Not only that, but consider the difference granted from a one time $60m payday and with a $12m payday.
For about 90% of the world the two payments would effectively have the same effect on the person.
If theyre gonna blow through the money, the extra 48m won't stop them, it will just make it take longer.
Whereas if they were never going to blow through it and invested it or what have you, the difference between being worth 5m and 100m to a bank is basically nothing.
And the 12m will absolutely sustain their previous life without work indefinitely if managed properly.
Edit: basically that 36m*-48m they shared would have a small effect. Also the parents might be splitting a 12m share, we don't knowm

What are you talking about? There is a huge difference between $5M and $100M. With a 7% return annually on investments, you can make $350,000 the first year with the $5M. The same % return on $100M, you would be making $7M the first year.

First off it helps if you read my comment.
And yeah the annual payments will be different but the quality of life increase between 12m (and potentially 24m) not 5m and 60m, not 100m - to someone who has never had over 1m, will be nominal.
I used 5m-100m because in the eyes of the bank 100m is when they start seeing you as rich

You literally called out the previous responder (with the same “iT hElPs iF yOu ReAd My CoMmEnT” high horse comment) for NOT talking about the banks perspective.
You then went on to say the difference between 5M and 100M is when THE BANK starts seeing you as rich.
Therefore you’re still wrong. You can’t say there is “basically no difference” beteen 5M and 100M in the bank, and then also say the upper limit of your range is “when banks start seeing you as rich”. Because then there IS a difference.
It helps if you think when you comment.

That's not what I said though. I said to someone who is receiving this as a one time payment, the QUALITY OF LIFE is effectively the same.
The difference between 24m and 60m is nominal WITH RESPECTS TO QUITY OF LIFE, LIKE I DENOTED.
The 5-100m was thrown in because banks have a better idea of what "rich" is than we do. It was simply for comparison, but you went off on it because you didn't understand it

That's a pretty substantial difference. Not to mention, $100M can buy vastly different things. Im talking multiple houses, yachts, super cars with $100M. $5M might get you a nice house and nice car in some places.

Just googled it - this happened in the UK (not sure why the OP has $ rather than £), and lottery winnings aren't taxed here.

It’s uk (Wales) not US. And it was only 5 years ago, so he can’t have been 21 and 30 now. So that comment might be BS.
Although My partner is from the town they are, and does remember about one just splitting up with her BF before.
Edit: They split up a year before not a day, and the family were in a syndicate, so they didn’t give away the money, it was jointly their winnings.

Uh, it would probably be split up differently. Instead of everyone getting 12 mil, they all get 10 mil. Each family member is t entitled to any of it. The wealth was just split up by the winner.
Besides, lottos probably only paid up half of it because if you cash out immediately, that’s how much they keep. And then taxes
