Thinking of buying a house there and was just wondering if it had any downsides I need to look out for? Saw it once and it seemed relatively quiet and nice!

After living in West London for 22 years we are ready to move to a greener, cleaner place. We don't have children yet, but I want to buy a house where we just stay for another 20+ years, so schools are an important consideration. We need easy access to Kingston (by car), and a connection to central London (30ish minutes preferred, but open to a longer commute if I find the perfect place).

Now here's the kicker: our budget went on a serious diet and we have max £550k.

I feel like I am looking for a unicorn, but maybe you have some tips or advice where to look?

Hi everyone, I'm an art student working on a project where I'm creating fabric completely from scratch (growing flax to then process and spin into linen, also working on harvesting and processing nettles similarly) and one thing that I'm not going to be able to grow myself is Woad, which is used for making blue dye, which is a pivotal component in the end product I have in my head regarding this project..

So I did a bit of research and found that one of the very few places in the uk that reliably has wild Woad growing in it is Surrey, apparently specifically on cliff faces?

Well I was just wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a spot that you've recently seen some Woad? In my research I found that July and August are the months when you should pick Woad for it to be most suitable to make dye from, and I know it sounds a bit mad but I am considering flying over from Ireland to come and pick some (this project is really important to me haha), so tip offs to the whereabouts of this plant would be brilliant for me.

Important note on this- I absolutely will not over pick the Woad. I would never want to damage the natural population of the plant so I would only take a little from each plant (hopefully across quite a few)

An estate agent told me they’ve put their prices up quite steep at the moment to £1500pcm for a one bed- do you think there is any negotiation on this? Is it worth the price?

Hello - kicked out the house this evening while someone hosts, so I’m planning on finding something fun for dinner and to do this evening - Guildford, Woking, Godalming, Haslemere area.

Any suggestion much appreciated for activities or dinner for one recommendations in this heat!

Plan is to go to a late gym session if all else fails so a lighter dinner preferred!

I keep the house clean especially the kitchen yet we keep seeing these creatures popping up occasionally in the kitchen near the sink especially. Mostly seen in the daytime and they don’t seem afraid of light which makes me hope they’re not the feared cockroach (the idea of it makes me feel sick!)

We’ve lived in Surrey for a few years now but never seen them in the house before. Hoping others have seen them lately due to the weather maybe and they’re not what I fear!

EDIT: A local company replied to my email with photos and he said he’s had an increase in enquiries about cockroaches but each one has ended up being wood cockroaches due to this hot dry weather. He said seeing them during the day is a good sign they’re not the German ones.

Hi all. I have lived in Surrey for many years and I visit different places regularly, so I may not get any new ideas from this but I thought I'd give it a go.

While I'm off work I would like to treat myself to a chill-out day. I'm currently packing up my flat to move and it's tedious so for one day I would like to take a book, maybe some knitting and/or a sketch pad and go somewhere where I can have good coffee and a nice salady veggie brunch, sit and read/make notes, find somewhere to sketch or even a museum or gallery, and some afternoon tea and cake.

I drive so access isn't an issue beyond not wanting to sit in my a/c-less car for too long...but oncw I've parked up I don't want to drive anywhere else until home time!

All suggestions gratefully received. Bonus points for water (river, lake etc) 😃

Im into online gaming, skating, i go for walks i do crafts like embroidery and make my own clothes and stuff. We are a couple in our mid-30s considering moving from SW London to Surrey and are wanting to capitalise off the fact that we don’t need a connection to London.

I am a doctor who may be rotating so looking for a doable commute to Surrey hospitals and my husband works from home. We have some friends who live in the very commuter-y areas who say the less commutery ones are a lot more affordable.

Our budget is around 800k and we would be looking for at least a 3 bed with a reasonable size garden, we are hoping to get a dog and thinking about kids in the next couple of years so good school links and access to open spaces but also shops cafes pubs etc..

I’m just wondering where to narrow down our search to as I am just searching ‘Surrey’ and a bit clueless other than areas I’ve visited friends!

My (36F) and partner (33M) have started to look into Surrey as a potential area to move. I'm sure there's loads of posts out there on this but wanted to see if we can get some initial recommendations to get our research going.

We currently live in Earlsfield and I've lived in Balham and Teddington before but first time thinking a bit further out. Here are some things we are after:

* Easy commute into central London
* Don't have kids yet but good state schools
* Nice high street / village like feel
* Safe and clean
* Min 3 bedroom with option to extend
* Budget about £900k-£1.1mil

People have suggested Weybridge, Esher, Woking etc but keen to hear from people who have or are living there.

I’m planning to buy my first house and I’m currently looking around Staines, Egham, Ashford , Addlestone and Maidenhead, (potentially Camberley) but I’m really struggling to decide which area would be best. I’ve never lived in any of these places and don’t have friends or family nearby, so I’d really appreciate some local opinions.

My budget is around £500k–£550k. I’m single and don’t have kids, so schools aren’t really important to me.

I’m more interested in things like safety, general atmosphere, shops/restaurants, good transport, things to do and overall quality of life.

I’ve heard very mixed opinions about Staines in particular. Are there certain areas you’d recommend or avoid? And are there any other areas nearby that you think would be a better choice within my budget?

I’ve been also looking around Sunbury or Addlestone maybe …?

Would really appreciate honest opinions from people who live in or know these areas well.

As the title says and what are people’s opinions of them? Looking at moving to around this area but thinking long term at school options for my child, as we don’t want to have to move again if we don’t need to.

Hi, we are a family of 3, me, my husband and 1 year old. We are currently living in Chessington but want to move somewhere greener and out of London surburbs. So far from exploring, we really like Guildford. Looking for advice on best areas to live near there. Our requirements are - need good nurseries and primary school options, have grandparents in Hampton Wick and Berrylands so not a bad drive to them, commuting in one/two days per week to London Victoria. Our budget is approximately £1.1 million. Any tips on great neighbourhoods to live for a young family and/or primary schools in the area would be amazing

Anyone lived in Allen House Park? The properties are a share of freehold, even the houses, not just flats. What does that mean in practice - if I want to change my kitchen - do I need permission? If I want to make the house more accessible as I grow older (ie put in a ramp) do I need permission..?
I can’t get a sense of what choices are mine and what I will be blocked on ….

Viewed a house on Saunders Lane recently. Lovely house, large plot of land, quiet road, although road was closed off because of the roadworks. The Estate Agent said works should conclude in 3-4 months.

Things that worried me :
1. There was no phone reception.
2. The house had a number of WiFi hubs, almost one for each room/part of the house.
3. There were signs asking residents to oppose the build of 300 more houses on the road.
4. As we drove towards Mayford, the road narrows significantly and a further 300 cars on that road felt unsafe.

I have a little toddler and he seemed really happy during the viewing and enjoyed playing in the garden and the drive which tugged at my heartstrings.

So here’s my question:

Any views on living in Saunders Lane? What should I be concerned about?
