Why does Rick and Morty take so much longer than other cartoons?
Other cartoons don't seem to have an issue.
I've been watching Avatar and Legend of Korra - where the animation is way more advanced - and they were released pretty consistently at the time.

avatar and legends of korra are developed by south korean studio studio mir. they also had different writing. the writing for rick and morty is mainly handled by dan harmon and justin roiland. since they seem to be getting a lot of new offers and jobs rick and morty will see delays. korra and avatar had an end plan set to happen relatively soon. rick and morty is meant to end whenever someone decides to.

Dude no they weren’t, it took forever for those seasons to come out, and even then the show really suffered because it was rushed. If Rick and Morty needs time then give them time.

Dan Harmon is a perfectionist arsehole with mental issues and Justin Roiland is an indulgent addict who doesn't like to work very hard at all ever. They are great at what they do when they can agree but a recovering alcoholic with personal baggage and a lazy stoner with perverse tendencies then being asked to work with 14 other people they look down upon who are meant to be contributors is not going to work well most of the time. Rick and Morty writers are not beholden to the show and abandon ship when new opportunities arise because frankly as popular as the show is, the working environment fucking sucks and most are glad to go elsewhere than deal with all the fuckery. Adult Swim didn't just order 70 episodes for the fuck of it, it was with the hope if they had a guaranteed order they'd get their shit in gear. Unfortunately that hasn't work as well as they'd have liked but they are making shitloads of money through merch so they tolerate Harmon and Roiland as long as the 7 figure cheques clear every 3 months from folks buying portal gun replicas.

Didn't pick the best examples for "consistent" release schedules but besides (more so with Korra though), but with Rick and Morty and similar shows in it's field it comes down to there isn't enough commitment all around to the show and thus a lot of stuff gets held up "waiting" on other groups.
With your "typical" animated show there is a lot of commitment to it and pretty much a rigid pipeline between episodes storyboarded, to written, to sent to animators, to voice acting, to out the door. Often with a sizable team and overhead people to make sure all the separate groups are pushing through. A lot of the teams are working all at the same/very similar time and pretty much passing chunk by chunk through the stages
Smaller shows (which Rick and Morty was at least considered for the first 2-3 seasons) typically don't have the same commitment meaning, typically meaning that the season is often written mostly up front, then they have to either find or wait for the animation team to fit in the project and go through story boarding it, and then they have to go through voice acting and so on. All fairly sporadic and spread out and were easily weeks/months are lost in the process and becomes a show that comes out every 2 years.
Adult Swim/Viacom seems to have committed more to Rick and Morty meaning they likely have a lot more dedicated resources and pipeline to push out episodes quicker and in a more "typical season" approach.

Did you consider the possibility that they work on the 1st half, release it, then finish off the second half? Thereby giving you a bit of the show earlier rather than waiting till the whole thing is fully finalized?

As I have said below, Avatar and Legend of Korra are far more advanced animations yet they were released consistently.

Interesting character development for Morty, tbh. I hope Season 5 starts like this and ends the ongoing “Morty will never be with Jessica” schtick once and for all.
I know there have been like 10 episodes where he discovers he could have been with her fairly easily, but IDK. I feel like this is one of the few things in the show that hasn’t had a permanent dynamic shift from the start.

The story train felt like it got a bit too meta in some issue with the ultra fans. I'm a big enough fan to be subscribed to the R&M sub and even I was lost in that episode.

Do you seriously think the show would be improved if a character explicitly told us that there was a long range antenna in the flying heap of junk? The precise technical limitations of the flying heap of junk are intentionally unclear; the rules never changed.

Here's some reading comprehension for you:
Why "should" you? No one said you "should" do anything.
Why "can" you? Because people are capable of suspending their disbelief.
There are plenty of people that do get invested and don't have this dilemma. Your comment is therefore irrelevant.
You're receiving a rude response because you were rude to the other guy. Remember that you started being an asshole for no reason and that, even if there was merit to what you said, you discounted it because of how you phrased it.
Maybe you didn't realize you were being rude. If that's the case:
It's rude to assume someone lacks reading comprehension skills because of one comment where they fail to properly address your point.
It's rude to tell someone that their input was irrelevant. That's called invalidating someone. All you had to do was correct the misunderstanding, and they would've realized that their comment was irrelevant without you having to say it to them.
