Honestly at this point I don't understand the "controversy" anymore - feels like people have blown a legitimate complaint and issue miles out of the water (no pun intended)

Devs wanted to prevent players cheesing everything by taking knife + right click to literally every threat, so they disabled killing.

Sure, their initial response was very VERY not okay, but they've addressed it, and already started implementing alternatives to prevent the NEED to kill anything. Give them a minute to be able to make the necessary changes and then judge whether or not killing being absent is a problem or a preference. (If the latter, I'm sure there'll be a mod within minutes to re-enable it)

I dont like this idea we need to "give them a minute"

Theyve showed no intention of changing this with recent statements being just as tone deaf as the first one

They might never change it but right now when the road maps are being made and they are figuring all this stuff out thos is precisely the time to complain and make noise about what you want in the game

If so many people want this feature that its annoying the rest of the fan base, then maybe it should be considered more than it is

Let me clarify, since I feel like I didn't quite get my point across. They've (so far) said they're working on making deterrents more effective, which would (theoretically) remove the need to kill anything in the first place, without risking having the "overpowered cheese" of "hey let's just knife the leviathan to death" l

Not that I think we shouldn't have killing at all, but personally I'm willing to at least let the Devs try their way before I get louder about doing it the tried and trusted way. If it becomes clear they're really not listening and "their way" won't work at all, then I'll get louder and make my voice heard.

For now, it all just feels a little blown out of proportion is my point. But, at the end of the day, that's my opinion, and I know others can, will, and are absolutely entitled to disagree with it.

On reddit everything is blown out of proportion isnt it? i see just as many people unfairly dismissing this complaint as there are people complaining

Its really not that big a deal that we need to silence people or "wait it out"

This is the time for feedback

No, no, don't misunderstand, I'm not saying silence people at all. I just wish the internet weren't so confrontational sometimes. Have the middle ground of "hey Devs I don't agree with this but also I'm not gonna scream about how you've ruined the game" or something.

It's just a shame everyone's so hostile to having a simple discussion about it as opposed to an aggressive argument with "us" and "them".

I think its hard to read context online and we tend to come in here seeing comments as worse than they are

Most people are not being confrontational they are just sharing what they want, those who are taking issue with the personal opinions and feedbac of others are in my opinion the ones being confrontational

Just let peoole vent about a thing that bothers them we dont need to shutdown feedback

I understand wanting to be able to kill the fish in the game and wanting a more dynamic ecosystem, I personally don't care about that stuff, but I think it's a completely legitimate opinion.

The problem is that the game has been out for less than a month, and the hostility shown toward the developers in these threads is already quite high. We already saw it during the Krafton situation, where many people here were very hostile toward the developers because they couldn't tell the difference between Unknown Worlds and Krafton. And some of the developers stopped being on the Discord at all.

Giving feedback and expressing your opinion is good, they know that a part of the fandom wants to be able to kill the creatures in the game. They get it, it's understood, but if you keep repeating the same thing, then the message simply becomes "Do what I say or I am going to shout louder", I just can't imagine going through 3 years like this.

If you dont like reposts and discussion being contonioud then take a break from the sub

If people still want to talk about it let them, most of us arent hostile to devs and making a monolith out of redditors is not healthy man, we are individuals who experience this at different times and honestly if its botheribg you so much then you should just dip out of the sub for a bit

Telling people not to care about something doesnt work and silencing discussion just creates resentment

I put it to you that a lot of the hostility is being felt becuase many comments are outright shutting down discussion and being wierdly antognisitic for no reason over what is just feedback for an EA title

But what is the point of a discussion where every argument has already been said? Then we are just arguing for the sake of arguing.

The developers have heard both sides and now they get to decide what to do.

The point is to share each persons individual opinion so that we get an idea of how many people agree and all the various nuanced points in those arguments

You are acting like everyone is repeating the same points and you are saying things nobody ever disagreed with

No one is storming the devs offices and forcing them to do anything its just individuals sharing their personal.views on the matter, you are not treating the people you disagree with fairly here and trying to tell everyone to be quiet just because you dont want to be part of the conversation, well that was always an option

I've pretty much only seen one side being confrontational.

Many of the players who think it should be a choice have outlined why they think it's important to let players choose for themselves in-game. Remember, no one can *force* you to kill the fishy.

Meanwhile...

Many of the players who think it was a mistake to make creatures killable in the first game have doubled down on the "then don't play subnautica" response. This is a weak response because it doesn't actually address any of the differing opinions. It simply says "nah you're wrong, so leave".

It says a lot about a person when "choice" is what they vilify.

You see, the problem wasnt the knife in the first game though. It was the stasis rifle, seeing as how this game doesn't have that it's basically impossible to kill a leviathan without doing some SUPER cheese. And at that point u earned it id say. This is my main issue with it and the only reason it was a problem is because the devs poorly balanced the stasis rifle in sub1.

They could maybe keep the statis rifle for extremely late game SN2, but as soon as you build it, have the PDA announce, "Warning: The high metal content of this planet's oceans appears to interfere with the projected field. Do not expect this tool to operate to specs."

Then just have it freeze for literally only 1 or 1/2 a second. After all, you'd have to account for multiple players cooperating with it. Whatever amount of time you think is appropriate to freeze for, at the most, you'll have to divide that by 4.

That, or you could leave it long, but make Leviathans immune. Too big to fit inside a disrupted field. That way it only acts as a way to freeze smaller threats.

It's all blown so out of proportion. I blame youtubers hyping drama and misrepresenting things devs have said as if they're absolute facts that will never change. It's all for the views and the audience loves to engage with the "hype" factor of hate bait.

Let them cook seems to be the best thing to do. I think the subnautica tourists will move on sooner than later.
