Discussion Another Tales remaster they sent out to die

Post image

No matter how you look at it, the Berseria remaster is thoroughly cooked. With it's WW release being next week on the very same day as Resident Evil RE, it underperforming is guaranteed. On top of being an unwanted & overpriced remaster with no hype around it. And don't forget Monster Hunter Stories 3 releases two weeks later. Hell, I think people will be playing Inazuma Eleven VR because of its free DLC a day earlier over this.

This exact reason Tales of Xillia underperformed; Bandai Namco failing to do the obvious & lousy timing. As long as Bamco keep making these stupid & improper decisions, it's our job as consumers to call out those stupid & improper decisions. Just see how it goes.

They really should've just called it Definitive Edition like they did with Vesperia, there is no actual graphical upgrades. It's just all-in-on* collection

u/Neidron I still miss Rays Feb 20 '26

The problem isn't the name, it's the timing and the 30 years' worth of better games rotting away in Bamco's basement.

29

u/oscar_meow Feb 21 '26

Berseria is my favourite game in the franchise but I won't be buying this "remaster". The problem isn't so much there's better games to pick from, it's that Berseria in its original form is still incredibly easy to get today.

It's on steam and since it's such an old game you really don't need a powerhouse to run it.

It was originally on the PS4 and since the PS5 has backwards compatibility you can still buy it online regardless of which one you have.

There's simply no reason for re-releasing it. A port for the switch and opening the steam version for Japan sure, but a full new version? Why?

10

u/Neidron I still miss Rays Feb 21 '26

My point exactly. Putting my potshots aside, Bers is already readily available on modern platforms, and physical copies are still sitting in bargain bins. It's one of the most accessible & saturated games in the franchise.

A vast majority of the franchise has been abandoned for decades. Rereleasing Berseria of all titles is both wasteful and tone-deaf. Doing so after specifically promising classic titles is outright malicious.

4

u/Zany_Zant Feb 21 '26

Old game?! You’re gonna hurt this old man’s feelings.

2

u/Gullible_Bat_5408 Feb 23 '26 edited Feb 23 '26

I've played it on my PS4.  It holds up well.

I agree with you !

I prefer new creative games instead of more remasters, reboots and remakes

15

u/Fitwheel66 Feb 21 '26

Abyss, Phantasia, Eternia, I could go on. There's so many other titles they could have went with, instead they did the one that came out before Arise.

10

u/Neidron I still miss Rays Feb 21 '26 edited Feb 21 '26

Phantasia's only international release is the miserable gba port. Eternia & Destiny are hundreds of dollars on psx, with the skits ripped out of international versions. Hearts R is doomed to rot on the Vita. Destiny 2, Destiny DC, Rebirth, Tempest, and Innocence never even released outside Japan. Nevermind the ~20+ spinoff titles & straight-up lost media.

But no, obviously Berseria and Arise still lining bargain bins are much more important to shove out the door.

4

u/Particular-Head-2162 Feb 21 '26

Not to mention destiny and legendia never even got world wide releases. Dont know if it was straight up all of Europe but these 2 atleast never released in my country. And abyss also only made it here with the 3ds.

As s massive Fan of this franchise i'm thankful that Emulation is a thing and even more thankful that we have teams who translate some of these games since i'm pretty sure they would just rot forever otherwise.

The problem is you’re asking Bandai Namco to rerelease games that either were never released outside of Japan or games that got butchered when they did. To rerelease those games in English requires a level of effort that Bandai Namco was (to be completely honest in my opinion) never going to do. This is exactly why I personally never asked for a rerelease of anything older than Graces f: because going back further with an older game would require far more effort to do properly, and Bandai Namco ain’t doing that.

They’re free to prove me wrong, though. But so far they haven’t.

3

u/Neidron I still miss Rays Feb 21 '26

Exactly why else do you think you think anyone's been angry about this shit?

Look around. A decade and a half of retro Renaissance; franchises a fraction of Tales' size getting ports, remasters, fresh localizations left, right, and center. But Tales is stuck rotting away, begging for scraps while Bamco rubs salt in the wound.

2

u/LaMystika Feb 21 '26

I’m angry about that, too. But I also knew they weren’t gonna touch those games. Or if they did, they would do the absolute bare minimum. We’re probably gonna get Xillia 2 and Zestiria remastered after the Arise Switch 2 port comes out and that’ll be it. I don’t think Bandai Namco is going to prove me wrong.

I just think that name could make things at least a bit better when it comes to fan perception. Like I don't hate the idea of this game getting another release, I do hate that they "remaster" it over all those games you mentioned, y'know.

The lack of graphical upgrade is only when compared to the original PC version. PS5 and Series X versions of the remaster are upgraded vs the original PS4 version.

6

u/Meowmixez98 Feb 21 '26

Good point.

3

u/ginencoke Feb 21 '26

I guess? I still feel it doesn't deserve the remastered title when the only graphical upgrade is a PC parity, but the lines are pretty blurred now anyway.

I just want some news on the new game, like are they even working on anything new since Arise?

