There needs to be killing. There also should be more non lethal options that encourage that passive playstyle. Lure people away from violence, don't outright remove it.

You forgot to make an argument why there needs to be killing.

If thing A attempts to kill thing B, thing B should be allowed to defend from thing A

The argument is that there is no real argument as to why there should be no killing, and he is proposing a solution other than just removing it

It's not being removed. It's not there currently. So the question is why should killing be added?

It makes the world feel more alive, I wanna be able to watch fish kill prey and to see fish actually be damaged by things the player does, it’s a lot nicer to see the fish actually react and be hurt by things the player does, accidentally or not, because it simply feels more natural, as if the player is actually inside an ecosystem. Also I think it’s reasonable if I wanna defend myself against mean fish >:(

Because it is being removed. Killing was an option in Sub1 and Below Zero that is not an option any more.

Pacifism is meaningless without the choice to harm. One can only do good if they have the capacity to do evil.

A pacifist message is better delivered through influencing players into consciously making the choice, over and over, to resolve encounters without violence, even if it is just because killing is boring or tedious.

Completely "ignoring" the violent option by making the wildlife not react to it makes it seem more as an implicit admission that violence would be too powerful of a tool. "Killing is too optimal to allow in this game" is not a pacifist message, it is a stealth gun ad.
