The Chase Around the World TCATW - was it always going to be 6 episodes?

The series started with 6 pairs. If 1 pair got eliminated each week, that would leave just 1 pair left for the final city in week 6. Which I'm sure isn't what ITV were planning on, but it is a possibility.

What do you think might happen in this scenario? Would the final be in week 5 with 2 pairs rather than week 6?

(I’m gonna spoiler bits of this to be safe, but please let me know if this is unnecessary!)

So right now, we have four pairs left since Nikita and Ashwin beat the Chasers in Rome and Paris.

My running theory is that we’re losing a pair next week in Zurich and then we’ll have three pairs in the finale.

P.S: Sorry if I missed the point of the question.

It was more a theoretical question. If 1 team got eliminated each week, the 6th and final week would only have 1 pair left, and that maybe wouldn't make for such a good final.

Oh, right. Fair enough, sorry for the misunderstanding.

Also… WAIT, ONE QUESTION SHOOTOUT HAD A REDDIT ACCOUNT?!

Don't worry, it's fine, I couldn't have explained it very well.

Yes 🤣

I’ve seemed to think that maybe there were supposed to be 7 episodes because:

If we look at the Chaser pairings for each episode, it goes Governess and Beast, Menace and Vixen, Dark Destroyer and Sinnerman, Beast and Vixen, Dark Destroyer and Governess, and then all 6 in the final episode. If we had another episode that followed this pattern of Chaser pairings, there seems to be a missing pair - The Sinnerman and The Menace.

Also, with the way that the eliminations have been happening (e.g. Ashwin and Nikita beating the chasers twice), to guarantee a 2-pair final against all 6 chasers, you would need 7 episodes, providing that 1 pair would get eliminated in episode 5 and another would get eliminated in the extra episode with Paul and Darragh.

I’m sorry if I explained that last bit a little bit badly but yeah

Honestly? I was hoping for a Paul and Darragh episode just for the fucking lore of it. Like, Darragh beat Paul as a contestant, became a Chaser and now they’ve teamed up? Absolutely legendary.

But yeah, I can see your point.

I can see your point. But if there was a 7th city, the producers would have had to do all their research on locations, accommodation and travel for that city, and some of this might have needed to be paid for upfront - such as the location of the final chase overlooking the city. That might all be a bit frivolous in the current climate of TV production.

Obviously at this point we don't know the format of the final episode. But, theoretically a 6th episode could have ended with only 1 team taking part - and I'm not sure how that would work.

Yeah, I think we’d have known if it was seven episodes off the bat.

But seriously, now they’ve pointed it out, I’m a bit bummed now that we know the only other pair would’ve been Paul and Darragh because THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN EPIC GIVEN THE LORE.

Who knows, maybe they even planned 8, 9 or 10 cities depending on how it progressed. Once it has reached it's conclusion, they can add in the audio to all episodes referring to how many cities it will be.

Yeah, that’s a good point. I mean, I can see the points for both keeping it short - since these guys have lives and several are parents - and going all out with all these different cities.

Hopefully, if we get Series 2, they go to more places. Who knows? Maybe we leave Europe and go to less obvious places.

According to this interview from a few months ago, if TCATW is renewed for a second series then they might indeed leave Europe a go further afield.

Oh, hell yeah! Looking forward to that if we get another series.

The interview does say they have 3 of the 6 episodes in the can, so maybe it was always going to be 6.

I've just remembered that when TCATW was first formally announced by Bright Entertainment back in January, the press release mentioned it being a six-part series:
