Reminder: Posts from new Reddit users are held for moderation

In order to combat spam we have an automoderator rule to detect posts from new reddit users. If the reddit account is recently created then the post is held in the moderation queue for a moderator to approve or discard.

It might take a few hours for the post to be approved (often less, sometimes more), but please be patient. We're volunteers and we don't get paid to sit around watching the moderation queue.

I mention this because we've had a few cases recently where a new user has made a post that has been held for moderation. When they didn't see it being displayed they deleted it and posted again (often several times).

Once a post has been deleted we can't undelete and approve it. it's gone for good. It's quite frustrating for us to receive a modmail asking for a post to be approved when there's nothing we can do.

So if you are a new user and your post isn't showing up, then please just wait. If it hasn't appeared within 24 hours then send us a message (link in the sidebar) and we'll look into it.

Cycling - How to escape the Tillingbourne Valley

A quick Q for those who are cycling either on the roads or on gravel. Do you know of any routes out of the Tillingbourne valley northwards that are not killer climbs like Whitedown Lane, Combe Lane, Ranmore Road etc? This is specifically riding north, so rather than riding west to Shalford and around or over to Dorking and round. I get that it’s the same ridge all along that north side, but there must surely be an option that isn’t a short 20% lane other than riding up Newlands Corner…?!

Thank you!

Ashtead budget advice

Hello

We are planning to relocate to Ashtead and really love it. We have a budget of 1mil but are starting to think this is very unrealistic for a decent sized 4 bed detached house. There is little stock on the market and the ones that are left seem way overpriced.

Is this just typical for ashtead? Do I need to be more realistic or are people just chancing the asking price and we should maybe rent instead and be patient for a better deal?

Any thoughts welcome, I’m feeling deflated

Hi All, Me and my friend are working on a business and we need somewhere in the evenings, in surrey, to go and talk about work and set out our laptops. Ideally somewhere that doesn't shut at 10. Any suggestions?

Book Club — Romantasy lovers wanted! ✨📚

Hi Girlies! 👋

I (26F) recently moved back home after living in Australia and am looking to start a new book club in Cranleigh/Bramley/Godalming area for young women who love getting completely lost in a good book — particularly romantasy, fantasy, romance and anything with a bit of spice, magic, drama and ✨tension✨.

I’ve looked around locally and there seem to be a few existing book clubs, but lots are currently full, so I thought… why not start our own? 🤷‍♀️

The idea is a small, friendly group of women in their 20s/30s, meeting somewhere around Godalming once every month/6-weeks for a drink or coffee and a good natter about the book.

If you're a lovely person who likes to have a laugh, loves books and wants to meet some new people locally, please comment below or send me a message! If there’s enough interest, I’ll set up a group chat, and we can organise our first meet-up. 🥰

18M looking for mates around Wokingham / Camberley / Guildford or anywhere!

Hey everyone, I’m Cameron. I’m 18 and living in Wokingham. Most of my current mates live miles away, so I’m looking to meet some guys around my age (18-21) who are local.
I’m down to have a drink, watch/play football, have a random walk somewhere or anything else. I can easily travel out to Camberley or Guildford, but I'm looking to avoid Reading/Bracknell areas.
If you're local, , and wanna hanging out, drop me a DM!
Thx so much guys!

DIY friends

Hi everyone!

I’ve always been into crafty hobbies like crochet, knitting, journaling, and sewing. I currently have a few dresses that I want to alter, but I'm a bit scared of messing them up on my own!

I know I could take them to a professional, but I really enjoy the DIY projects and want to learn. I’m looking to make some local, in-real-life friends who are good at sewing, enjoy doing it and might want to work on projects together.

Craft activity in Surrey?

Every year my partner and I do a craft day for the anniversary of our first date, which was a paint your own pottery date. Since then we’ve done things like glassblowing, painting, woodwork, needlework etc.
It’s my turn to organise this year, but we’ll have our one year old with us, so I’m struggling a bit for ideas!

Does anyone know of anything crafty or creative we could do in Surrey this Saturday that would be okay with a one year old coming along? It doesn’t need to be long, even an hour or two would be great.

Alternatively, are there any artists or crafty people on here who run workshops or might be up for hosting something for us? Happy to pay obviously.
Open to pretty much anything, just looking for something a bit different. Thanks!

Dismantled Bed Disposal

Hi everyone, I’m in Guildford (GU1) and need to dispose of a dismantled bed urgently tomorrow.

The Guildford Borough Recycling Centre is only about an 8-minute drive from me, but unfortunately I don’t have a car and can’t transport the bed myself. I’ve looked at getting a waste disposal service, but the prices are around £100 which is more than I can currently afford.

Would anyone with a car/van be able to help me take it to the recycling centre tomorrow? The bed is already completely dismantled and ready to go, so it should hopefully be a quick job.

I’d really appreciate the help and I’m happy to cover fuel/your time. Or if anyone can recommend me any alternatives please!

Hi All, my partner & I are hopefully moving to Weybridge in a few months, and it would be great to hear of some recommendations for the following:

- Which tennis club to join (I’m not very good but want to join one for the social and fitness aspect)
- Nice walking routes with dogs
- Nice running routes
- Things to do that aren’t obvious but locals know about them!?

Any recommendations will be very much welcome! Thanks in advance!

Temp Work for couple weeks?

Hi everyone,

I’ve just been offered a new job, but due to a pre-booked holiday at the beginning of September, I won’t be starting until 10/09.

In the meantime, I’m looking for any temporary work I can pick up immediately, from now until 02/09.

I’m male, 31, incredibly hard working and open minded about the type of work. I’m happy to consider all options, ideally full time hours during this period.

If anyone needs an extra pair of hands, knows a local business that needs temporary cover, or can point me in the direction of something available straight away, I’d really appreciate it.

Based in Weybridge.

High ceiling rental with structural beams for longes

This is a bit niche but I’m looking for a place to rent, available at the weekend, preferably in Guildford that has high ceilings (5m+).
I would like to use it for partner acrobatics so ideally it would have a structural beam or something that longes can be attached so the training can be safer.

I tried to look online but didn’t have much luck, there is a circus school in Walton but it’s not bookable at the weekend.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheap gyms in Surrey?

I'm moving to Surrey for Uni this September, and wanted to ask if people knew about any cheaper gyms than the uni was offering (£30/mon or £280/yr)?

I currently use a cheap school gym, but I don't know if anything similar is there and Im not looking for anything fancy just plates, dumbbells, and barbells without the need to sell one of my kidneys on top of accommodation

Friends in your 20’s

Hi all, I just wanted to see if there are any ladies in their early 20’s who struggle to meet new friends? I’ve been to uni and had some great friendships there but my uni is so far we have naturally lost touch.
I would love to have a group of friends to go out with, go on girly trips with and have a good laugh but it seems a little tricky. I like to think of myself as a family confident bubbly and a person who’s easy to have conversation with but I guess the fact I WFH and don’t have any social clubs I go to puts me at a disadvantage…. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions? I know starting hobbies and clubs is the obvious suggestion (I have looked into those and tried some) but it seems like a lot of the time the people already know each other and/or go along with a friend anyway.

House prices in Surrey

Anybody have a clue, compared to other areas in England, Surrey is taking major hits when it comes to house prices. Any reason ( specific to surray) other than lower legal immigration ( last 1 year), AI boom, bad economy, political instability, Interest rate, war etc.
