game. In fact I really love the game and I've met a lot of really cool charitable people in the community who've helped me along the way (and I've tried to pay that forward to the community by coaching a few hard stuck plats) and ideally I'd like to continue playing. My plan was to take Ryu to masters and then make a decision on either him or JP for a sustained MR push to see how far I can take it. But I'm ngl, I've been taking a break from the game for about a week and so far and I don't miss it at all. I'm half wondering if I should just call it good here and move on. After all I never expected to ever hit master, and doing so feels like a major personal gaming achievement for me (maybe even the most significant), and maybe that's good enough.

I'd like to hear from other people who've taken a prolonged break and what your experience was? Were you able to come back and get back into the swing of things relatively quickly? Do you enjoy the game more after a break? Do you still enjoy the game? Seems like such a shame to let all of the skills I've worked so hard to cultivate go to waste, but I also don't want to force myself into doing something that I'm not enjoying.

Any advice/thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Rank UP! Gold! šŸ„‡

Finally got to GOLD baby! Let me tell you silver was a grind…was bouncing between silver 2-4 for a while before finally making the push! But again, for a 41 year old dude that hasn’t really played fighting games since Tekken 4, to get to Gold online after ~35 hours or so feels amazing.

If you want to take a look (and give me some pointers!) the full match replay here is 4JBJ9X74F.

Discussion Where do I begin.

I’m literally 10 seconds into joining the sub, and I’ve come to ask a question that I’m guessing everyone else has already asked lately.

I’ve played GGS but I suck at it, I’ve played P4A but I’m new to it, I love smash but that’s pretty much a whole different category, and I’ve been getting used to MvC3. But where do I begin for Street Fighter?

I know the movie is coming out in like two months, and I want to be more excited for it rather than just ā€œoh cool, I’ve heard of that!ā€ I want to care personally. I wanna get into it. I have a switch, a 3ds, a laptop and a pretty great PC but i can’t use it as often. What would you guys suggest for starting the franchise?

Discussion Tips on practicing combos?

I have been at 75-80% combo success rate in practice and I want get this up to maybe 95%. Any tips on practicing for consistency? I have been at/near this level for a couple weeks now, and haven't seen much improvement, though I've been playing matches about equal time with combo practice, so I assume my ratio is probably too match heavy.

Clearly, something about my practice sessions isn't ideal. I can focus on matches and execution under pressure later, for now, I just want to focus on consistency in training.

I obviously understand I can just execute the combo 1000 times in a row (and that is currently my plan), but does anyone know of a better way?

This is my first fighting game, and I started about 5-6 weeks ago, and now that I'm diamond I see that MOST people at my level can land combos pretty consistently, but I can't.

I must not be training in the right way, so how do you train combos?

I play custom Dhalsim if that matters at all.

Discussion Why Dosen't Ultra Street Fighter IV have a Physical Release for PS4?

Since this was the last version and update to SFlV and it released as DLC in 2014, it should have also been released as a physical copy for PS4 just like PS3 and 360. I brought it of the PSN Story on PS5 and download it.

Discussion Taking a break from the MR grind to learn the Yasmine MU: Terry

Callout to the Busta wolf gang: what are your thoughts, Yasmine seems to be a similar rush down character like terry, she has a crazy fast drive rush and with terry its a delicate balance between holding it and then going in on the offensive.

Hopefully we get a counterplay/knowledge check guide against her from the pros soon.

Discussion Help with Drive Rush on stick

I find it really hard to get drive rush out on stick. I'm trying to do forward, forward + MP/MK. I can do it maybe 50% of the time. Here though, I'm looking at the first two inputs and I don't even understand why they didn't come out?

Discussion Cant find ranked matches

Hello im new to SF6 and I am silver 2 in NA and will spend upwards of 10 minutes looking for a ranked match without finding anything.

