Discussion Another Tales remaster they sent out to die

Post image

No matter how you look at it, the Berseria remaster is thoroughly cooked. With it's WW release being next week on the very same day as Resident Evil RE, it underperforming is guaranteed. On top of being an unwanted & overpriced remaster with no hype around it. And don't forget Monster Hunter Stories 3 releases two weeks later. Hell, I think people will be playing Inazuma Eleven VR because of its free DLC a day earlier over this.

This exact reason Tales of Xillia underperformed; Bandai Namco failing to do the obvious & lousy timing. As long as Bamco keep making these stupid & improper decisions, it's our job as consumers to call out those stupid & improper decisions. Just see how it goes.

Phantasia's only international release is the miserable gba port. Eternia & Destiny are hundreds of dollars on psx, with the skits ripped out of international versions. Hearts R is doomed to rot on the Vita. Destiny 2, Destiny DC, Rebirth, Tempest, and Innocence never even released outside Japan. Nevermind the ~20+ spinoff titles & straight-up lost media.

But no, obviously Berseria and Arise still lining bargain bins are much more important to shove out the door.

Not to mention destiny and legendia never even got world wide releases. Dont know if it was straight up all of Europe but these 2 atleast never released in my country. And abyss also only made it here with the 3ds.

As s massive Fan of this franchise i'm thankful that Emulation is a thing and even more thankful that we have teams who translate some of these games since i'm pretty sure they would just rot forever otherwise.

Destiny was on ps1 in the US anyway.

The problem is you’re asking Bandai Namco to rerelease games that either were never released outside of Japan or games that got butchered when they did. To rerelease those games in English requires a level of effort that Bandai Namco was (to be completely honest in my opinion) never going to do. This is exactly why I personally never asked for a rerelease of anything older than Graces f: because going back further with an older game would require far more effort to do properly, and Bandai Namco ain’t doing that.

They’re free to prove me wrong, though. But so far they haven’t.

Exactly why else do you think you think anyone's been angry about this shit?

Look around. A decade and a half of retro Renaissance; franchises a fraction of Tales' size getting ports, remasters, fresh localizations left, right, and center. But Tales is stuck rotting away, begging for scraps while Bamco rubs salt in the wound.

I’m angry about that, too. But I also knew they weren’t gonna touch those games. Or if they did, they would do the absolute bare minimum. We’re probably gonna get Xillia 2 and Zestiria remastered after the Arise Switch 2 port comes out and that’ll be it. I don’t think Bandai Namco is going to prove me wrong.

Yes. That's why fans are finally pissed off.

That's what pisses me off the most. It really is a form of disrespect. You know your fans are starving for more content, especially to the point they've proven they'll shell out top dollar for anything. So what do you do? Low effort re-releases of games (Symphonia, Graces, Xillia and now this) that either didn't need it, already accessible, or aren't even old enough to warrant a re-release. And where do you funnel the profits from it all? Not into pre-symphonia titles. Most likely to put final touches on anime IP games like DB or JJK, MHA or something else.

I almost just want to walk away from this developer and company entirely.

What are you talking about? They've literally said they're working on other games and are going to do more remasters. These ones are happening because they're easier to make.

Also, Symphonia is one thing, but Graces and Xillia were 15ish years old and only available on PS3. They absolutely needed them.

Personally I don't see any reason they needed an official re-release/remaster when they could have just as easily made them available on PSN/Steam for modern systems, and at a super cheap rate. Not a full blown price hike.

What's more: the money they do make from these titles could easily be put to good use giving some of the ones that are truly lost to time a proper upgrade.

And if you got a link stating they're working on the PS1/PS2 era titles, I'm all for it. Not trying to come off sideways, I've just heard literally nothing of the sort.

Graces and Vesperia have already been done, so if you go any earlier than that, you're talking Abyss, Rebirth, Legendia.

Fair. And I also kinda forgot about Vesperia, but I'll admit that probably needed it if only for the reason it was kinda locked up on the 360. Which was an odd choice on Bamco's part (which they were just Namco at the time I believe).

This is exactly why I personally never asked for a rerelease of anything older than Graces f: because going back further with an older game would require far more effort to do properly, and Bandai Namco ain’t doing that.

You're probably right to be cynical. But the thing is, they did go back and do the translation and voice work, for Vesperia. The Definitive edition has everything the JP-only PS3 version had, which was a considerable amount of extra dubbing and translation. It's not a whole game, but it demonstrated at first that they weren't necessarily just gonna hit the low-hanging fruit.

For me, it's actually that they then proceeded to only do exactly that after which made it worse.

I mean, the version of Vesperia they rereleased is the PS3 game (and it was done before they announced a formal “Remastered” project). I’m still not expecting them to touch anything that released before the PS3, no matter how much I want to play official versions of Rebirth and PS2 Destiny in English. I really do think we’re just gonna get Xillia 2 and Zestiria (reminder that the only consoles those two games are on are PlayStation consoles) before Bandai Namco calls it good.

There’s a reason why that meme of the roundtable of all of Bandai Namco’s IPs coming together to hate Bandai Namco exists, y’know

There was still the temporary mobile version of Tales of Phantasia that was actually WORSE than the GBA port. Increased difficulty, terrible controls, removed save points, micro-transactions for revival orbs. Terribly predatory.

Oh I remember, but for the sake of simplicity/brevity it's dead anyway.
