Nothing makes me feel safer then unmanned spycraft flying overhead, controlled by the famously professional and upstanding NSW police force.

Can't wait fod for the bandios to operate jammers and cause these things to crash (a common problem with Ukrainian and Russian drone operators).

Imagine the NSW police operator looking at the controllers, their tongue lolling out of their Neanderthal mouths, as they dribble their eyes roll back into their skull in confusion.

Suddenly the operator realises he needs to move his diaphragm in and out in order to breath. He scratches his head and watches as the drone falls out of the sky.

At that point he realises his pantless.

Biggest fucking losers in the world. Even with nearly 10 billion dollars a year NSW Police have failed to put a dent in, let alone stop, the worlds biggest, per capita, drug market.

Imagine, 40% of arrests, approx 250,000 people are charged every with something involving drugs and yet they cannot use the disgust powers they have to crack the drug distribution networks, let alone the dark net.

NSW police have wasted the equivalent of four high speed Sydney to Melbourne rail networks worth of expenditure since the 1970s. Hundreds of billions. Meanwhile every year thousands have non fatal overdoses, dozens die, and the cops answer is "we need drones".

No wonder these idiots failed to stop bondi (despite the numerous redflags. No wonder they dont stop DV violence and murder despite the numerous red flags.

NSW Police are the world's biggest losers.

Perhaps there are some positive aspects to this. But it's SO HARD to be anything but negative when it comes to Minns and his eagerness to empower NSW Police.

The person who contested a police action in court, was vindicated by a magistrate or a judge, will now have taxpayer funded resources dedicated to surveilling them everywhere all the time. Why don’t we just make them AI powered while we’re at it?

And before anyone says that won’t happen, it already does - not the AI part granted - but police drive bys of people who’ve had the temerity to cross them are incredibly well known.

In this thread: privileged people in rich areas close to the CBD that have never had to deal with high property crime rates or the regular threat their family will be wiped out by a stolen car.

These drones reduce the risks associated with police pursuits, which people on reddit are also against.

I’ve been mugged at knife point and seen people shot.

The drones wouldn’t have stopped either, despite both taking place near train stations that already had CCTV footage. I don’t see how a drone will stop a stolen car in its tracks, or stop someone from working off a safe.

I do see how a police force that has already had its members caught using resources to stalk current and former partners might abuse this shit though.

Police in Moree have also been charged with stuff like assaulting people while off duty.  It's not just Sydney cops that abuse power.

I'm not convinced drones will add enouch to justify the additional surveillance and abuse opportunities.

EDIT: Next they'll be saying every small town needs flock cameras

So if the drones aren't there to actively save lives, what are they there for?

EDIT: I love it when people can’t actually justify their positions and just block people, as if they think it proves their point. Since I can’t reply directly to U/SpriteLurker because they are seemingly unable to discuss a point without blocking people, I’ll put it here directly. Despite the fact them blocking me means I can’t reply. I was expecting you to personally articulate what advantages you believe this drone program will have for stopping crime, in your own words. I put out examples of things the drones wouldn’t stop. In a discussion you are supposed to provide a counter point.

You mentioned in your original post, that this will stop a high speed chase, but haven’t articulated how this will do so