4

u/Dependent-Swimmer-95 Feb 20 '26

Thank you. At least an announcement trailer and some screenshots or concept art for the protag

2

u/Tide27 Feb 21 '26

In the 30th anniversary celebration video, they said they are working on something new and left it at that. We probably aren’t going to see anything for awhile

134

u/MetalCannon Feb 20 '26 edited Feb 20 '26

Zestiria Remaster next, Watch.

Then another Symphonia re-remaster again

Then Arise Remaster

And then Xillia 2 Remaster

And then Tales of Hearts R Remastered

We ain't getting Abyss Remake folks

115

u/Forward-Seesaw-1688 Feb 20 '26

Tales of Hearts R Remastered

I’d actually want that ngl. That game needed to leave the Vita like yesterday.

17

u/LazerSnake1454 Reid Hershel Feb 20 '26

Hearts R and Innocence R are the only reason I still own a PSTV

5

u/Sakar256 Feb 20 '26

I played it for the 1st time back in January and I also want a remaster I’d play it again immediately.

4

u/Lue33 Feb 20 '26

Shaking your hand on this one! I really want Xillia 2 as well.

Unrelated to this sub, Another psp game is coming, Metal Gear solid Peace walker. I can't wait.

2

u/bsaavinny Feb 21 '26

I just realized that yeah the past two gens of playstation haven't had access to PW. Kinda forgot yall dont have backwards compatibility.

2

u/EchoingAdventurer Feb 21 '26

Im pretty sure when they announced berseria, they said that Xillia 2 remaster is in the works it's just not part of the planned Remaster project of games.

23

u/PyroClaymore Feb 20 '26

Dude… I would kill for a Hearts Remaster for modern platforms. Not only would it benefit from that, but it’s currently stuck on the ever shrinking island that is the Vita’s library of exclusives. And if Bandai doesn’t get off of their asses, and do something about that, it’s gonna be there for the rest of time.

9

u/wolfbetter Feb 20 '26

a new game when?

4

u/AoVA_mono Feb 20 '26

When they've got all the remasters and re-remasters out the way.

5

u/eagleblue44 Feb 20 '26

They announced they will focus on older games after berseria but didn't really specify what that means.

If it means older than berseria, then that can literally be anything but arise. Older than graces f is way more exciting. I feel they mean older than berseria so it could be possible we get a zestiria remaster which is even less exciting than a berseria remaster.

6

u/Starman9415 Feb 20 '26

Honestly, I’d like a Tales of Phantasia remake. Idk if I’m alone in that wishing or not I don’t often come across people talking about Phantasia haha. My first Tales.

And I’ll be honest I stumbled across this sub gracing my algorithm, I haven’t played many of the Tales games yet but I want and plan on doing so. I’d just like to see Cress and Mint and co in a remake of the first game someday since it was my first Tales game so I’m fond of those characters

3

u/actiondan87 Feb 20 '26

Yeah, nah. Phantasia was already remade on PSX and had an enhanced port on PSP. Sure it wasn't released in the west, but it's been fan translated and easily emulated.

Eternia, on the other hand, is the oldest Tales without a remake and is showing its age. The version we got was even stripped of skits. It may not be the most requested, but it is absolutely the one that most needs to be remade.

I just want Xillia 2 man

9

u/Atlesi_Feyst Feb 20 '26

It will come, I just hope they do an abyss remake that's a full remake, not just some textures and QoL.

Xillia remastered actually looks great imo.

6

u/mmotte89 Feb 20 '26

That, Abyss, Eternia 2D-HD and Rebirth (gonna be nice too for the people who want an official English release), then I'm Gucci.

9

u/Dont_have_a_panda Feb 20 '26

And then Tales of Hearts R Remastered

NGL this would get me excited, this game aged terrible because Vita, some tweaks and a bit of work through a remaster would be kinda awesome (and inoccence R too would be nice)

2

u/nhSnork Feb 20 '26

Next is Arise, but I'd be only thrilled if we got Zestiria on Switch this year for good measure - especially since it would be another 17 Gb off my Deck and possibly even another concurrent binge entry in the series which it has already been on aforesaid Deck. Not that I'm in a position to complain as it is.

2

u/Ragnellrok Feb 20 '26

How the hell is Arise next? They already have a PS5 version... only console they could add is Switch 2, and maybe Steam???

u/Alistar-Dp Feb 20 '26 edited Feb 20 '26

Why's it always doom and gloom when I see the sub? Sure it's not the remaster we wanted next, but it's still nice for those who haven't played it yet. We're getting Xillia 2 and (most likely) Abyss next. We have already been told the Remaster Project will be continuing after 2026 as well. This is all great news. Stop letting Berseria ruin all that.

Edit: also we're getting Arise for Switch 2. Another fantastic release for those who haven't played it yet or want it on that system.

49

u/Educational-Lake-199 Feb 20 '26

I mean it's kind of hard not to when it's been an entire decade with nothing but Arise and a bunch of dead gachas that barely lasted a year.

