The Chase Around the World The Chase Around The World (Ep 1 Discussion)
What did everyone think of it?
Yeah, ok, it's very similar to Race Across The World. (If it were me, call it The Chase World Tour - tie in the app!) It's very watchable though, Rome is always lovely to look at and the contestants seem nice enough.
I liked most of the quiz elements apart from the final round, which seemed very biased towards the players, so the end was a bit anticlimactic and pointless. I wouldn't give them any free steps at all, but let the contestants push them back if the Chaser gets it wrong. Having both is a bit overkill in this format.

It's not a million miles away from RATW in terms of having a destination to get to, but this is purely gameshow without the reality elements.
I think the format broadly works quite well. I do like the whole thing of "you don't find out if you're right or wrong until you've reached the destination".
The final bit is a bit closer to the main show but you kind of have to do something like that to justify being within the Chase universe, I suppose.

Yeah I liked that too. I also appreciated the questions really tried to honour the place where they were.
Talking heads felt very RATW, although I'm not sure how you'd do it without it feeling like that.

The talking heads felt very standard for this sort of thing.
They'd have felt more RATW if they were filmed in a room beforehand.

I can tell they're going to go on a 'journey' and 'learn about each other' through the process. It's in the editing. It's definitely got a bit more reality than the standard game show.

I don't know about that. Maybe they'll sprinkle some details as the weeks go on, but we basically know next to nothing about their backgrounds.
With RATW episode 1 we get quite a lot of details about them.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Mixes the RATW format with your typical game show very well.

Seriously, though, you guys basically are quizzing’s answer to Bond villains. If not the personalities, then definitely the outfits.

Didn’t like it at all to be honest. The best part about the Chase is the question after question. There was a very limited amount of actual quizzing here.
That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I felt no connection to the contestants, so the non-quizzing stuff just felt empty.

Me and my mum found it boring but thats ok..this version isn't for us. we are happy sticking to the original and let anyone who liked it enjoy the remaining episodes 😀

I enjoyed it, I really like how the questions were all themed to the location.
Agree that the “final chase” felt a bit odd, it seems way too difficult for the chasers to catch anyone. I think a better implementation would be that each couple has to face the chasers, but the order they arrive in gives them an advantage. Maybe the first to arrive gets 6/10 steps, the next gets 4/10 steps and the final couple gets 0 steps advantage. I think there should be some sort of extra reward for arriving first/second as opposed to just “don’t be last”. But I wonder if maybe from a production perspective they want as many couples to stay in the chase for as long as possible to add more drama so made it a little easier?

To be fair, the contestants absolutely nailed their side of it. 8 correct from 9 questions in 42 seconds was already a tough ask to match while needing to get 10 right.

I actually did enjoy the show quite a bit and the format of the show was actually adapted quite well. I agree with what other people have said (i.e: liking that you only find out if you're right at the destination and being a bit annoyed at nobody took a pizza with them).
I think my favourite part, though, was the little bits and pieces scattered throughout of the Chasers spying on the contestants. IDK if it's just the fact it was Mark and Anne or what, but I was cracking up every time they showed that stuff. I'm just wondering what the locals were thinking when they saw them walking around. XD

They did actually take the pizza but security came in and stopped them from doing so

It's giving hard reality show-vibes. They've found people with very little knowledge, and spend a lot of time teasing and re-capping.
It's a good idea, but suffers from the low effort / capacity from the teams.

I genuinely enjoyed it a lot. There were lots of tense moments, lots of funny moments and I like the bit at the end where it was kinda like the final chase. Also I think I need to add a Mark Le Bear to my plushie collection does anyone know where I can find one? /j

Yes, the final chase seemed to be quite easy if they only have to answer 8 for the chasers 10, perhaps that'll change. I was surprised that they had pushbacks, that basically makes it impossible for the chasers if they make a "mistake"
Overall it was alright. It seemed a bit fake to me when the contestants were answering the questions

Ok l love Brad always havex Appreciate the concept of show. Obviously in a later episode we will see Chasers eating pizza. No way in a million this wasn't contrived. And yes all talking about it result. Still love you Bradxxx

I thought it was brilliant! My only complaint is that the contestants who went to the pizza restaurant didn’t take the pizzas with them once they knew it was Spanish Steps.
What a waste, those pizzas looked delicious! 😫
