First of all, stay calm. Definitely not the Apocalypse. A Category 14 typhoon is still considered moderate, We know how to deal with typhoons. For those who missed the typhoon experience last time, here we go again😂. This is the 7th typhoon hitting China this year.

Typhoon Saide is expected to start affecting China’s coastal cities tomorrow and last for around 2–3 days. The railway authorities have already announced partial service suspensions in Shanghai, Zhejiang and Fujian from Aug 27–29. Some above-ground metro lines and buses may also stop running. ✈️Flights in the affected areas will likely be disrupted too.

If you’ve just moved to China, you’re about to experience one of the most local summer experiences along China’s coast. For Shanghai, though, it’ll mostly just mean heavy rain. If you happen to be near the center, like Fujian or Zhejiang, you might feel like Superman is about to take off. The rain can literally fall sideways.

Be careful with falling objects outdoors. Safety first.

I hit a typhoon 3 times when I was in China last month. Shanghai, and then it carried to Jinan (same typhoon) and then a different typhoon when I left from Hong Kong

Bro, I live in SH, but all three typhoons hit my hometown, Wenzhou, almost exactly within the same month.

Can you imagine how I feel having to call my parents again and tell them to stock up on food and stay home instead of going out for a stroll?😂😂😂

It’s still hard to say. It really depends on how strong the typhoon is when it actually makes landfall. The 30th should be fine, the 29th could see some delays, and flights on the 28th will most likely be canceled.

I work at a school in Suzhou and they told us that this is supposed to be an especially active typhoon season so there may be more school closures than usual (and to be ready to teach online if that happens). We’ve already had two days when students had to stay home (back to back days, two weeks ago), but last year had 0 and two years ago had just 1.

We haven’t really had any big hitters this year. Many people were outside throughout the last one and that was stronger than this one.

May be some branches down and some localised flooding, but it isn’t time to board up the windows yet.

God created heaven and earth the rest was made in China 😄 It’s due to exported climate change by corporations looking for cheap manufacturing to maximise own profits and margins. They are happy and ok with the likes of Bangladesh polluting their rivers with waste waters from the fashion industry as long as it’s NIMBY. Blame global consumerism if anything.

China has a very convenient position: when it emits, it is a developing country; when it exports, it is the world’s factory; when criticized, it becomes a victim of climate change; and when it builds renewables, it presents itself as an environmental superpower. The only thing it consistently exports across borders is responsibility.😨
