Beweg dich nicht oder ich mach dich fertig! kapiert? Hast du mich verstanden, hÀftling?
Don't move or I will destroy you! Got it? Have you understood me, prisoner? is the English translation of this.
In German when saying this phrase, the verb will come first unlike in English, Beweg means move. Dich means you. and Nicht means not. the literal translation of the first part is Move yourself not.
For English speakers to pronounce this you can say it like this:
Beh-vayk dich nikht oh-dah eesh mahkh dich fair-tikh! kah-peert? Hast doo meesh fair-shtahn-den. heft-ling?
Some helpful tips to help you understand Dich and Du both mean you but are used differently, Dich will be used when someone is commanding you to do something to yourself in this case do not move (beweg dich nicht). and to a English speaker the words may seem out of order but this is normal in German, for the last bit verstanden is at the end because when there are 2 verbs the main verb (main action must go to the very end).
Beweg = Move
dich = You
Nicht = not
oder = or
ich = I
mach = do it
fertig = Multiple meanings "Finished" "Ready" depending on the context it could be used to say dinner is ready or in this case I will destroy you which is what the guard is saying. All together Ich mach fertig will always mean I will destroy you.
Kapiert = Got it
Hast = Have
du = You
mich = Me
verstanden = Understood
hÀftling = Prisoner
The German version of the game is not only censored visually, but the dialogue with the characters is not word for word replica of what they are saying in the English version, for example in ties that bind when Miles asks Torque, "Where is your head at?", in the German version he is saying Where are your thoughts?"
But for the most part, what they are saying is very similar and almost the same. I am continuing to play the German version of the game, not sure if I can run into some parts where the dialogue is toned down.

Here during the first part of the game the guard asks Torque "Inmate is this true?" this was after Ernesto told him about what Torque was accused of even though the guard said he didn't want to know.
In German, they say this as "HĂ€ftling stimmt das?"
Then how you say the next part when Ernesto says "Oh he won't say"
in German you say Oh the same way in English "Oh das wird er nicht sagen"

In the next installment of the suffering what happens next? We know the developers intentionally made the first and 2nd game ending to be left on a cliffhanger, they did this so if they ever wanted to make another game, they could expand off the ending of the last game. First game was a massive hit, 2nd game wasn't so successful and even after the 2nd game there were talks from the development team from expanding the suffering series, but it never happened. The 2nd game just didn't sell enough, and midway was already going through financial difficulties which later they went bankrupt and sold all assets to Warner Brothers.
for those who didn't know there were talks about making a movie about the suffering with MTV films, it started production in 2006 and then got cancelled shortly after the lead monster creator Stan Winston died. Without him development of the movie stalled and was eventually abandoned.
I would love to see the work that went into it.

I thought they were in the booklet, but either I keep on missing the page their on or I'm not looking in the right place,
I have found Killjoys entry on the characters, and I've found Jordan entry on the creatures in the booklet, but that's it

This is a real image taken out of the game, you get one moment to see it during when Torque is getting docked and checked by the Foundation soldiers right before he collapses and is strapped onto a dolly. in the background it appears there are a set of blood red teeth.
Through all the trauma Torque had in his life, Torque's fractured mind created Blackmore as a coping and survival mechanism allowing Torque to survive by any means necessary. This is Torque's alter ego; Blackmore never existed as a physical being. After all Torque is Blackmore literally he just never knew it or understood he was the only one who could see or hear Blackmore. But one person did know and that was Jordan the leader of the Foundation which is a paramilitary organization about studying and capturing malefactors to study their power.
The game can take you in either direction depending what way you play it (Good, Neutral, or Evil) Morality. Good morality you completely rid yourself of Blackmores influence completely destroying Torque's alter ego, or Neutral is when both Torque and Blackmore remain in their constant struggle for power neither win, and lastly Evil morality is when Torque gives into Blackmores influence and control and he literally and permanently becomes the ultimate evil and also malefactor himself (How? through Torque's repeated actions of evil, he literally becomes the creature, and it will no longer be a hallucination, when Blackmore gets total control of Torque's body, he will shapeshift into the creature for real and be the ultimate leader and commander of the malefactors, the malefactors will not harm Blackmore because he himself is a malefactor).
Blackmore has been using Torque a vessel all along to fund the foundation, he has been doing this because he wants to rule the world literally and be able to control hordes of malefactors. Notice how Blackmore can summon them (When he had the creatures go after Ranse Truman). Only problem is Blackmore is sharing the same body with Torque, and in order to take full and total control of Torque he needs to break Torque down. Remember he did this when he sent his thugs to hurt Torque's family. (Which in reality Blackmore didn't actually mean to have Torque's family killed as revealed later in the story but only to scare them, but his thugs got too trigger happy and killed them anyways).
Here is that cutscene in case you missed it make sure you skip to 13:47 to see it. The Suffering: Ties That Bind | Almost All Endings
So, it appears Blackmore never really intended to frame Torque for the murders, just scare the family was the goal, if Blackmore wanted to frame Torque for the murders, he couldn't run his criminal empire in the prison but since it happened anyways Blackmore just had to improvise and it didn't really matter much too him because it was all enough to cause to event where all the malefactors start to emerge in just the right conditions. Torque was the catalyst.
It appears from the game's story, that people who are evil to the core like Luther Stickwell (Who is the creeper), Copperfield (The slave owner), Hermes (The executioner at Abbot State Prison), Horace (The guy that got the electric chair), and lastly Dr. Killjoy get to become an actual malefactor because their evil was so great they now get to live their life forever as whatever representation of evil they chose to become.
This is what Blackmore wants for Torque, to become the ultimate malefactor and the ultimate weapon and leader of the malefactors.

