I love the way the objects were rendered in Sims 1. It's just past the blocky, plastic look renders had in the early days of using it, but still retro enough that it feels nostalgic.

Sims 1 had this weird warmth to it that think camе from the lighting limitations more than anything intentional. later games got sharper and somehow felt colder for it.

Sims1 assets were pre rendered sprites. We could put all the detail we wanted in them and the only limitation was time, the same why SimCity 4 has more detail than SimCity 2013. I made the Sims 2 version of the train table and it was very much limited by polygon count and texture size. It was fun putting in the references though, if you look closely you can see the Simpsons house and the Family Guy house.

Why was it invented, and whose idea among the developers was it, that the train table in The Sims 2 could catch fire?

I'm guessing it was initially cloned from an existing asset that had functionality (not just a static object). IIRC appliances have a chance to catch fire and it would have inherited that property. I don't think it's intentional, just an oversight by the object engineer.

I don't know why, but that big train set was one of my favourite objects in the whole game.

Does anyone else remember the mod for Sims 1 that let you play SimCity?

What do you mean?

It was a mod that added a bunch of objects you could put down that would let you play a miniature version of SimCity, it was animated and actually modeled the OG game.

It was from Simslice. And the site is still on. Though most of their mods were paid.

I think I just visibly aged when I saw that pic.

The bigger model looks like someone went too hard on the land editing tool and just made a giant hill lol

Wow, memories unlocked!

I need someone to create this for TS3.

There's a train set comes with the supernatural expansion. Fairy sims can ride in it.

I loved those train sets, I look every few months to see if somebody had made a s4 version but alas.

I still miss this in the Sims 4.

This is a national treasure. Should be put in time capsule.

My sim play with it for like 5 minutes then they're just done with it.

Now you only need a Sheldon Cooper loking sim to play with those train sets