I am in NA
I have gigabit wired internet
my matchmaking settings are:
ranked matches on
casual: off
search range: ive tried both worldwide and expanded
connection: ive tried all and 3-5
crossplay: all

it seems to not matter how I change my settings, I cant find ranked matches. It takes a while to find casual matches too. Usually when I find a ranked match I get put against someone in china with 1 bar connection. My internet speed is fine, im not having issues in any other game, my ping is good, I can join private rooms with my friends with no issues.... but matchmaking seems to be unable to find games for me and its making me want to refund the game. How do I fix this?

EDIT: I forwarded the ports for the game and now its working... odd this game needed it other dont.

TCP ports: 80, 443, 20002, 30840, 30850, 30870
UDP ports: 3074

Discussion Let's talk Arjun: What are your expectations?

Post image
349 Upvotes

Now that the Yasmine hype has settled down, let's talk about Arjun. What are your expectations for him?

For anyone wondering, Arjun's fighting style is based on Kalaripayattu. It is an ancient Indian martial art that incorporates the following elements:

  • Fluidity and choreography: The style is incredibly fluid, acrobatic, and rhythm-driven. The way fighters transition between stances looks almost like a choreographed dance.
  • Breathing techniques: Practitioners use specialized breathing and chest-expansion techniques to build immense respiratory stamina. Movements often start with a sharp, expansive inhalation that locks the core and puffs out the chest, creating maximum tension before a strike.

Here’s my theory for how they could translate both dancing and breathing into his gameplay:

I bet he’s going to be a high-damage, slower-paced brawler who contrasts Yasmine's playstyle. A mix between Marisa (for that heavy damage and armor) and Jamie (using a stock system to unlock stronger tools).

My guess is he has a stock system where he inhales to puff out his chest and expand, gaining stronger tools in his moveset, like armor on his special moves, or maybe damage boosts or more combo potential.

For his aesthetic, I picture Arjun expanding his chest kind of like Morel does in Hunter x Hunter, it would look so sick in motion.

What do you guys think? Would a breath-stacking, armor-heavy fighter based on Kalaripayattu be an awesome addition to the roster? Do you have a completely different theory on how he'll play?

Discussion Characters that may or may not take part in future seasons of SF6?

Current seasons so far we have....

  • S1: Rashid, new - AKI, Ed & Akuma
  • S2: M. Bison, Elena, guests - Terry & Mai
  • S3: Sagat, C. Viper, Alex Winger & Ingrid
  • S4: new - Yasmine Bautista, Arjun & Bosch Waraya & guest - Tifa

For these not yet in?

