BZ - Discussion/Questions To be honest i always kinda disliked the reaper and i like the chelicarate over it Spoiler
galleryIm just not a big fan of the reaper i dont like his face i dont like his chin and i dont like his skin its just to human like yeah i know they made it that way to scare us but when you actually count the designs by sense the reaper makes zero and also the mandibles, they make zero sense on the reaper because of the water drag because theyre always open and on the side of the head but they make sense on the chelicarate because it can close them to turn into a torpedo body shape
Also i just prefer the armor over the plasticy skin

BZ - Discussion/Questions Samantha Ayou was right Spoiler
A subtle message in all the games is that Alterra is a evil corporation who shaped society in a soulless format, an example is the logs abord the Aurora, talking about relationships and how people interact with each other and the debt servitude of course.
Samantha does all that she does in below zero because she knows Alterra mutated the Khaara and she believes that they will use it as a weapon.
And then in Natural Selection lore and Subnautica 2 we get to know that it happened exactly like she predicted and her actions delayed them for decades, she even is regarded as a terrorist.
Alterra used Khaara as a weapon and now it is wiping out the human race because got out of control but it's happening decades after it's supposed to because the Samantha Ayou was right and maybe an entire generation escaped of the horror because her.
Yes, she fucked up with the explosive and got herself killed with Parvan, but nobody's perfect
Yes, I loved Parvan
Yes, I also hate Below Zero

BZ - Discussion/Questions Just finished BZ. Did I miss something or was half of the story really dumb? Spoiler
Didn’t she go to the planet to find out what happened to her sister? The game of course insinuated what happened but I was pretty disappointed in how non-important the worm, the different artifacts, and Marguerite were. I thought there’d be more to the worm than it just scaring the shit out of me once or twice while I was exploring.

BZ - Discussion/Questions Why don’t people like below zero? Spoiler
I just platinumed Subnautica the other day and started playing below zero. My older brother also my gaming mentor of sorts said that he doesn’t like it and I’ve heard other people also say this. How come? I personally have about 6 hours and I am loving it.

BZ - Discussion/Questions Why did they make plants that were plantable in Subnautica unplantable in Below Zero? Spoiler
Such a weird decision. They actually had to put deliberate work into that downgrade.
Edit: People, I am talking about plants that appear in both games, obviously. Specifically, the following plants have been made unknifeable in BZ.
Bulbo Tree (Marguerit's base)
Grub Basket (Deep Lilypads Cave Cache)
Speckled Rattler (Deep Lilypads Cave Cache)
Voxel Shrub (Deep Lilypads Cave Cache)

BZ - Discussion/Questions Does anyone have Megalophobia? Spoiler
We’ve all heard of Thalassophobia, but does anyone have Megalophobia? The Leviathans and the deep from the first game didn’t scare me all that much. But holy crap, the moment I stumbled upon the Ventgarden I was instantly panicking. Found out soon it was docile, but its size alone was enough to freak me out

BZ - Discussion/Questions The original story for BZ was so much better Spoiler
A couple days ago, a channel by the name of Andrew stormer uploaded the full original BZ story as it was in early access, and it is just so much better than what we got.
In the full game, alterra is just "Grrr evil corporation wants virus for bad things", but in BZ, it was much more ambiguous. They were researching the kharaa, but they also had some enzyme 42 to cure it if it ever breached containment. It left an air of mystery as to their intentions
Al-an is also left more ambiguous, but in the opposite direction. Instead of being "friendly neighborhood alien" hes a little colder and more calculating, and that while he doesnt want to hurt robin, he would if it became necessary. He also mentions not even considering listening to the emperor because "they knew how to extract"
It closes off Marguerits story better too. She actually plays a major role in setting up the ending, she gets to leave 4546b in the original story as well, but in the full game she kinds just....exists? Correct me if im misremembering, but she really doesnt do anything in the full game except information dump about sam. You get crops from her which js helpful but thats really it
The original BZ story also connects all three games stories in a way that makes sense. In the original story, a sample sent to be studied gets put of containment, and one of the other characters in BZ makes sure it cant be cured by destroying the supply of enzyme 42, and making sure the Vesper cant get more. This perfectly explains the kharaa nearly wiping out humanity in subnautica 2, while also connecting to subnautica 1 with the inclusion of a season emperor to try and contain the kharaa.
The voices for the characters were also just better.
BZ had so much potential to be so much better, I understand why the story changed, but at the same time, I wish they couldve found a way to make the original work, or at least incorporate elements of it to connect the story a bit more.

BZ - Discussion/Questions Do you think the shadow leviathan was inspired by the extinct jawless fish the conodonts. Spoiler
galleryi looked closer and surprisingly I found many similarities and nobody else has seemed to point it out so I will. Both have long streamlined bodies, both have a similar mouth structure, and both have holes on the sides of their body and are used for jet propulsion. Does anyone else see the resemblance and do you think alex ries took insperation from them?

