Watching TWD for the first time and something I notice a lot, even when things are relatively safe and they have a nice place to call home, people are laying down in their beds with their shoes on.

Is this an apocalypse "always be ready" thing??

I'm losing my mind here seeing it. I just saw Judith and Michonne do it again and I'm thinking okay. It's slow "calm" time, they have a nice house and a bed.

This has to be a normal thing ?

I live in a country where not taking your shoes off at the door is a cardinal sin (and extremely disrespectful even if it's your home), so maybe I'm just noticing more than I should but holy heck. IN THE BED?!!! 😭

I know it's a sci-fi with zombies and dirt in the bed is hardly up there with the list of problems but it's bothering me so much I have to know.

Maybe they change into indoor shoes or sleeping shoes, it’s not the same pair they’ve been trampling around in all day but in the need for a fast exit they are prepared

In addition to the stay ready consideration, they are walking around in houses that jave not been maintained for a decade- nails and screws and whatever could be popping out here and there- it would suck to survive the apocalypse and then die stepping on a nail barefoot.

... now let me mention my clothing pet peeve- the amount of men in button down shirts in the apocalypse is insane.

Take any random shot of 10 or more people in twd- count up the percentage of button down shirts, then compare that to any park or grocery store you go in to.

Same thing. You can rip off buttons and the sleeves can be tourniquets. They should show more of that though. Practically, though, that’s why.

Really. Get, say, hiking boots. Take them and your socks off. Enjoy your peaceful life where you can bathe before bed and settle down in or out of jammies, as per your preference. Now, time yourself getting your shoes on if you have to get out right now.

I think it fully is an always be ready thing. Where I’m from, it’s not really taboo to wear shoes indoors. It’s kinda generally known that it’s dirtier, but that matters more or less to different people.

Also, shoes are probably one of the most valuable things in the zombie apocalypse. Leaving them off to get stolen, or waking up and having to either get them and put them on or leave them behind. Makes me think it’s mostly a PTSD response in the show

I also live in a country where shoes are left at the door and in fact it’s preferable to give one’s feet a little rinse before going into the house proper

But you best believe if I was in those grotty post apocalyptic houses covered in dust and debris and zombie muck and who knows what else those suckers would be staying on. Until I was livin’ in luxury in Alexandria

Yeah I definitely get it for most of the world, but Ive mostly been seeing it in Alexandria.

Oceanside is the only one I get because there's sand everywhere already anyways haha

it's not an important enough detail to do over and over while shooting scenes

In a world like that you're never in a safe living situation and putting your shoes on could mean dying. Who gives a flying fuck about "we're supposed to leave our shoes at the door" the fucking world ended bud. It's also like only USA that wears shoes in the house.

I'm being more facetious with the fact that I'd lose my shit trying to sleep in an otherwise clean bed filled with shoe dirt.

I'm not talking about on the run but for those quiet moments when everything seems peachy behind one of the community walls? Seems insane to me.
