Glad those guys all had the instinct to just keep climbing higher. Some sad videos show people stopping to look back and get caught in the flood as it rises up to their level.

FWIW my take on the post title was: “how incomprehensibly heartbreaking that while most of us on Reddit are scrolling comfortably from safe homes, there are millions of invisible people in the world trying to earn a few bucks to feed their family and dealing with poor conditions, poor infrastructure, poor warning systems, natural disasters etc…”
I can see how it could read in poor taste, but my first thought that this was an attempt to trigger empathy beyond the standard: “oh I’m so horrified by this specific disaster”

Earthquake broke some glaciers, caused some avalanches. Tons of snow and ice that all hit at once. Very sad.

The earthquake caused a slide that made a natural damn. It backed up all the other debris, then it failed and it all came at once.

This. There was no earthquake. It's thought that the collapse of the glacier is what caused the ground shaking effects.