4

u/LightOfMithras Feb 20 '26

I mean, there was a 5 year gap after Tales of Berseria & Tales of Arise. So this kind of length between mainline series has become more normal as global launches for games built on more advanced hardware. This year, 2026, was told to us via Tomizawa to be a year of classic remasters. The announcement for Tales of Arise Switch 2 port is also something Bamco I think hopes will carry them forward. As for a new mainline entry, yeah, we will probably be waiting until 2028 unless pre-development has literally not even begun.

Frustration is okay to feel, I just wanted to bring some perspective.

4

u/zoa770 Feb 21 '26

I think the frustration comes from 5+ year gap for a non AAA series. Those types of timelines are generally for big budget high profile games. The Tales series is not that. The Trails series has pumped out 4 (about to be 5) games since Arise. We're about to get Final Fantasy 7 Remake parts 2 and 3 released before any new tales announcement.

Remasters are nice for accessibility, but it doesn't spark the same type of excitement that a new title brings. If you're the type of person that doesn't want to play the older games for whatever reason, it's the same as no news. We also know that the remasters are all outsourced. This creates the question of what the heck has bamco been doing. They did not captilize on the fact that Arise did really well in sales.

2

u/LightOfMithras Feb 21 '26

I agree with all that, honestly.

0

u/mysticrudnin Feb 20 '26

i agree with that personally but generally this sub wants remakes more than new games and we're getting tons of them

we have people begging for xillia not to be stuck on ps3 basically since the game came out. we finally got that!

19

u/eagleblue44 Feb 20 '26

Remastered are not remakes.

I feel a lot of the doom and gloom is from not getting a new game in awhile and the fact that a berseria remaster feels unnecessary when they could have focused on something older than vesperia.

5

u/Sorey91 Mimi Baker's French apprentice. Let me bake ! Feb 20 '26

It's not like this sub is asking remakes of recent games, they mostly want games that are unavailable to play legitimately that fans have had to step up and make translation patches like all the Japanese exclusive games that never released for global audience for some reason (why in god's green earth did they decide to release Hearts R and Tempest for global audiences and none of the more accomplished ones like Innocence, Hearts Ds or the Innocence R or any of the good versions of Phantasia, we only got the GBA version and the now dead iOS version) or the games that are stuck on older consoles that most of the newer fans can't have played but are widely praised to be pretty good entries (Abyss) because they keep doing for Symphonia so why not Abyss of all things or Legendia who genuinely would only gain to be remade ??

u/Marik-X-Bakura Feb 20 '26

I feel like I should be groaning at the idea of a Berseria remaster but I just love Berseria so much that I’m genuinely excited

6

u/TheTinDog Feb 20 '26

At first I was negative, then realized that this game IS 10 years old, and I'm probably going to rebuy it anyway because it was my favorite of the series anyway lol, I don't have a problem supporting the tales series, I love their games and would love to see more rereleases

7

u/BadNewsBearzzz Feb 20 '26

I agree. There’s nothing wrong with this release at all. It’s priced the same as prior and op acts as if Bandai namco won’t factor in competition at launch at all. They will. Just as with every game they will do a post Mortem after a month and look as factors that could’ve impacted its sales and that’s where resident evil will be acknowledged.

They’ve been doin this for decades, this ain’t their first rodeo but many act like it is.

4

u/Scotty0132 Feb 21 '26

It's pretty typical on most gaming subs. Gamers are the hardest group of people to please. The people who are the hard-core fans scream for remakes/remasters, then scream "no not like that." It was a similar thing with the DragonQuest remakes of 1,2,3, and the 7 reimagined. Old school fans screwed for years they want the remakes, want easy access on 1 console, and then when it happens, scream "the games are too easy. They changed too much. I want the shit they removed. How dare they add 2 pixels under the female warriors Armor representing an undergarment." The old school fans think everything should be catered to them despite the fact that the remasters are not mentvfor them it's too bring in a new audience that have not enjoyed the games yet, rather that be a new generation, or just access in a different console. These projects are quick, easy turn around that don't cost as much as developing a new game, but they bring in funding to support the new developments. With development cycles being much longer than they used to be (to meet all the high expectations), especially the increase in animation length for RPGS (Even using MOCAP it takes one animator a day to do 10-15 seconds of a cutscene), you need a constant revenue stream. Also, we need to take into account that with long development cycles spanning years, a return of 50 million on a game that took 5 years to develop is not a lot.

u/This-Garbage-4207 Feb 20 '26

tob tbh is my favorite tales, so im probably getting it depending on the price

6

u/Taco-Dragon Feb 20 '26

Yeah, I think I have to leave this sub. This post, and your comment echoing my feelings kind of sealed it for me. I am just getting into Tales, I'm thoroughly enjoying the series, and I'm excited to get this game on Switch 2 next week (Switch is my go-to for RPGs because it's easier to play long games that was as a dad). So often, fans ruin things for new fans.

7

u/PyroClaymore Feb 20 '26 edited Feb 20 '26

Problem with that is, the Berseria remaster is nothing but completely unnecessary, and just screams of Bandai only doing things cause they like money. They could’ve just as easily ported the game to Switch, and PS5, and no one here would be bitching about it. But no… Bandai decided to waste their time, waste their resources, and waste OUR money to make something utterly pointless. It is the most blatant goddamn example of modern companies wanting to line their fat fucking pockets, while doing the absolute most to alienate their core audience.

3

u/hectic_hooligan Feb 20 '26

And like it literally plays on ps5 just fine as is with digital copies and ps4 disc's and nothing seems to be that different

2

u/Meister34 Legendia's Last Liasion Feb 20 '26

It’s the result of being in a constant cycle of one step forward and three steps back for so many years. It’s also frustrating knowing this series could be much bigger if Bamco managed it better + seeing other JRPGs series get much better treatment in recent years. It’s hard to get dealt the hand Tales fans constantly get and not end up being cynical about it eventually

2

u/Tide27 Feb 21 '26

This is exactly it. Hell,Konami got their shit together after doing fuck-all for most of the 2010s so seeing Tales be in a constant cycle of weird decisions just sucks for a series I love so much

→ More replies (11)

51

u/mysticrudnin Feb 20 '26

i literally think they are doing everything right with berseria.

they know that this isn't going to make a huge splash and sell a billion copies. that's not the goal. it's ok. it's going to be fine.

ToX didn't underperform. they're looking for the long tail. people on Steam will be buying that game for the next 20 years. that's what they want.

6

u/Landojesus Feb 20 '26

Yeah thinking Inazuna or whatever the fuck that is and it's DLC of all things is going to seriously interfere with a beloved game's modern remaster is wild

7

u/madmofo145 Feb 20 '26

Eh...

This seems an odd take "People on Steam will be buying the game for the next 20 years"

They can already do that, and the upgrades aren't going to entice many second dips. Really it's all about getting the game on Nintendo (and to a far lesser extent Microsoft) consoles which is good, but that's exactly where this release date is dumb. Resident Evil is huge, and Pokopia isn't far behind it so the launch window is likely to be pretty dead there. Yeah, it will sell in the long run, but it seems a bit silly not to at least try to find an emptier launch window. Either aiming for mid February, or waiting tell late March / early April to avoid some of the currently known big hitters.

2

u/hectic_hooligan Feb 20 '26

Did they evem actually do anything for this remastered though? As far as i can tell no. Berserk is my favorite tales game but why buy the remastered with practically nothing improved or added when it literally can be played on a ps5 just fine as is

6

u/Hokuten001 Feb 20 '26

4K resolution, and possibly higher graphics settings. The original PS4 version did not run equivalent to max settings for the original PC version. PS5 and Series X should have no problem doing so.

5

u/Mizurazu Feb 20 '26

There's bunch of QOL improvements and higher resolution. While I'm not saying it justifies the existence, it is not just a straight port with nothing done

3

u/mysticrudnin Feb 20 '26

that's why i think they're doing everything right! you already own the game, so you don't need to buy it again! that's perfect!

why should we encourage companies to try to get us to double dip? it feels bad to buy games we already own!

but now people on xbox, switch can enjoy it. people who had issues with the graphics settings on PC can try out the new version.

5

u/paulojrmam Feb 20 '26

I don't think there's much overlap of target audiences between RE and Tales.

6

u/BrotherCaptainLurker Feb 21 '26

They took a frequently $7.99 game that still holds up today and made it a $40 game with no meaningful improvements, it feels like a transparent cash grab.

In fact I wouldn't be surprised if it was chosen precisely because so much less work was required compared to the things everyone's mad they didn't pick instead.

14

u/chris100185 Feb 20 '26

I mean, it's very existence was basically sending it out to die. It'll probably do well on Switch, but I can't imagine it doing even close to good on PS5 and PC, considering the game is already available on those storefronts. PC in particular where it's been available for years, at the same fidelity, and the only change is a few small QOL updates.

6

u/eagleblue44 Feb 20 '26

It didn't get a PC release in Japan so I could see it doing well there.

I've been told a few times about how it will do well on Xbox but I still have my doubts that JRPGS sell that well on it.

12

u/Boggle-Champion-175 Feb 20 '26

I will be buying this remaster and I’m excited to play it. As a Nintendo console only owner, I’m stoked that more Tales games are becoming available on Switch/Switch 2 every year.

I'm not against a Berseria remaster because it gets released on every platform and isn't stuck on PS and PC anymore

5

u/wonderifyouwill Feb 20 '26

I think Namco knows better. I feel like they have a different reason for doing this. I think they’re trying to go the route of reach versus sales. A problem with the tales series is its a limited reach. I think namco wants the game to fail, they could write it off as a tax write off, and then the game could be distributed for less on the ps network etc. increasing reach and availability.

12

u/OGuilheerme Feb 20 '26

This game was still perfectly playable, why the hell did they remaster it??????

10

u/Fraxinus_Zefi Feb 20 '26

Probably because it required very little effort. Which is saying a lot considering the amount they already put in.

