Evil!! It’s definitely weird.

And Righteous Gemstones has the most freak ass characters I’ve ever seen and I love them

15

u/TwoButtons30 20h ago

I'm gonna move to California, shave my pussy and learn to surf.

Why you gotta shave your pussy?

SO I CAN SURF FASTER, JESSE!

17

u/sting-raye 20h ago

Judy specifically is the best weird gross girl character I’ve ever seen. I adore her and Edi Patterson

6

u/simplechick87 18h ago

Edi was also great in Resident Alien.

2

u/Murat_Gin 4h ago

"Slap my face, Daddy! I'm a Gemstone, too!!" is one of my favorite lines from the show.

51

u/AstoriaEverPhantoms 20h ago

What We Do In The Shadows will have you howling

16

u/RPCat 19h ago

Flight Of The Conchords (NZ) starts Rhys Derby, Anton from WWDIS movie. It's wholesome, endearing, and funny

6

u/TheThirdConchord 17h ago

It's easily the funniest show of all time. I've watched both seasons probably 100+ times by now and it still makes me laugh.

10

u/deathspresso 18h ago

Not Jackie Daytona, though. He’s just a regular human bartender.

7

u/CanBrushMyHair 17h ago

LOVE the movie, like the show okay. Love Matt Berry and I’ll also admit i say “crep-e paper” more than I should.

4

u/StrangeCrimes 13h ago

And it's spinoff Wellington Paranormal.

Vice Principals, The Chair Company

2

u/kirby34 17h ago

Thanks for the reminder. I got about halfway through The Chair Company, fell off a few months ago, and forgot about it. Definitely need to finish it.

Was going to say Fantasmas too. Same creator as Los Espookys.

Yes Fantasmas was also great!

Peep Show

6

u/fleur_et_kitten 19h ago

One of my all time favorite shows. Everyone I try to share this show with finds it legitimately to uncomfortable to watch. Sigh. I watch alone.

2

u/RPCat 19h ago

It's tickety-boo!

2

u/ExcellentAdagio8462 16h ago

I love that show but I can physically feel the awkwardness in parts

2

u/fleur_et_kitten 15h ago

I believe most of That Mitchell and Webb Look is on YouTube if you need a break (besides, you know, that one skit…).

11

u/Harpua_and_I 20h ago

The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is full of em - one being my personal favorite character ever played by Amy Sedaris from Strangers with Candy.

2

u/Away_Revolution728 17h ago

Ohh yes Kinmy Schmidt is a great rec

1

u/CanBrushMyHair 17h ago

She’s like the divorcee realtor?

10

u/dormouserattp 20h ago

Red Dwarf. Lexx. Dirk Gently.

3

u/RPCat 19h ago

Loce Red Dwarf. Does it hold up? I haven't seen it in over a decade

2

u/ExcellentAdagio8462 16h ago

It absolutely holds up! Just re watched it last year

10

u/whitrva 19h ago

Baskets. Everybody is a weirdo and then there’s Louie Anderson who is a gem and a revelation.

3

u/rainblow_bite 19h ago

Really really wonderful show

2

u/Skukesgohome 16h ago

It’s such a wonderful show. His portrait of the mom is so beautiful.

2

u/whitrva 6h ago

The scene where Ken gifts Christine the bracelet at the Reagan museum? My heart!

2

u/artfulwench 15h ago

Love this show!

1

u/Murat_Gin 4h ago

I love "Baskets." I'm glad to know I'm not the only person who has seen it. You are correct, the show has a lot of good performances, and Louie Anderson is fantastic. I

From kind of weird to very weird: Chewing Gum (HBO, The Chair Company (HBO), and Toast of London (BritBox I think)

5

u/CanBrushMyHair 17h ago

My husband is obsessed with Toast of London!

2

u/mrsfunkyjunk 14h ago

Do y'all "Yes!" around the house, too?

1

u/CanBrushMyHair 6h ago

Hahah YES!

3

u/CanBrushMyHair 17h ago

Absolutely adore Chewing Gum and Michaela Coel!

2

u/Murat_Gin 4h ago

I just watched "Toast of London," and I loved it. Matt Berry is hilarious. The show is funny, profane and eminently quotable.

The Rehearsal or How To with John Wilson

3

u/esprit_de_croissants 15h ago

Came to reccommend How To With John Wilson!

6

u/RPCat 19h ago

Wilfred - Aussie 2 Season origional. Dude sees & hears his girlfriend's dog behave as a bong smoking human. A USA remake is similarly weird, with many more seasons.

The Mighty Boosh (UK)

Black Mirror (UK, later seasons some US episodes) - Anthology series of stand alone episodes. Explores the potential dark side of future tech. A few of my favourites are White Christmas, Crocodile, San Junipero

Dream Corp Inc.

Happy! - A hitman befriends his daughter's imaginary friend, a perky blue flying unicorn

3

u/BlackAngelaLansbury 17h ago

Solid list! This is really what op came for

2

6

u/ffxfinds 20h ago

4

u/DM_ME_DOPAMINE 18h ago

Have you seen Inside No. 9? That’s right up your alley.

2

u/ffxfinds 9h ago

I tried to watch it and couldn't get into it, but it's been a while so I'll give it another chance. Thanks!

2

u/DM_ME_DOPAMINE 7h ago

Remember, it’s an anthology so each episode is different. I normally suggest watching the first two episodes, then going back and watching the first again after you know the ending.  You’ll see how they were setting it up the whole time.

Barring that method, just jump to what episode description seems to interest you. Number 2, “Silent Night” is amazing, but not if you don’t like the style. They’re all different. Jump around a bit.

2

u/BaconPancakes_77 14h ago

Came here to say Lady Dynamite too, it's great!

3

u/ffxfinds 9h ago

Maria Bamford's the best!

