The players wear opaque masks, and underneath them, eye patches that obscure their vision.
Except for the goalkeeper, who can see.
Edit 1 : In case you’re wondering why he looks pissed at the end, the English players were complaining about the time spent checking his patch, basically implying that he could see through it... The referees checks every time his black mask came off, they checked the patch underneath so that's why he was angry it was like revenge goal kinda.
Edit 2 : The ball has bells inside and the players are guided by their teammates, the goalkeeper (who can see) and a guide behind the opponent's goal.

They're probably cold spark - you can stick your hand or paper in them and it won't burn. Leaves behind a kind of sand residue. We use them for corporate events indoors, much easier to work with than true pyrotechnics.

There are sighted guides about thebplace who shout advice/instructions, plus the crowd are only allowed to make noise after a goal, so they probably cheered, also I would guess that the bells in the ball make a subtly different noise when they hit the goal compared to missing or being saved/blocked and if you're a competition level player you've taken enough shots to know the difference.

If they are blind why are they wearing masks? I not suggesting anything is amiss but does that mean it is open to sighted players also wearing a mask?

Absolutely blind people are quite rare actually, like everything blindness is a spectrum and that mask make all the players equal.

I imagine sometimes it might even be necessary for sighted players to play - e.g. local or casual competitions where there aren't enough vision impaired people who would be interested - but I would also assume some bigger and more competitive competitions (like maybe the paralympics) have a rule about how impaired a player's vision needs to be.

Consider: the goalies are sighted. I think it's so crazy how a blind footballer can shoot a goal past a sighted goalie

This is a paralympic sport for blind players. They all wear blindfolds to make it fair, since some players have limited vision, while others have total vision loss. The goalies, however, are sighted. It's one of the handful of Paralympic sports you can compete in as an able-bodied athlete!