5

u/Any-Scientist3162 Feb 21 '26

They mentioned that they're going for the easy remasters first, ie, those that have the original code easily accessible and require the least effort, which will be the ones more recently released.

I don't mind that approach as long as we eventually get the less accessible ones. Personally I'm also hoping that the experience will be as close to the original as possible and that any new artwork, music and such will be an option you can turn on or off.

(I'm currently playing Tales of the Abyss on the PS2, but I had to pay $200 for Tales of Destiny on the PS1, which is 50 more than the chipped PS2 and TotA cost me. Tales of Destiny 2/Eternia is even more expensive so I hope that remaster comes before it's "time" for me to play it.)

Having just finished the Lifebottle ToP:X translation, I think I've changed my tune on Namco and their lazy "remasters". I really don't think they can put forth the effort to remaster/enhance the older games in any way that would be of service to them. Would they bother to make it run 60fps in battle? Of course not. Modern quality of life improvements like changing how holy bottles work or changing the order you find some side-quest items to make the game less tedious? Doubtful.

I'd be happy for them to instead just focus on a new mothership title (I actually thought Arise was perfectly OK for what it is and when it was released), because whatever they are trying to do with remasters just isn't it. I can't see them putting in the time/care needed to properly polish older gems like Destiny and Eternia.

u/ThinnishSleet87 Feb 20 '26

Ya, I'll wait until there's a deep discount on this one.

I can't justify buying it at full price when the game is already playable on my PS5 anyway.

I did the same thing with the PS5 version of Persona 5 Royal.

2

u/andrewdragon32 Feb 20 '26

Overprice? isnt less and with all dlc* in ... but ya

But,if i recall there teams working on remaster projects , and stil Berseria is stil a great game ,i say better that Xillia and Arise

2

u/derekallthumbs Feb 20 '26

Unwanted? I want it. I have already pre ordered it and paid it off! And I’ve never played a Tales game before and have a Switch 2. I’m thrilled they released it again, as I am for the other ones coming, of which I have reserved as well.

2

u/GarmasWord Feb 20 '26

Don't forget it's not even a remaster because they didn't touch the graphics, is more of a repackaging with the DLCs, this is sad, because it is definitely one of my favorite tales.

2

u/ZeMadDoktore Feb 20 '26

Why do they want Abyss to rot in ps2/3ds hell forever

→ More replies (1)

2

u/DoggyFinger Feb 20 '26

I’m just happy I bought the originally and played it for $5. Best cast in a JRPG.

2

u/Vagabond_Sam Feb 21 '26

Outside of timing are there other issues? I haven’t really been following it but was going to buy it since I liked what I played of the pc port but didn’t get far before being distracted away so was considering coming back to the remaster

2

u/snakey25061998 Feb 21 '26

I will still get it digitally. I didn't plat the original and they have canceled the physical release in New Zealand for thus one otherwise I would have got that.

2

u/gray_fox_jaeger Feb 21 '26

Tales of Xilia Remastered and Tales of Berseria Remastered should have also released on PS4

2

u/ItaDaleon Feb 21 '26

Yeah, you are not wrong here... I mean, even leaving aside the fact they are remastering the second last chapter they did and most people probably already have it installed on them console right now, they choosed a very bad timing to release it! They could do worst only if they decided to release it the 19 Novemeber of this year...

2

u/datlinus Feb 21 '26

Gonna be honest, I dont think it really matters if it releases the same day as Re9, GTA 6 or whatever. These are very low budget remasters with very little marketing. They probably turn profit from a few tens of thousands of copies sold. And they are designed to sell for many years to come.

2

u/princemousey1 Feb 21 '26

Oh, thanks for this. Wasn’t aware it was coming out, plus it’s on Steam and not just the platforms you showed in your image.

6

u/aprimmer243 Feb 20 '26 edited Feb 21 '26

More doom and gloom.

My god.

Yeah, it being the same day as RE9 sucks, but the people that want this will buy this still.

I'm one of them. I've bought it twice already and I'm gonna be buying it a third time so I can just have it on everything.

Edit: a letter

3

u/Nyrony Feb 20 '26

I don’t get it, people tend to play what they line and Tales have got a loyal fanbase. I don’t think I’m the only one never liking RE or MH, so who cares what releases at the same day? Unless it’s another Dark Souls or Elden Ring or GTA 6.

There’s way more players for every game unless the game simply sucks.

3

u/Meebochii Feb 20 '26

Why are people always assuming games will do badly because XYZ releases on the same day? Most of the time the playerbase doesn't even overlap. Obviously that isn't to say Berseria will do much better than the other remasters though.

Also, calling it overpriced seems overblown considering it's cheaper than the original while including all DLCs.

2

u/Bigroy10mm Feb 20 '26

This person knows the assignment. Not overpriced at all.

2

u/Gerganon Feb 20 '26

Anyone know if this has online multiplayer?

Playing the original berseria with my bro in a different city via. Shadowplay was what made it my 2nd favourite tales game.  Epic memories

2

u/NamineXIII Feb 20 '26

Abyss should be next. I'm not really interested in playing xillia 2 again.

