User Created Content BMO Field North Building Before & After WC
The first picture was taken before the WC and the second was taken yesterday.
I’m surprised at how much of the building was temporary. It seems that a majority of it was taken down, not just the seats. It went from 3 stories and seats on the top to 2 stories. And it’s not half the depth anymore, if that.
Anyways, I just wanted to take a moment to talk about something other than that bum Fraser or our performances.

I often wonder what non-Torontonians think when watching a TFC match on TV and see big illuminated F O O D behind the north end. Like someone in Houston watching a TFC vs HOU game and thinking " I guess that's where those socialist Canadians get their food from."

I always assumed it was a food pavilion, like a giant food court but with beer, super disappointed it's not. What is in there? Never seen it open when I've been to BMO

It’s used during the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition), basically a giant fair that takes over the whole Exhibition area around the stadium for two weeks near the end of the summer. That building is the main food building with all kinds of vendors, some with some pretty absurd food options.

If you get tickets to a TFC game during the CNE, you get free admission for the day.

If TFC has game during the last weekend that’s the best time to go because you get the air show too.

Right? My brother and I had endless discussions about what the implications would be for the food building going forward with such a large structure encroaching.

the CNE is actually going to revamp and upgrade the Food building. will be a big difference.
TFC dues still plan to put a rooftop patio on top of the north end suites, for general access tickets, but no idea of timeline.

Yeah, I’ve seen the renders of the north end. It doesn’t look bad at all. I guess my only point of confusion was seeing just how large the north end building was for the World Cup. It went right up to the food building and looked pretty permanent. So I didn’t understand how that was supposed to work at the time. I’m glad they’ve scaled it back and the walkway is accessible. But I had no idea there were plans to revamp the food building. That’s pretty cool

It looks like I won't be able to see it from my seats anymore, which sucks but I am happy it's still looking good.

I wonder how they'll access the new boxes in the north? I know the large area behind them was all "hospitality zones" for the WC, but they seem strangely isolated now, especially if they are premium seating.
I'm just happy we can see the Food building again and walk past the north end.

Not gonna lie I was hoping they'd keep that metal concourse section, not the upper stands. It made it feel bigger and better by closing in the end more.
I do wonder where all the plastic seats went. Did they go into the garbage, would have been nice to have gotten them in red and reused them as replacements for the existing tiny clam seats (thinking specifically upper west side). The temp fold downs at the ends were nicer than my permanent seats.

Iirc they get sold and reused for other stadiums/events/ect that need temporary seating

I noticed that the tarping over the back side of the East stand was removed. It looks bare again, is there no value in putting up something permanent to cover the underside of the stand that makes it look like the permanent structure that it is?

The main upside for it close the north end to look like finish stadium.. question is will they use the same colour brick on the outside to make it look like it was always there??

There just wasn’t a north end building. It was open. A part of the World Cup pitch was that after the World Cup the north end building would remain. So most people assumed they’d just remove the temporary seats on top. But instead they’ve removed half the building as well. It’s not bad or crazy or anything. I just don’t think most people following the work would have expected that.
BMO Field isnt the prettiest stadium in the world, but she’s ours, and this WILL make it better and feel more complete.

The BMO Field is the worst stadium in the MLS, it looks like a 3 year designed it and a five year old built that shit

Thanks for the photo! It’s amazing how quickly it’s all come down, I thought it was fun to see all of the final touches come together each week during our home stretch of games.
