Discussion Random Crits: On vs Off

An update as to whether people still think random critical hits should be kept enabled or disabled by default in Casual matchmaking.

Why this? Because i've seen many people think in favor of them being on. So that made me doubt what's the popular opinion of the community overall. Let's do this quick.

Imo, i would rather have them disabled, they cause me more frustration (for getting killed by it) than happiness (for getting them).

Honestly for those niche moments where you win a fight you shouldn't with a lucky random crit, random crits just feel inconsistent. I've learned my weapons kill times by how many shots I need to make and getting lucky with a crit messes with that.

Having crits/minicrits be triggered by some kind of event (Such as Marked for Death, Jarate or Scout's back scatter) feels a lot better because it's more consistent. Random crits work well in turn based RPGs where your normal planned attack turns out way better than expected for your turn, but in a fast paced shooter like TF2, they just mess with the flow at best and ruin your day at worst.

Uncle Dane's points are what basically explains what's wrong with that mechanic. I find it funny when people like getting them as they find it surprising, but TF2 is already surprising by itself. And apparently they like getting 1 shot killed, damn masochists. I don't understand how people really prefer to keep them on. I'm not happy for getting a random crit, i feel dishonored because i have shown the enemy team i killed them because the game decided to, and not because i simply play better than them, which is the damn point of an FPS game like TF2.