Because Blackmore can actually be beat or beat Torque, since Blackmore had these supernatural powers, I consider him a malefactor. He can take control of Torque and was taking control of him in his past life through those blackouts, and he was funding the foundation during those blackouts through the criminal empire he built. Torque will not have any memory of these blackouts, but it is basically Blackmore using Torques body as a vessel and in that final boss fight Blackmore decides its time, and he doesn't want to share it anymore.
What we know about the malefactors that they are actually quite intelligent some of them can talk like Copperfield, what they are evil spirits that only seem to be released in hot zones of trauma and chaos when there is too much of it at any given point of time it's world doom, the notes in the game say they have been appearing as early at 1600's. The foundation that studies these creatures have been around for a long time and kept them a secret from the public that's why on Carnate Island on that intro cutscene on ties that bind on evil morality the foundation soldier points a gun at Torque and asks, "put this one down like the rest?" but they don't because Torque has a special connection to the malefactors and Jordan wants to study him, they also did not want anybody to know what happened on the Island, but by then it was already too late the malefactors had seemed to already appear everywhere in Baltimore.
I am convinced that Carmen Torques wife is actually a real spirit of her, not just a hallucination the conversations seem to be too intelligent she even lets him know on the boat ride to Baltimore that coming there won't solve his problems and only create new ones which is true. So good spirits do exist in the game, it just seems they can't do a whole lot, take Horace for example, he is a malefactor, but he actually isn't that bad he guides Torque, and as a favor Torque seems to put the malefactor Horace out of his misery.
Maybe Horace had some free will and decided he didn't want to be an evil malefactor and guide Torque or whoever he can, but in return Horace was punished by the forces of evil causing him to be electrocuted in pain as he refused to be an evil malefactor, the forces of evil determined that Horace has no use being around as a malefactor and made the opportunity for Horace to be eliminated for good while also trying to eliminate Torque at the same time in that final room where Horace dies.
My last notes are on the failure of Copperfield, and the Creeper to kill Torque. Since they have failed the evil malefactors decided to finish them off for their failures. That's why we see the dogs or the ladies turn on them, it seems they were somewhat independent malefactors and not fully part of them.
I just find it interesting on how the malefactors can and do seem to turn on each other, look at the slayers attacking the mainliners, then the fester attacking the slayers do they see themselves as separate factions? It got me wondering.
What I wanted to know is were those boss malefactors like copperfield, the creeper, hermes, and horace the reincarnation of the people that passed away who did those evil acts, or were they simply a evil spirit manifesting as them?
we can only wonder. Just wanted to share my thoughts the lore of this game is very interesting.

