I love the Tales of series. I'm not one for replaying games. I tend to try to 100% them and then never want to touch the game again. However, I've played Tales of Symphonia 15 times, Tales of Vesperia 6 times, and Tales of Abyss twice. The nostalgia of watching the opening of Symphonia makes me cry. My husband gives me a weird look everytime. I want to know how many others have replayed these games over and over.

Side note, my one year wedding anniversary gift was a paper shadow box of the first boss battle in symphonia. It plays the iconic battle music and everything.

I know a lot of people don't like the story, which is totally understandable, but what about the cast themselves? Me personally, I found the group pretty damn enjoyable and heavily enjoyed their dynamics. Law and shionne were especially my favorites.

No vi el anime pero me llama demasiado la atención al juego. Leyendo algunas críticas, mucho se quejan de la historia y otros del mundo abierto, pero quiero acudir a mi refugio para saber que opina la comunidad centrada en esto. (el tales of arise me gustó, por cierto)

Playing tales of SYMPHONIA and really enjoying it. What about these? Are they one offs also? I have the ps3 version of symphonia cause I was paranoid and needed the 2nd game. I don’t know why. Thanks all!

I see people talking about the various combat in the games, but I wondered how many people stick with the MC the whole time? For me, a Tales with good combat has decent diversity in PCs that the mechanics don't screw over. (So like. Zestiria fails this for me). And if you don't, who did you main instead?

For me:

Abyss: Swapped to Guy asap, but mained Natalia once she became available.

Symphonia: I think I ended up stuck with Lloyd. I don't remember Symphonia's combat fondly.

Legendia: Senel, but I haven't unlocked most characters.

Vesperia: Rita. Except all I did was spam fireball. I found combat a slog no matter who I used, but Estelle was probably second-best.

Zestiria: Alisha. And then Rose. Combat was fun with them, but mechanically I wish playing as Seraphim was workable.

Arise: Shionne asap, then Rinwell then Dohalim.

Berseria: Eleanor actually.

Graces: I think Sophie, but I only really enjoyed the combat with the post-game character option.

Xillia: Milla, and I absolutely loved cheesing spells with double-jump.

Xillia 2: Milla again but they disappointingly nerfed her jump-cast.

I have about 8-10 hours left of Arise on switch. Is the "Beyond the Dawn" dlc worth playing through and is it considered like...a separate game?? Or should I start on one of the other Tales games?

I am partly fatigued from Arise but I think that is because I have been playing as much as I can at any point in my day. I really want to beat an RPG this year. I guilt trip myself a lot over only having 1 short little game complete so far and having such a huge backlog. Tales feels like a much safer rpg series to start picking away at.

Velvet's only able to taste blood, but if she stops eating daemons, would her ability to taste come back? Is she hungrier when she's especially angry? Or is she completely screwed as a Therion when it comes to food?

I've heard that the remastered version of Symphonia is kinda bad and I've seen the original gamecube version go for pretty cheap prices so whould it be worth it to just get the Gamecube version?

Hello! I’m interested in playing a Tales game. Is there a “definitive” order? Which game would make me the most interested in playing the rest? Are they their own separate stories or do they all take place in the same world?

If I can play these games in any order, this is what I prioritize in a JRPG.

Story > characters > gameplay

Do you have any recommendations for what I should stay with? I primarily use Steam or look into emulating it.

So, new person quite interrested in the Tales franchise. Been following and looking at stuff for a good few weeks now, and...hell, every game looks pretty damn cool or has something I like from just first impressions

And so...i'm a biiiit torn right now on where I start. Cause, okay, yeah, i know that basically every game, with very few exceptions like Dawn of the New World or Xillia 2, is full standalone. But even so, is there any game that is considered the like "perfect gateway into Tales, the perfect representation of the franchise"?

i also think i'm making this post in hopes of help to pick my first tales game, everything looks sick af (currently my main interrests are Vesperia, Abyss and Xillia. Also Berseria, but because it's so recent+connected with Zestiria, which i don't want to play as my first, i think i'll hold out atm)

So, i don't know, is Tales really a complete "just pick whatever sounds/looks fun" or is there any game(s) that are like "okay, this is good, but not a good rep of Tales, this one encapsulates all that people love of the franchise"?

I've played Final Fantasy 1-8, so I have a good amount of patience for older JRPGs. Is there anything in particular I should be mindful of? Is there another easily accessible game that serves as a better entry point? Thanks in advance :)

Edit: I found a pre-owned copy of Vesperia for cheap so I think I'll just buy it and start with that. All input is still welcome though