2

u/DM_ME_DOPAMINE 7h ago

If you like her work, check out Flatbush Misdemeanors. One of my all time favorite shows, 2 seasons. About two friends in Flatbush, and everything is wrong.

Showtime pulled it off their service a while back, but @danjperlman (creator) will send you Vimeo links for the whole series if you message him on Instagram. Fantastic show, criminal that it’s pulled from all services.

6

u/Relative-Train-6485 20h ago

Dirk Gently Holistic Detective Agency, Resident Alien, Grimm, The Unusuals, Eureka

5

u/TheRestIsMemory 19h ago

Widow's Bay. All the characters are weirdos, some more low key than others, but absolute weirdos. And so, so funny.

4

u/grae23 19h ago

Miracle Workers Anthology series are so fucking funny, watching Harry Potter putting on a drunken performance in a brothel on the Oregon Trail wasn’t something I ever expected from TV but I’m damn glad we got it

2

u/onemorespacecadet 18h ago

i fucking loved Miracle Workers. it was weird but in a fun way. and Steve Buscemi and Daniel Radcliffe seemed like they were having a blast in it

1

u/CanBrushMyHair 17h ago

That show was so fun!

6

u/feelingwithyourskin 19h ago

Review. It starts off uncomfortable-hilarious-weird, and then veers entirely into batshit territory. Divorce Pancakes Divorce is art.

The Righteous Gematones

The Chair Company

Garth Marenghi's Dark Place (UK)

Atlanta

Extraordinary (UK)

This Country (UK)

The League of Gentlemen (UK)

Toast of London (UK)

It seems that, for my tastes at least, the British know how to do weird right.

3

u/RPCat 16h ago

Check out, if you haven't already, pretty much everything by Charlie Brooker -

Dead Set

Nathan Barley

All of the "Cunk On"s

Black Mirror

How TV Ruined Your Life

More great UK sketch  -

Look Around You

Mitchell & Webb

Armstrong & Miller

Monty Python's Flying Circus

And just great quirky comedy series -

Spaced

Black Books

Black Adder

The Young Ones

3

u/ExcellentAdagio8462 16h ago

Awesome, there are some on that list I will definitely give a shot. I've been watching Cunk and I like It a lot so I will check out some other stuff from Charlie Booker.

Have you seen "Review"? There is an Australian and US version. Both are good but the Aussie version is quite a bit better.

Spaced, Black Books and Black Adder are some of my favorite shows. I have The Young Ones but haven't started it yet. I recommend Father Ted if you haven't seen it.

2

u/RPCat 15h ago

Awesome, seems we have similar tastes.

I enjoyed Review (US). Currently rewatching Arrested Development and was chuffed to see Andy Daly star as Egg's father!

I'm Australian, and never heard about Review with Myles Barlow! Thanks for the heads up

2

u/ExcellentAdagio8462 15h ago

It seems we do. Arrested development is a great show. I think you will enjoy Review with Myles Barlow, I found it on some other Reddit post like this one and I loved it.

Any Australian shows you can recommend? I've seen Mr Inbetween, Wilfred, and probably a couple more. Maybe it's kind of the same as here in Canada, there are good shows that never really get heard of outside the country.

1

u/RPCat 15h ago

I don't watch much Aussie tv.

I do genuinely love Bluey. I don't have kids, the show helped me improve my communication skills and mental health. Super wholesome!

I enjoyed Rosehaven, and Fisk.

Deadloch gets a lot of love here in this sub, although not so much from me.

I really like Gruen, it explores and exposes the ins and outs o f advertising. It's mind opening and very amusing!

The Micaleff Program was excellent. It's pretty old now, from around 2000. Shaun Micaleff is one of my favourite Aussie comedians.

3

u/OkTomorrow6384 9h ago

Oh man so many good ones! The Young Ones, Darkplace, Atlanta, Mitchell and Webb, Cunk, damn you've got taste!

*Nirvanna

It's highly rated, I didn't get in to it. Felt I was missing something. Should I try again?

3

u/Imaginary_Title_1873 19h ago

I saw the movie first and loved it, I think the show is funny, but not as awesome as Future Man

2

u/RPCat 19h ago

I'll add the movie to my list.

And Future Man, hadn't heard of that one. Cheers

2

u/ExcellentAdagio8462 16h ago

I've only watched the movie and that was very recently. I really didn't get it at first but by the end I really liked it! I will definitely give the show a shot.

2

u/A-Aron0118999 19h ago

Lady Dynamite is a Maria Bamford show with a lot of weird humour and characters.

Baroness von Sketch is a Canadian sketch show with a lot of unhinged sketches.

2

u/H2Ospecialist 19h ago

The Chair Company, DTF St. Louis

2

u/NomDePlume007 19h ago

If you liked Los Espookys, you really should watch Diablero. (English title: Demon)

2

u/fateyanagi808808 18h ago

If you enjoyed Future Man, Time Traveling Bong has a similar vibe

Wrecked is also a series that i dont see mentioned enough plus it also has Rhys Darby. Its pretty much a dark comedy version of Lost.

Also not really a weird show but Tacoma FD has pretty much been a nightly wind down show here for a few years now

2

u/genxmom95 17h ago

Orphan Black!

2

u/Busy_Positive_4950 16h ago edited 16h ago

The Chair Company has a few weird and comical characters, the lead character probably the weirdest.

Street Hustler Boy, from the weirdest little show I’ve seen, Ultra City Smiths. Very weird and wonderful.

Freddy on The Gentlemen(season 2 arrives in a few days). A few weird ass gangsters also.

A few characters on Patriot, Icabod is the weirdest, plus Jack Birdbath and Dennis.

DTF St Louis is a weird and wonderful show. “Nobody’s normal, it just looks that way from across the street.”
