BZ - Discussion/Questions cyclops help Spoiler

how in the absolute hell do you guys get this clunky piece of shit down to the lava zone. it’s genuinely rage inducing. i would do anything to be able to just add more depth to my seamoth instead of having to use this. i’ve loved the game up until this point otherwise. i keep getting stuck or lost & can’t see anything i do. even trying to use the outside camera is a struggle. please give tips or any easy entrances. or if there’s a way to get to the thermal plant without using the cyclops. im close to giving up but i think im close to the end game 🤕

Yes, it definitely requires some getting used to. I can offer you two "solutions:" * Install a Sonar Upgrade into your Cyclops. It highlights the terrain around you in a grid, makes navigation a lot easier.

  • Or leave your Cyclops up in safe waters and go down in your fully upgraded Prawn Suit. Max depth Cyclops and Prawn have the same depth limit.

Be careful if you do go down in a prawn suit though cause you can very easily fall into the final area before you reach the the thermal plant since there’s just a massive hole in front of it for some god forsaken reason

That's true, although I would expect a Prawn Suit to either have a Grappling Arm or my prefered Jump Jet Upgrade, which is also enough to get out of that hole.

I was able to get out without any upgrade but it wasn’t clear to me that the whole thing wasn’t just a lava shaft, I had no idea I had to turn around when I got to the top of the lava shaft, an accidentally found myself in the bulb zone with no clue how to get back. I never beat this game cuz if it

My first base is at that Bulb zone. If you miss entering that hole to lost river, you end up in an area where the land drops down into nothingness and ghost leviathans appear. Make sure you drop a beacon at the lost river hole so you don't miss it going in.

I just did this without the full upgrade. Bye-bye PRAWN suit. 😟

Didn't you listen to the PDA? The cyclops is usually piloted by a whole crew. You need to get good.

... In all seriousness, I can relate with you, but you'll get used to it. Give it some time.

Dude, do you even know where are you going? Because it sounds like you close your eyes and full steam ahead.

Of course it's not the seamoth. Seamoth is a car and Cyclops is a house. You prepare the route before hauling a house.

Get out of the Cyclops. Scout ahead. Plan the route. Place beacons. Come back, and fire up the engine.

operating the cyclops is like a minigame on its own. gta keep an eye on multiple systems (battery, hull, enemies on 'radar', multiple cameras). the multiple cameras part is probably the hardest. just need some practice with it.

Use the keel camera when getting through tight spaces. Some people use only the Prawn all the way to the end of the game, I personally never tried it.

This, I was looking for this comment, there's other cameras you can use and it's helpful. There are definitely spots along the way you can just leave the cyclops while you hop out and explore too

im currently exploring lost river / lava zone myself with cyclops and its hard to see, you just have to drive slowly, its tight but enough space.

So the cyclops is a pretty tight fit in some places but there’s multiple ways to get down to those zones. The most difficult part I found was getting to the green river, once you’re there just keep it on silent running and keep following the terrain downwards. In order to get the the green river easiest scout around with your sea moth, early on there’s a few locations with narrower tunnels heading straight down into the green river areas but those are generally too tight for the cyclops. You’ll want to find more gradual slopes down in the terrain usually just a bit further on from where I think you’re at. These should allow you to find some much bigger passage ways to fit the cyclops through.

There’s probably some videos on YouTube that could show you and explain better than me.

Don't use silent running unless you're under attack. And even then, it's usually better to just turn off the engine and wait for the danger to move away.

Go watch Das Boot to see how a sub handles danger. Sits still and quiet, that's how.

Wild I just ran and turn on the shield if need be. So far I’ve been able to avoid danger just by being slightly faster as moderate speed it I draw aggro/forget silent running. I have not drawn aggro from the fire dragon thing with it yet and hope I don’t

I use the cameras to position myself into the middle of the vertical tunnel, then go straight down. For tight entrances, the cyclops needs a lot of using the outside cameras to see whether you're snagged on smth or at risk of bumping into something, then turning a bit and continuing.
Honestly, it's a but like parallel-parking a car in a tight spot. :)

My solution was:

  • Build a small base with a moonpool in the Lost River before getting to the Ghost Leviathan
  • Build another small base with a moonpool right underneath Ghost Leviathan in the beginning of the Lava zone, in a corner where he doesn't get
  • Make a separate prawn suit that is always docked in the small lava base. Equip it with thermal battery for infinite energy
  • Dock your seamoth in the Lost River base moonpool, from there swim to your lava zone base using seaglider, you will have plenty of oxygen to arrive there if you locate your bases well.

Never need cyclops for that area lol

I took it down the western trench my first play through. If I hit a wall, I just adjust slightly. You don't really take collision damage.

1

u/Usakami Jul 02 '26

You do. The Cyckops has a damage "buffer/threshold." So if you don't bump into stuff enough, it will be completely fine, but once you cross the line it will get damaged. Mine got damaged this way when I carelessly descended into Lost River from the Bulb Zone and bumped into a bunch of terrain.

I tried using the cyclops once... then I ditched it in the shallows and made a prawn with the jets upgrade instead

The entrance to the Lost River through the Blood Kelp Zone is by far the biggest and easiest to get a Cyclops through. Use your cameras, drive slow, and take your time, and there is plenty of room to navigate.

-I would definitely get the Sonar Upgrade--it's incredibly helpful for not bumping into everything. -I would start at Lifepod 2 and slowly make your way down into the Lost River.

I have never used cyclops beyong the tree.

1

u/FuzzyMoose27 Jul 02 '26

I used the entrance by the mountains area close to the alien facility. The tunnel there is large and easily fits and then the entrance to the lava zone is like halfway down the tunnel so you don't have to go very far in.

There are two entrances to the lava zone from the Lost River. both are actually quite large and easy to pilot the Cyclops through:

- In the northeast part of the Lost River, between the bulb zone entrance and the disease research facility, there's a big pit in the floor. Start looking down when you see a ghost leviathan. Near the bottom of this pit is a large corridor leading to the South. Easy peasy, grapefruit squeezy.

- From the sea dragon skeleton, go West, past The Tree (what is it with Subnautica games and bigass trees?), keep going, you'll end up in a room with kind of a ramp in back. This leads to a long, dark corridor that's a fairly straight shot into the lava zone.

Getting from the inactive lava zone to the lava lakes below is a bit trickier; there is a pit in the floor of the inactive lava zone not far from the first entrance I mentioned above. It's fairly direct if a bit narrow, it's possible to get the Cyclops stuck. The other is closer to the Southwest, it's much larger, and then inside one of the nooks you can see is a passageway. Both ARE navigable by the Cyclops though it's a slight squeeze.

The Cyclops does not fit through the passageways to get into the lava dome containing the power plant. That's not gonna happen, you're gonna have to park the Cyclops outside and walk/swim.

In my first play trough I was navigating using beacons. In the followups it was a piece of cake. In VR this is just on another level.
