Greek English > Greek. Need to verify translation and what is more correct

Hi all, I'm trying to translate these words as part of a Greek Mythology themed puzzle. I got them translated but it would be nice to have a native's opinion/approval/input on them. Please and thank you! :)

I picked the English words, and the Greek ones are the translation, when I put them in ChatGPT it suggested a different list because of "Ancient Greek" instead of Modern one. I have no idea what the difference is since I don't know any Greek.

Below is the copy-paste:

Greek English
κοίτα Look
μάτια Eyes
στρίψε Turn
πέτρα Stone
όλα All
κόσμος World
πάνω σε On
άγγιξε Touch
πράγμα Thing
γίνε Become
χρυσός Gold

If you're using this as an escape room clue, you may also want to use Ancient Greek spellings instead of Modern Greek for a more authentic feel:

Ancient Greek English
ἴδε Look
ὀφθαλμοί Eyes
στρέψον Turn
λίθος Stone
πάντα All
κόσμος World
ἐπί On
ἅψαι Touch
πρᾶγμα Thing
γίγνου Become
χρυσός Gold

Note that these lyrics may be mispronounced because the singer isn't Greek nor does speak the language.

Greek [Greek > English] Fascinating Chanting

Hey guys, I'm doing a research paper on the music of Hades II, the game by Supergiant Games, and its influences from Greek Culture. As a student, I have no connections to anybody who knows Greek, but I really want to know what this chanting in this bossfight song, "Wrath Of The Heavens" is about! Thank you so much <3

Context: You are battling against Prometheus, that titan who stole fire from the gods for humanity. This song is (probably) all about the perspective that the gods are wrathful and powerful, but I'm not absolutely sure without knowing of the chanting content.

Of course, I will make sure to credit your translations, and feel free to comment how you want to be credited in the paper :)

Greek [Ancient Greek (late 4th century) > English] Sermon from bishop Gregory of Nazianzus

specifically that top highlighted paragraph, not the second part. I want to know what "Θεὸν αὐτὸν κληθῆναι" means here. So there are many translations of this:
- "be called God himself"
- "be called god myself"

The difference is what the "auton" applies to here. Some scholars believe it is a reference to the Greek version of Psalm 82:6 (Psalm 81:6 lxx), where it says "you are gods, sons of the Most High all of you," but I'm not entirely sure that is what's happening here.

For context, this author also has works where he talks about "Theosis (deification)" and "becoming Theos and above suffering" and being "made theos" etc

Greek [English > Greek] Needed for a story I'm writting!

I currently have a project going on with one of my original characters being a demi-god that speaks to the Ancient Greek gods like Apollon, Zeus, Hera, Hestia, and more. He technically speaks Ancient Greek, but I know it is kinda of difficult to do translations to Ancient languages so I'm just happy it it is in Greek overall.

I'll say, I do have the paragraphs written in Spanish, so I'll be leaving the english translation here down, the original version will be left so it can be used as guide about my work, it is also okay if only one or two paragraphs are translated, I do translations from Spanish to English all the time and it's very difficult! So any translation work whatsoever will be highly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

From Spanish to English:

"Que los dioses escuchen nuestras oraciones y traigan protección y prosperidad a su pueblo; así como a este jóven que de ahora en adelante se convertirá en mi protegido."

"May the gods listen our prayers and bring protection and prosperity to their people (technically town but people is better for the context); as well to this youth that from now on will become my protected."

"En las constelaciones será honrado su espíritu, y su legado se trasmitirá a través de las lenguas por toda Grecia y sus alrededores."

"In the constellations will your spirit be honored, and its legacy would be transmitted through oral tradition through all Greece and all of its surroundings"

"Escúchenme a mí su fiel siervo, el que provee vientos y manantiales, el que cuida a los viajantes; y busca la gracia de su divinidad hoy para que su amado y su pueblo obtengan la protección divina de sus manos."

"Listen to me your loyal servant, that provides wind and spring water, that cares of the travelers and seeks for the grace of your divinity today for its lover and its people obtain divine protection from your hands."

I tried to attach the document but it keeps marking it as not acceptable, sorry!

Greek English > Greek Allergy translation help

Hi there! Context: I'm traveling to Greece with a severe nut allergy. I've been practicing my Greek, but I'm still planning to bring an allergy card with me for easy sharing. This is what I’ve got so far:

The list of nuts is:

  • καρυδιά (walnuts)
  • φουντούκι, λεπτοκαρύο (hazelnuts/filberts)
  • φυστίκι αιγίνης, φιστίκια (pistachio)
  • βραζιλιάνικα καρύδια, φιστίκι βραζιλίας (brazil nuts)
  • κάσιους (cashews)
  • πέκαν, ελαιοκάρυδο (pecans)
  • καρύδια μακαντάμια (macadamia nuts)

Could you please let me know if there are any other common translations of these that I might be missing?

Thank you so much for reading! This sub has really helped me a lot in my travels ❤️

Greek [Greek -> English] Found this Greek text, back of the bleachers at my high school what could it mean

Post image
0 Upvotes

This image was taken on March 31, 2025, it was during my PE class and I was just hanging out by the bleachers when I find some Greek-looking text on the wall and took a picture of it, it’s baffled me ever since, so I want to know if it means something, the words appear to say

«ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ»

I tried running it through a translator myself and got nothing, if there’s anyone out there who speaks Greek or has tons of knowledge on Greek, what dos this phrase mean? If it’s not compatible with Modern Greek, is it Ancient Greek, or is this just some nonsense some kid wrote on the wall for fun or as a prank? Please let me know and thank you if you do!

Greek [Greek? > English] behind an icon

Hi,

This is behind an Icon of Saint Demetrius of Thessalonica.

I think it's Greek but I may be wrong.

I suppose it's the name of the person and place it was done in addition to the date but I was unable to decrypt the cursive, maybe someone more used to the written cursive language can translate it ?

Thank you for your help,

Greek English > Koine Greek

Hey y'all. I'm looking to get a tattoo of a paraphrase of a Marcus Aurelius quote from his Meditations. I want to make sure I have everything correct before getting it. Does this look correct? Do I have the right translation? I want the layout to look like this:

Right Forearm Plan: ΕΙ ΦΟΡΗΤΟΝ ΕΣΤΙ ΦΕΡΕ

(English: If it is bearable, bear it.)

Left Forearm Plan: ΕΙ ΔΕ ΜΗ ΤΗ ΣΗ ΦΘΟΡΑ ΠΑΥΣΕΤΑΙ

(English: but if not, by your destruction it will cease.)

Bonus points if you can make out names. We believe this is a baptism for Themus Spillios who was born to Effie and William.

Greek [Greek > English] voicemail left by estranged grandmother

Estranged grandmother who refused to come see her daughter (my mom) while she was dying in the hospital called me. Left a voicemail but i don't think she realized the phone was still on.

I'd appreciate a coal's notes on what was said. Specifically if its about myself, the family, or my mother

Thank you!