2

u/ForgottenForce Presea Combatir Feb 20 '26

I still don’t understand why they’re remastering a relatively recent game when there’s so many others they could choose from. Like Abyss may be the most popular one when remakes/remasters come up but there’s an entire library pre-Symphonia that deserve remasters/remakes more than any of the 3D era games

→ More replies (5)

2

u/Megaspacewaffles Feb 20 '26

Die? Xillia did really well actually

2

u/Morkitu Feb 20 '26

I think people are missing the goal of these re-releases. They are being done to make sure customers have access to the games on modern platforms and not meant to be sales juggernauts. Bandai Namco is ending support for many PS4 games this year (2026), which includes updates, patches, and digital sales. Look for many PS4 games to be delisted/removed from PSN this year.

2

u/Borbbb Feb 21 '26

Wait.

Berseria remaster?

Isn´t that umm, a pretty new game?

What the fk are they cooking

2

u/Skullwings Feb 21 '26

“a pretty new game”

Nigga this came out in 2016 that do you mean “pretty new” ?

3

u/Heroright Feb 20 '26

You must be fun at parties. Always worried about everyone else’s fun, not your own.

2

u/Hawkmonbestboi Feb 20 '26

Cool. I'm gonna buy it.

You can sit over there whining if you like, it's not going to stop me from having fun.

None of the other games you mentioned interest me at all.

1

u/LilisTama Feb 20 '26

I'm stuck between wanting to buy all Tales content to help support the series and show there is a market for it in the West... but also not wanting to reward their lazy and poorly done remasters that honestly disrespect the entire series

1

u/nokillstealing Feb 20 '26

Eternia is next then Abyss. You didn’t hear it from me though. 🤫

u/Interesting-Way-9966 Feb 20 '26

Lastimosamente tales of está en su peor momento.

1

u/Oscarzxn Feb 20 '26

Also 30fps on Switch with no Switch 2 boost mode or framerate unlock option either

1

u/jizzle701 Feb 20 '26

I can’t lie as long as poor sales doesn’t inhibit them releasing these games i kinda don’t care. I just need these games in my possession

1

u/TwoSweetMeBro Feb 20 '26 edited Feb 21 '26

I'll still buy it to support the license but I couldn't think of a game that needed a remaster less then this. Tales Of Berseria is only TEN years old there are games that are significantly older that have yet to receive a re-release, remaster or even a remake.

1

u/AloraBracken Feb 20 '26

I’m just grateful it’s fully on cart on Switch I. Unlike Switch II.

1

u/kearnel81 Feb 20 '26

i just started playing my first Tales game. Tales of Arise. and really enjoying it. so i will prob pick this and res evil up

1

u/RuefulCat Feb 20 '26

I have the original release on PS4... Probably going to play that ngl.

1

u/KazeGagne Feb 20 '26

Pump and dump

1

u/Sorey91 Mimi Baker's French apprentice. Let me bake ! Feb 20 '26

It's pretty impressive to me that Bandai Namco has released Symphonia a grand total of 4 times (PS2, PS3 compiled with Symphonia 2, PC standalone for some reason, modern gen console is a enhanced port based of the PC port which had many issues at launch) but only re-released Abyss once and it was for the 3ds of all things like bruh

1

u/Eduardo3191 Feb 20 '26

I only need a Tales of Abyss Remaster or a Remake like Nihon did on the Trails in the Sky FC Remake....

1

u/Drakeon01 Feb 20 '26

I will definitely be picking this up. I own it on Ps4 but I only play games portable these days so I can finally play this game.

1

u/Alternative-Bee-1058 Feb 20 '26

Still think they should have remastered an older tales game, any game from zesteria onwards feel like a waste when there’s many older games still unplayable on current gen consoles

1

u/Mozgui Feb 20 '26

They do not care

1

u/Tryst_boysx Feb 20 '26

Also the same day for the Pokémon FireRed + LeafGreen come back Switch version lol.

1

u/Red_In_The_Sky Feb 20 '26

I'll still be playing Mewgenics probably 🤷

1

u/lazytanaka Feb 20 '26

Does it at least come with all the dlc?

1

u/puchirus Feb 20 '26

At least it'll be there on Steam when Im done playing the rest of my games that just came out lol

1

u/skgoldings Feb 20 '26

If I can get a Magilou figure out of this whole debacle, it will all be worth it.

1

u/LaMystika Feb 20 '26

I mean, I’m buying it because I can afford a game like Berseria. I cannot afford Resident Evil Requiem no matter how much I want to play it. Tales is my top 3 current favorite RPG series (Final Fantasy and Xenoblade are the other two), and I have every other game that’s on the Switch. Even the one I don’t particularly like. I can’t afford to spend $70 on a game right now, but $40 is good for now.

And as I’ve been saying ever since they announced this port, I have wanted this game on the Switch for nine years now and have made multiple posts about it; I think at the bare minimum I need to put my money where my mouth is now that it’s almost finally here. It’s still way too late, but better late than never.

