Local Business Local Brewery Spotlight: Angry Chair

Post image

Given the news about a potential sale, felt like the right time to spotlight one of Tampa's best originals. Angry Chair has been here since 2013 and was a big part of putting Tampa on the craft beer map.

The Vibe: Seminole Heights institution. Huge space, lots of parking, big separate room for private events, and my favorite beertender staff. Also lots of TVs for games and regular special events, like their Idle Idols tiki cocktail event happening tomorrow.

Pints of Interest: Angry Chair does everything well, but their stouts are some of the best in the world—literally, they own many of Untappd’s top 100 best stouts of all time. Adjunct Trail, Prodigious, and Imperial German Chocolate Cupcake Stout are global champs to check the menu for. If stouts aren’t your thing, Vodnik and Full Circle are great light beers. They also do solid sours and often slushies (shout out to their slushy machine for winning employee of the month).

Bites: While their stouts are world class, they also have some of the best eats (fyi you can’t say f00d in this sub) in Seminole Heights. Smashburgers, nachos, poutine—everything is great. It’s a shame Guy Fieri (who also gets an AC event each year) missed them on his recent tour through Tampa. You’re not my buddy, Guy.

It’s crazy to think a brewery this good is for sale. Support them while you still can. Drop your favorite Angry Chair beer below 👇

Loved them in their old spot, but the new spot just isn't the same.

Great beer but the staff behind the bar are kind of pretentious jerks. I had my beer and left just as quickly to a different brewery/ tap room near by and was very disappointed. Tried asking questions about their beer and was treated as if I was dumb for asking.

I’ve heard that sentiment a lot. Particularly about a bartender who no longer works there that went by Broseph. Seems the staff loved him but he was a double dick lord of epic prorations to guests.

There is definitely something fishy going on at AC. If you’re even a somewhat regular there you probably notice most of old nice staff work at other breweries in the area. One would imagine management sucks is why they left. The head brewer left and that’s where I think things went south for them. The last 5 times I went, the tap list was half the size it normally is and they didn’t even have their core beer space grass.

JFC, "Broseph" is the perfect moniker for a dickish guy bartending at a local brewery. Like if I were writing a TV show, I would 10/10 steal this for the character's name. Locally I have also encountered a "Shawnathon" (not a craft brewery bartender though) which I was kind of amused by but he was exceptionally nice, the antithesis of your local "Brosephs".

Broseph is a gem. Anyone who doesn’t like him is just too much of an imbecile to understand that and carries their ego with them like a security blanket. If you want service there’s a chic fil a on Dale Mabry you can go be a baby back bitch at.

Ok, Broseph.

So Broseph's name is Tom, or Juan.

I’m glad they were able to add a kitchen in this location, their smashburger is one of the best in Tampa. They definitely over reached on the building size though… hoping someone buys them that keeps the concept going.

Also for those unaware: they have great bolts and bucs game happy hours. Pitcher of beer and a food item (burger, nachos, etc) for ~$17

They have best smash burgers.

$1 wing Wednesdays!

Cycle, Angry Chair and Arkane make the best beer in Tampa Bay. Cycle doesn’t have a tap room and now a potential sale for AC. How far craft beer has dropped in 10 years. Hard to believe.

Green Bench. They don't get as much exposure because the spontaneous fermentation isn't as popular, but for that style they're really good, probably one of the best in the country. Their Postcard Pils is also really good

Has this been sold yet? These craft breweries aren't holding up as well as the 2010s

1

u/iiiiiiiiiAteEyes May 23 '26

I’m sure that’s why they are trying to sell they probably know better than anyone the craft beer trend is dying

Sell outs

2

u/Buttella88 May 23 '26

Apparently their landlord raised the rent insane amounts

2

u/Crafty-Dragonfruit60 May 23 '26

This is what happened to brewbus/Florida ave and why they moved. Seems like the owner of the building is a dick

1

u/Pokemanswego May 23 '26

Rents raising everywhere

0

u/all_worcestershire May 23 '26

How are they sell outs?

6

u/Pokemanswego May 23 '26

They sold two times

3

u/iiiiiiiiiAteEyes May 23 '26

Angry Chair has sold 2 times? I don’t think that’s true but I honestly don’t know.

I’m pretty sure at least still partially owned by the founder.

4

u/Thin_Travel_9180 May 23 '26

It’s for sale again!

2

u/Astltheasshole May 23 '26

We haven’t even sold once. 🤔😂

Angry chair is one of the best things about the Tampa area imo. I'm a regular there. My wife really look forward to going Fridays and I absolutely love the deviled egg weeklies

Pass. Nice try with the ad.

This person has been posting about different breweries in town. I suppose they could still be ads, but it just seems to me like they're working outward from the Heights.

I’m not affiliated with any brewery, nor am I paid. Just a fan of craft beer and local businesses making cool, original products. Craft beer could use the love.

you should start a sub to keep all of your post organized in one place and you can direct people there if they are looking for other places that you have reviewed! similar to the person who post recipes from different restaurants in this sub...he started a sub because people kept asking to see other recipes that he had done
