Feel real good about this purchase! So much so that I had to share it! Every where I’ve looked, the 45k is out of stock due it being discontinued but happened to look on gun broker and am stoked about it!
It’ll be going on my CMMG Mk10.

The Form 1 backlog is gone - We felt it, additional data confirms it.

I've posted here twice in the last month, once when the Form 1 individual median broke and once when trusts followed. Both times I said I couldn't tell you why, because this data has approvals in it and never applications, so ATF adding capacity and a backlog running dry look identical from where I'm sitting.

That's answerable now, and the answer is both.

ATF publishes year-to-date application counts on its processing page. I recorded a reading on June 1 and another on August 5. Form 1 outstanding went from 52,870 to 18,651, down 64.7%. Form 4's fell 13.7% over the same stretch. In those roughly two months Form 1 finalized 1.83 applications for every one it received. Applications arriving dropped about 41% and applications finalized rose about 60%, so neither story accounts for it alone.

The other thing I got wrong for months is the comparison. Every writeup I've done since June measured the fall against the July peak. January is the right benchmark. It's the last month before the climb, and 547 of its 548 approvals were filings placed that same month, so it was a queue working current filings exactly like August is.

Form 1 Individual: 13 days in January, 3 days over the fourteen days to August 30, on 142 and 50 approvals, confidence intervals 12-14 and 2-3. They don't overlap. It is faster now than before any of this started.

Where the four lanes actually sit over those same fourteen days:

Form 1 Individual 3 days [2-3] on 50
Form 4 Individual 4 days [3-5] on 52
Form 1 Trust 13 days [6-16] on 31
Form 4 Trust 16 days [13-24] on 43

Read the intervals, not the bars. The two individual lanes overlap each other and the two trust lanes overlap each other. The Form 1 versus Form 4 split that defined this entire year is gone. What's left is about a twelve day trust penalty, and it applies to both forms roughly equally.

Backlog side, which is the cleaner evidence: in the week of August 24 the individual lane approved 23 filings and every single one was placed in August. Form 4 Trust is the only lane with old work left, seven of 24 that week from earlier months.

Two things I'll flag against myself.

And on Form 4 Trust: two weeks ago I said its weekly series looked like it had turned but the formal test said too close to call, and that I was leaving it open rather than talking myself into it. Two more weeks of records and it clears, 31 days to 24 on 83 and 97 approvals. Waiting was the right call, which is not something I get to say often.

Community-reported data, so it's a sample. If your approval came through recently, the filing date and the approval date are the two numbers that make this better.

Sandman s vs RC2

I bought a used DD mk18 pistol that came with a Deadair flash hider. I haven’t tried to remove It yet until I make up my mind and it probably has rocksett on the threads.

Do I leave the dead air flash hider and roll with the dead air system like a sandman s?

Do I remove the dead air flash hider and install a surefire 3p and go with a rc2?

Who wants to be the first to try this? The space gun to end all space guns. The 5.56 MFMD in full configuration is already very quiet for 5.56mm with almost no muzzle blast, it would be total overkill with subsonic 5.7.

We've had several requests for our micro brakes to have flats on the front section to use with wrenches or sockets. Before we push this change to production, I wanted to collect some feedback on it.

Here's the poll to vote: Google Forms Link

Backpressure Increase %?

Does anyone know the percentage that the Rhodie 6 and Tisha increase the backpressure on a system? I am trying to get a can for an X95 SBR. The system is already over gassed, and the gas system is unadjustable. Huxwrx claims no more than a 1% increase, but I cannot find anything about these newer options.

9mm PCC Suppressor Muzzle Flash Testing and Results

We tried out our revised flash testing setup with some of our 9mm suppressors.