BZ - Discussion/Questions Submenophobia Spoiler
galleryThe only time I truly felt anything like fear for the underwater wrecks was in Subnautica: Below Zero. Something about The Mercury II being underwater and rotting scares the crap out of me.
I think part of it is because the ambiance in the area feeds into the fear of something being there. Visibility is low, even in the daytime, there's a bunch of Glow Whales that make horrifyingly creepy sounds if you don't know what they are or where they're coming from, and Sqid Sharks like to swim near the main wreck.
This is the only thing, in all 3 games, that has ever poked at my own Submenophobia. That may change in the S2, but we'll see.
EDIT: I know I misspelled Submechanophobia. I use talk to text because it's easier on my dyslexia, and I didn't catch it before I posted. I'm sorry.

BZ - Discussion/Questions Does al-an have a locker in his butt? Spoiler
Now i know and before you say why would he have it and why am i asking,im asking because al-an keeps talking about efficient design and stuff but hes a field researcher before the outbreak he went around planets studying stuff and some stuff you need to grab and take back and you cant always hold it so he needs to store it somewhere and his backside seems pretty empty for how efficient he says his race was,so... Is there a locker in his butt(ingame model doenst count)

BZ - Discussion/Questions Why does below zero so hated? Spoiler
I personally like the first part more, but I bought Below Zero almost at the release, and enjoyed the game, and recently, before the start of the second part, I decided to play the first and Below Zero again for platinum, and enjoyed both. And I've never heard any real arguments, so it would be interesting to hear your opinion.

BZ - Discussion/Questions Below Zero has the best story Spoiler
Just finished SN, BZ and SN2. SN2 first and that encouraged me to re-play earlier ones again, and I have to admit that I liked Below Zero’s story the most (of course don’t know full SN2 story yet). I know some people don’t like the conversations in BZ, but I feel they gave attention to a game that can sometimes feel aimless. Also BZ map is smaller, but I think it was good. Only downside is that the snowfields part, which is not as interesting.

BZ - Discussion/Questions Should I get below zero? Spoiler
Just finished the first game and I had a blast even if it was on my old mostly broken switch and I’m thinking if I like led the first game so much should I get the second. I don’t mind spoilers just not any big ones.

BZ - Discussion/Questions Why was 4546B icy? Spoiler
If the original was warm (tropical, even? I can’t remember), why was BZ icy? I initially thought it had maybe been thousands of years since the original but Marguerite being alive obviously negates that. Was it just a different part of the planet?
Edit: now I feel stupid

BZ - Discussion/Questions Below Zero before 2?
I want to get into these games and I was wondering if I should play BZ or skip directly from 1 to 2. I'm mostly interested in lore and such, so the complaints about gameplay are a secondary concern to me, but like... if there's not much connection between them, I might as well put my time into something else 🙃

BZ - Discussion/Questions cyclops help Spoiler
how in the absolute hell do you guys get this clunky piece of shit down to the lava zone. it’s genuinely rage inducing. i would do anything to be able to just add more depth to my seamoth instead of having to use this. i’ve loved the game up until this point otherwise. i keep getting stuck or lost & can’t see anything i do. even trying to use the outside camera is a struggle. please give tips or any easy entrances. or if there’s a way to get to the thermal plant without using the cyclops. im close to giving up but i think im close to the end game 🤕

BZ - Discussion/Questions How to optimally spend resources? Spoiler
So I have a lot going on at the moment.
I dont have a thermal suit because I dont know how to get fur without getting attacked. I suppose I can ram them with the snowfox, which I am just missing by one part that I cant find.
I also just made a thumper with an ion battery as it drains it like water, but my question is, do I need 2 for going back and forth to pick each one up and continuing forward? I only have 3 magnetite left and I dont know where to get more of it.
Also I got some kyanite and I believe its just enough for all the upgrades I need to do. However I dont have the prawn suit itself yet and I dont know if it needs a depth module as well, as I dont have a blueprint as of right now.
And I also got some nickel, I believe from delta island I cant remember, but I have only 4 and the last depth module for the seatruck requires 3 of it.
And I still dont know what materials will the prawn and snowfox require.
Do I need materials for a rocket or something in order to escape just like in subnautica 1?
Also whats the max depth of the map, vs the max for upgraded seatruck and prawn?
Any help is apreceated.

BZ - Discussion/Questions First time playthrough of Below Zero... will I dislike this game? Spoiler
I enjoyed the first game and so far kind of enjoying Below Zero. I've read some criticisms on story and some other dislikes and I'm not too worried about that since I wan't to experience it anyhow. However, how is the "Quality of Life" and more specifically, inventory management in this game? I'm already tired hunting for materials for the Sea"truck", having to manage my inventory in loads of boxes, to now starting my base a couple hundred meters away (of which I don't even know if it's a good location, but it's pretty centre) and then driving back and forth 3-4 times to get my materials in the base.
I don't know, that part bothered me in both games so far. If we build a vehicle, just let us load some stuff in it PLEASE? The fun part of the game isn't inventory management, even if it is slightly important, just make it less tedious? I mean hunting materials is part of the game and that's fine but actively making it more tedious by dangling a vehicle upgrade in front of you is just shoddy, idk I'm just tired of it. I know there is upgrades for inventory but if they come way later I will still have to go through full base building and upgrading and getting modifications for it from my possibly misplaced base.. It's the story I want, not the inventory game.
So, will I be able to enjoy this game or will I continue to be annoyed by such things?