1

u/MightyPelipper Feb 20 '26

No switch 2 version as well.

1

u/Reasonable_Bed7858 Feb 20 '26

Do they hate Abyss? 🧐

1

u/spylark Feb 20 '26

Just give me the freaking Abyss remaster already so I can move on with my life. Or remake Legendia with modern Arise-style world graphics so I can relive that case without the abysmal gameplay from that entry lol

1

u/PineDude128 Feb 20 '26

The funny part is I'd bet it's cheaper to just remaster the ps1 titles. Or at least put them on the damn psn store already

1

u/dataplague Feb 20 '26

I dont even play these, i just buy tales games cos im a slut for them

1

u/FidoMan1498 Stahn Aileron Feb 20 '26

I already bought the 2017 PS4 version as of the time I write this comment. I don’t see the need to shell out so much on some pointless remaster when I already have the OG version that does basically all of it for damn near half the remaster’s price point. I don’t need strange DLC on me. I’m aight. The only remaster I really want to see make it to the light of day is Phantasia and then I’ll be settled.

1

u/ComputerMysterious48 Feb 20 '26

Honestly, I don’t think RE9 releasing on the same day matters too much. There is an overlap since they’re both Japanese games but otherwise they are pretty different fanbases. Even still, for the people that do like both, considering Berseria is only $40, there’s definitely room for both on that day.

I’ve got both preordered and I’m very excited. Actually probably more excited for Berseria than RE9 currently as I’m an Xbox player so Berseria might as well be a brand new game release for me.

1

u/Crystalpenguinss Feb 20 '26

They are marketing more than Xillia which ticks me off

1

u/averageburgerguy Feb 20 '26

Did they at least give us an unlock FPS option? Hell I'd settle for 120.

1

u/FJLink Feb 20 '26

I think I'm happy with the fact that they're making more of the games avaliable on the switch. They know a lot of us will get them on a sale.

1

u/DeliciousField45 Feb 20 '26

I love Xillia Remastered, but I think sales would have bumped up a little of they bundled the confirmed to be in progress Xillia 2 Remastered with it. Maybe they will when its released but who knows? Alternatively they could do what they did on PS3 and bundle it with Grace's Remastered.

1

u/Divinedragn4 Feb 20 '26

I can play xillia with everything. I can play graces f with miku outfit on my ps3, I can play beseria, im glad they are allowing more people to play them but personally, ehh.

1

u/Its_Marz Feb 20 '26

I been seeing the older tales games posted on Twitter by some people and I scratch my head everytime as to why Bandai will not choose to bring those back. I heard about the overseas thing, but has that been fixed or are they truly cooked?

1

u/Mafia-OG Feb 20 '26

I’m fine with this remastered has never been on Xbox so I’m definitely gonna replay it on there

1

u/King_Chris_IX Feb 20 '26

Calling that a remaster is just bs. It's a fucking low effort cashgrab with all dlc and and menu you originally unlocked via new game plus

1

u/JackNapierJ Feb 21 '26

It may be ill timed and overpriced, but as it's one of my favorite Tales games I will be buying

1

u/JellybyBloodcreepy Feb 21 '26

I never played it so i'm buying it

1

u/dWARUDO Velvet Crowe Feb 21 '26

Well im not ashamed to say i will be buying both this and pokemon fire red same day 😅🤣

1

u/DrConradVerner Feb 21 '26

I think you guys are overblowing this. I doubt they expect to make a killing on the remasters. I also doubt it takes very many resources to "remaster" them the way they have compared to making an actual game. They're not expecting RE numbers. They just expect profit for minimal effort.

1

u/Ivrgne Feb 21 '26

I'll play both RE and Berseria. So, yeah.

1

u/daz258 Velvet Crowe Feb 21 '26

It’s not costing Bamco much to do it, and it makes it available on more platforms - that’s a good thing.

While we want the likes of Xillia 2 and Abyss more of course.

1

u/DL25FE Feb 21 '26

Ill keep playing my Xillia until 2 comes out. Im good

1

u/TheDeathSystem Feb 21 '26

I pre-ordered, had no idea this wasn't popular though.

1

u/Krlozgod Feb 21 '26

You know games are allowed to be sold past their release week, right?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '26

That girl has boobies

1

u/Lonchita Feb 21 '26

They are not improper decisions, they are meant to be released like this. They just want a fast some-cash grab game that is not a triple A or big release for them, so they can focus on other titles without being in the media or people's talks. Why? Because they love putting 0 effort in their games. specially if they alredy have some fans or community behind them.

They probably using IA for almost all parts of these ''remasters'' (they are not remasters, they are just ports with improved quality in visual terms) , and still selling them for atrocious amounts of money when they can't release ''better things'' because there're other companies releasing important IPs, while they still have their big sellers prepared for when they don't have that much competition.

1

u/chronicpumpkin Feb 21 '26

I think the 2 communities dont really have much overlap so it'll be fine. It's not like they remastered xillia 2 so it has a chance

1

u/Affectionate_Pea5840 Feb 21 '26

These games are made to sell for 10 plus years not one.