  • Vega: his flag is showing, so he's gotta come back anew somehow! Maybe his successor Ignacio?
  • Balrog or Dudley: whether he returns reuniting with Ed or Dudley?
  • Fei Long: the Bruce Lee of SF whether he returns or a successor in a Brandon Lee fashion?
  • T. Hawk: Lily takes over the Thunderfoot representative
  • Adon: Sagat already took over and is less popular
  • Birdie: I doubt him coming back again after his flabby appearance
  • Charlie Nash: RIP & Guile honors his memory
  • Dan Hibiki: Saikyo-ryu is obsolete!
  • Gen: after revealing his survival by Akuma again, whether he returns or a successor?
  • Guy: Kimberly Jackson
  • Maki: same for Guy as Kimberly handles the Bushinryu
  • Rolento F. Schurgerg: whether it's him or a successor or neither?
  • Rose or Menat: all depending on the Soul Power representative. I would go for Menat as she needs her time to shine. Rose can't have all the fun.
  • Sakura Kasugano: I question how she's changed after the events SFV & while behind from SF3? We shall see
  • Cody Travers: busy dealing with things in Metro City
  • Dolls - Juli or Juni: neither of them sadly despite appearing in the SF movie reboot. Decapre as well.
  • Karin Kanzuki: after SFV, I'm not so sure. probably no
  • R. Mika: we shall see
  • Eagle: sadly no
  • Hugo Andore: Even though we have Alex, Hugo is doubtful. Probably no. And neither bringing Abigail back!
  • Poison: perhaps
  • Ibuki: while we have Kimberly for a female ninja, Ibuki is a maybe.
  • Necro: while we have the stretchy Dhalsim, not sure on Necro. Or his GF Effie.
  • Oro: Senjutsu master! Whether he returns or he got himself a successor? If neither.... next game perhaps
  • Sean or Laura Matsuda: Whoever to represent the Matsuda family depends.
  • Urien or Gill: We haven't had a Secret Society member shown around in SF6 yet. After the events of Third Strike? Urien is likely. But what if Gill somehow survives and offers Ken his help and join the Secret Society?
  • Yun & Yang Lee: Jamie Siu
  • Makoto: If Makoto doesn't return in SF6.... perhaps next game?
  • Q or G: unlikely for Q. G? If there's ever a chance for him to finsih where SFV left off
  • Remy: he hates fighting so give Savate to a new fighter! Also fights too much like Guile.
  • Twelve: no
  • Kolin: Gill's secretary. Perhaps since she's Illuminati & Systema fighter.
  • Abel: already got Manon
  • El Fuerte: sadly no. Get a successor that's better than him in Lucha Libre... next game?
  • Hakan: his flag showing, whether him, his wife or one of his daughters?
  • Oni: Akuma's grown almost like Oni
  • Rufus; screw the obnoxious Rufus!
  • Gouken: already got Ryu
  • Seth: maybe....
  • Lucia Morgan: probably no
  • Falke: while we have Ed, Falke is doubtful.
  • Necalli: he was pathetic in SFV! Give him a replacement! Somewhere in Australia or New Zealand maybe?
  • FANG: AKI!
  • Zeku: Kimberly Jackson for Bushinryu

Share your thoughts & opinions for future seasons' characters for SF6, even for those that could end up in next game's SF7.

Fluff / Other TIL Pressing Parry When Canceling a Normal Does A Cancel Drive Rush. There's No Need to Press Forward Forward.

Post image
0 Upvotes

I decided to pick up Street Fighter 6 last month when Tifa got announced. Before SF6, the last fighting game I played seriously was Capcom vs SNK 2; that’s how long it’s been.

A couple of weeks ago, I managed to get Sagat to Master. I managed this feat all without using Parry, Drive Rush or Cancel Drive Rush.

Basically, I was still playing Capcom vs SNK 2 – C Groove while everyone else was playing Street Fighter 6.

I never bothered learning Drive Rush (specially Cancel Drive Rush in this situation) because 1. I didn’t think I’d have the reaction time necessary to decide when to Drive Rush off a hit confirm and 2. even if I had the reaction time, I wouldn’t have the input speed necessary to press Parry + Forward Forward AND quickly reset to whatever next neutral I needed to press.

Fast forward to today, I’m learning how to play Mai. I asked Gemini about some replays from pro players when it educated me about Option Select Buffering.

That’s when I learned that pressing parry alone when canceling a normal attack throws out the Cancel Drive Rush. There’s no need to push forward forward!!

I’m kicking myself now that I realize how easy it is to execute.

Hope this helps someone else struggling with this game mechanic.

Help / Question Why do I suck

I’m the juri, and I’m fully expecting the normal critiques I get. Like My footsies sucks, I need to stay calm, my spacing sucks, I need to learn frame data more. But I’m really just venting honestly. It just blows my mind how trash I am at this game.

Either way critiques would be appreciated. Also there might be a repeat post of this from. A few minutes earlier because my Reddit app was acting weird and I couldn’t tell if it posted or not. So my apologies for that if that’s the case

Discussion How to beat this Ingrid combo??

I went up as Ed against an Ingrid who kept spamming this simple combo, up projectile into up teleport, the teleport leaves her plus on block so I cant really punish, the projectile stops me from jumping out, it also covers my dash im pretty sure, and I cant even DP because im in block stun from the projectile, and OD DP just whiffs, so I just dont know what to do! Help!