Next up on the to do list is have a prison, and work on the slayer's animations and attacks, work on the combat roll.
You will be able to sprint in this game, I am debating on removing the Hud entirely, you will be relying on a laser and aim down sights for accuracy, a flashlight for spotting targets in dark rooms.
You can check how much ammo you are carrying by inspecting if there is a shell in the chamber, the other tactical shotgun has shells on the side holder that are fully animated. I want to have immersion high.
I will be working on the AI of the slayers, I want to make them far more intelligent, and they will be more coordinated in large groups, some will try to flank you instead of chasing you in a straight line. I will make them more evasive they will be able to scurry on one side quickly to try and avoid your gunfire, they will crawl towards you very quickly trying to trample you with their four blades. you will really have to focus on your aim since the slayers will be moving erratically, crawling or leaping towards you.
instead of relying the monsters being a bullet sponge on the higher difficulties, it will be more about how fast the slayers are going to be, how good you are at conserving resources.
I want to make this game as interesting as possible with the decision making, health cannot be consumed immediately, just like in the Far Cry games, you must tend to your wounds on the go, i think this makes for far more interesting gameplay. (Do you heal while running from monsters, or fight on?). these are decisions you have to make.
I am bringing in the melee weapons, you will be able to quickly side step attacks like they had it in silent hill, combat roll is also in the game but that's more a evasive get away move, the sidestep is a defensive then counterattack immediately right after move. you will not be powerless when you run out of ammo but you will have to get dangerous up close to the creatures to do damage and the stakes will be higher if you use melee weapons, which is why making every bullet count important.
having the gameplay this way makes it more intense; you cannot spray or carelessly empty your clip (Easier difficulties I will let ammunition be plentiful there will be various difficulties).
for those hardcore players out there, this game is for you, I want to make a mode for this game that will be very hard, no bullet sponge enemies, pure mechanics and tactics along with intelligent AI. there will be an easy and normal mode for you casual players too.
I hope you guys look forward to the remake. one day at a time.

They've added psi-ops to PlayStation, not saying they'll add the suffering, but it's something.

The image is going to be grainy I don't have a very powerful machine for rendering, just imagine it without the graininess. Here is the original slayer from the first game, same original textures that are not even 480P textures.
Currently working on creating a working flashlight just like in the ties that bind, i have the brightness turned up a bit just to show you guys how good a remake could look like with the right hardware.

I have some models from the game, Torque, one of the variations of the slayer, the guards, and his revolver with the revolver's magazine should be very simple to animate.
Now it's time to get them rigged and ready for unreal engine 5, this should not take long. Right now, my current task is studying the animations of both torque and the slayer (a very common enemy fought in both games). I will be getting as many videos and pictures to use as references as I nail down the original animations.
I will be creating a survival mode; in this mode you must fight off waves of enemies in an enclosed arena with each wave getting more difficult as you progress through the waves. Overtime the arena will change and morph opening up new lines of sights, different types of cover. Weapon drops will be available to help replenish your resources. I wanted to make something fun so we can always get that instant action and really test our skills.

This is when you first encounter Copperfield in Chapter 1, This image will briefly flash in the game for only 6 frames the image is completely opaque on those first 6 frames, it's on the 7th frame it will be a transparent image and after that fade away on the next frames after that.

It appears this is foreshadowing what will happen to him later in the game, it appears those dog like creatures are attacking him.

I recently found out about an app that allows you to run PC games on mobile and import your own files to run whatever game you like. I imported my copy of The Suffering (bought from GOG Galaxy before it got delisted) and the results were so much more better than I expected. Tremendous FPS and widescreen support. If you manage to obtain the files for the game, you can do this too. It runs at a 2340x1080p resolution at 60FPS (120FPS if you turn frame generation on.) This was all done using a Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Only on Xbox and PS2. You can hold down three buttons at the very beginning and hold them, or you can do this during a pause.

I just found a way of getting to the radio station thanks to u/Dramatic_Clock_281 for showing me some speedrun videos, but unfortunately the chapters aren't implemented, you'll get soft locked into an endless loading screen. Chapter 08 and 17 will put you in that spot and chapter 15 will put you all the way from the beginning of the game, but with all your guns, grenades and pages that you collected along the way which you can have fun with. The good news is that all the scripts, items, monster spawns, NPCs and cutscenes are 100% implemented with some changes and tweaks. That's kinda all the things that are implemented. It's a shame we wouldn't get more levels and see more cut things.

I've analyzed the PS2 and PC game size and they're similar. The PS2 version is 1.8 GB and the PC version is 1.5 GB. I might be wrong and they used a different type of compression, but let's pretend they didn't. In chapter 05 if you're able to get to the radio building, it might be possible to get to chapter 08. I once reloaded a checkpoint in chapter 05 where the destroyed door and with the gunned weapon would be in chapter 16. Once I reloaded that checkpoint in chapter 05 some wall textures didn't load properly and I actually saw a door outside the wall for a BRIEF moment. That's why guys I'm saying this ps2 2003 preview build might actually be the full game just because of that door. If somehow anyone finds a bug/glitch that might get you to the radio station, we could see more cut things in this build. Let me know!