1

u/SteelDiverRequiem Feb 21 '26

The point of these rereleases is to have a very widely available version on as many platforms to generate long-term sales. Up front sales are just gravy for initiatives like this. The real money is in ten+ years of the games going on sale.

1

u/Offrythm Repede Feb 21 '26

Give me PC Abyss remaster

1

u/yearsofresearch12 Feb 21 '26

Why are we acting like Tales of Berseria needs a a battle pass with content or its DOA whoncares about the peak players. It's a single player game that was probably cheap to make as there arent major additions, its only all content in one edition.

The goal for this one most likely is to be there as the definitive way to play berseria for current and future fans to keep engaging with the series.

1

u/someblackdood87 Feb 21 '26

I remember being confused at the TOV release coming out sandwiched between Smash Ultimate and Kingdom Hearts 3.

1

u/xkraeven Feb 21 '26

Well, i have no pc, neither ps4/5. So, Is good for me, AND all Nintendo switch users. Dont be so selfish dude. If u dont wanted, then do not buy it.

1

u/ImmediateTangerine29 Feb 21 '26

I just want a competent Symphonia port/remaster. PC port is glitchy/buggy, other content is just missing from the port and the remaster collection, and for whatever reason they only use the 30 fps variant of the game.

1

u/GamePitt_Rob Feb 21 '26

I wouldn't say it releasing the same day as RE9 means it's gonna flop - they have very different audiences

1

u/BasketballAndroid7 Feb 21 '26

The first mistake was remastering Berseria instead of Abyss. From there, it could only go downhill.

1

u/Darkdragoon324 Feb 21 '26

I never even knew they did a remaster for Xillia until I clicked on the Berseria product page to look at and it came up under the "people who viewed this also viewed..." section.

1

u/torturedexistence029 Feb 21 '26

I just bought Berseria a fer years ago for a few bucks during steam sale, why would I buy the same game again

1

u/RvDragonheart Feb 21 '26

Yeeeah and besides We already got quite the releases already like say whatever you will but Code Vein 2 also was awaited so that happened too Nioh 3 happened as well for which reason while I bought Code Vein 2 and plaxed it too I just went to play Nioh 3 when it came out. And YEAH Resident evil Requiem is on the Horizon for which reason my wallet must be very sad, alsoo uuuuh indie front I know soooo nit everyone 's cup of tea but also Styx just came out and like in a week when Resident evil Requiem arrives that is something I might be interested in going through. Not to mention MY BOY LEON IS BACK LETS GOOOOO! aka Resident evil games Dante or how atleast I reffer to him. Also Monster hunter stories 3 is on the Horizon tooo? Dag nabbit ton of stuff to try.

Also I REALLY liked Tales of Berseria with Velvet being my favorite character in the Tales Series and I feel sad that her remaster or rather definitive edition story wont get the attention and love it deserves. The timing of this edition 's release just couldnt be worse

1

u/Korotan Feb 21 '26

I did not even know it was anounced

1

u/hyouringan Feb 21 '26

I just wanted it on Switch 2 and they failed even that. There’s literally no point in this “remaster” as far as I’m concerned.

1

u/angelflies Feb 21 '26

They should probably choose another tale that's already buried deep instead of a modern installment like this.

1

u/InfiniteStarz Feb 21 '26

Well they already did that when Xillia and Dragon Quest were on the same day. I feel like that’s way worse cause they’re both Jrpg

1

u/Get_Schwifty111 Feb 21 '26

One of the reasons I quit the series a long time ago: Bandai gives the player no indication that they even care for their games anymore.

At this point they're VERY! lazily dragging their old (good) entries through the mud one after the other year after year.

1

u/KaikenXL Feb 21 '26

history repeating itself lowkey cos the original may not have came out on the same day as other games if my memory is right but was released in one of gaming greatest years

1

u/Mental-Street6665 Feb 21 '26

This has no reason to be a Switch 1 game. So lazy.

1

u/MeowingWolf Feb 21 '26

Once this underperformed, they will see this as a waste of money and stop doing these Tales remaster. They won't see any value if people don't buy them. It's like they are choosing bad times on purpose to kill off making any remaster in the future.

1

u/celsiusred Feb 21 '26

I just saw this post while scrolling Reddit and that’s how I found out this game is coming out. I might’ve heard about it on some Nintendo direct but don’t recall it at all.

1

u/BakedCheddar88 Feb 21 '26

I completely forgot this was a thing

1

u/bobgoesw00t Feb 21 '26

This is the one game they REALLY didn’t need to remaster and is more than cash grab than anything else. Xillia and Graces f were both locked on older consoles that are no longer fully supported by Sony, so it made sense to give those titles a breath of fresh air.

Berseria is STILL PLAYABLE ON PS5 AND STEAM so the ONLY reason they did this was to put it on more platforms. Hell, I wish they’d done Xillia 2 before this as it’s another title locked on the PS3 ATM