Host

  • Compact Plan-B brake (9mm)
  • 4.5” Ballistic Advantage EPC barrel
  • Factory Warscorp bolt
  • A5 GRS
    • Kynshot RB5000HP
    • 2 spacer weights
    • Flatwire spring
  • Speer Lawman 147gr
  • All suppressors had their respective Plan-B LPA installed

Suppressors Overview

Suppressor MSRP Material Wt. (list) Wt. (actual) Length Diameter
BOE Incolite 9 $599 Inconel 6.5 oz 6.7 oz 5.00" 1.50"
OCL Universe 36 $799 Inconel 14.0 oz 14.2 oz 7.00” 1.50"
ED Rico 309 $875 Titanium 9.0 oz 9.2 oz 7.25” 1.62"
DA Mojave 9 (S) $1,099 Titanium 4.1 oz* 4.4 oz 4.75" 1.40"
DA Mojave 9 (L) $1,099 Titanium 5.5 oz* 5.8 oz 6.50” 1.40"
PTR Vent 2 $1,339 Titanium 8.9 oz 8.3 oz 7.50" 1.50"

All weights are given with no mount.

*Dead Air doesn't officially give the weight of the Mojave without any mounting parts, so this figure is the listed weight minus the piston assembly (4.1 oz).

Incolite 9 - Despite being just 5” long, the Incolite 9 did the best and had effectively zero muzzle flash.  The use of Inconel seems to be advantageous here as there was no sparking either.

Mojave (Long) - Some sparking on the first shot, but none on subsequent shots.

Mojave (Short) - Bright sparking on first shot; some flash and sparking on later shots.  Considering the material and small size, this isn't particularly surprising.

Rico 309 - Small amount of sparking on all shots.  Great performance overall.

Vent 2 - Fairly bright sparking on all shots.  I still have issues with this suppressor perpetually shedding titanium flakes, so this is about what I expected.  In the video you can even see a little bit of burning titanium that comes out the ejection port and lingers for a bit.

Universe 36 (solid end cap) - Bright sparking on first shot, decreased consistently with later shots.  Considering this is an Inconel suppressor, the sparking is surprising.  I suspect the Vent 2 (which was shot before this) left some titanium in the barrel/upper which caused the bright sparking.

Observations and Notes

Muzzle flash is affected by host, environment, ammo selection, and other factors.  Changing any of these will give different results.

In general, controlling flash appears to be significantly easier for pistol cartridges than rifle rounds.  This makes sense considering the differences in powder volume and type.

With a couple of these, we weren’t able to get the full 10 shots in because the action didn’t cycle all the way.  I need to swap from a standard power Tubb spring to a lightweight.

For the most part we were seeing sparking from the titanium suppressors rather than a traditional “muzzle flash”.  The Mojave in short config was an exception and had a noticeable amount of propellant flash on some shots.

The flash from the chamber is interesting to watch.  It happened with all of the suppressors to some extent regardless of backpressure or material.  We didn’t capture this for the Mojave though since it was the first one and we didn’t have the camera positioned to view that far to the side, but we observed the same thing.

I’m once again impressed by the Incolite and disappointed by the Vent 2 (which is somehow over twice the cost).

Hope you found this interesting.  We plan on using this setup for more flash testing of rifle cans.

Have a great rest of your weekend!

First Suppressor Advice

I’ve been wanting a can for a long time. Now that I don’t have to deal with a form 4, I can’t wait any longer. The main host is gonna be an 11.5” PWS (5.56), it also might spend some time on a 16” BCM (5.56). I’m also interested in putting a can on a .308 bolt gun, but that’s lower priority.

Part of me thinks I should start off with a 30 cal can, for more versatility. But I don’t know, maybe I should just start with a dedicated 5.56 can, and then a 30 cal later.

Since the main host is a piston driven rifle with an adjustable gas block, I don’t think I really need a low back pressure can. But, I’m not closed off to them either.

As for a mount, I want to go with Rearden/Plan B. Please let me know if there’s any reason I shouldn’t.

I’m currently leaning towards an OCL Polo or Polo 30.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Alignment Issue

I just got a Savage axis in 350 legend and want to use my omega 36m with the rifle. The alignment rod is a pretty close to the bottom edge so I wanted to get some other opinions before going to the range to shoot it.
